I remember this article when it came out! It was insane that Motown chose not to release this is a single. They had a bevy of incredible remixes already for the European released it would have worked just as well in the US, she had just scored a number one dance hit and the club's wanted more from her, and the video actually did get premiered on Entertainment Tonight. I don't know if you remember that or not. But they played a clip of it and they interviewed Diana and RuPaul, it was probably about a minute and a half long. They referred to her as the Grand Diva of Pop! This was within a couple of days of her performing the song on David Letterman the night before the Super Bowl. Then, the next day, she performed at the Super Bowl! The song was so popular in the dance clubs is an import that it finally did chart in billboard on the dance chart reaching number 37 in April of 1996. And Motown wasn't even promoting it! You're right, it was heartbreaking for fans at the time, because it just seems like such an easy hit for her and people really loved it, even non die-hard fans. She also performed the song again on Letterman at the beginning of June. And of course, in April of 1996, she was RuPaul special guest on the pilot episode of the RuPaul show on VH1. And they finally played the video! Diana got really excited about that! Looking back, you really have to wonder why Motown didn't promote the woman that helped build the label. I mean, it's the least they could have done was to ensure that she could have at least landed on the Hot 100 for Pete's sake. As you know, love is all that matters got messed up because somehow Motown in Atlantic couldn't agree that it could be a single, meaning as a duet between Diana and Brandi. That was three years later. And that was another lost hit. Oh well, at least we got the great music that we did from her. As you can tell, I'm just as obsessed a fan as you are LOL! Thank you for devoting so much attention to Diana with your site. She certainly deserves it! I really hope wonderful Christmas time hits the billboard 200. I'm shocked and hasn't hit the chart yet! It's certainly got a lot of attention on iTunes and Amazon. Everybody say love!
