Here is how we get afford housing in the Upper Kittitas County. We get government out of the way. Lower developer fees or eliminate them. Require all low income people to pay a minimum of 5 percent of the house before financing with a low interest loan. Require that if a welfare case that pay at least 20 percent and they must have a job within three months of signing. To get affordable housing must be an American citizen to receive assistance.

Sounds like all the focus is on low/no income housing (which is important too), but does not address the shortage of affordable housing for working families. Communities can't afford to lose its productive workforce just because it's too expensive to live here. These people contribute to the local community and economy in many ways. I support the idea of subsidizing rents to landlords who will offer affordable housing to people who fall outside the extreme poverty level incomes that are eligible for government sponsored housing. This public/private partnership boost would stimulate economic growth and keep hard working citizens in our communities, while still being worthwhile and sustainable to landlords to keep rents affordable.
