Should concealed weapons be banned from state buildings?

"McAuliffe issued an executive order last year banning the open carry and concealed carry of guns in most state-owned office buildings, saying the move was necessary to prevent gun-related violence."

Have you folks in Maryland been having a rush of shootings in your public buildings? I hadn't heard anything of it on the news and you can bet your last dollar the media would have been all over it if there had been. If McC is like most Dhimmicrat pols, he'll speak up in a year or two about the lack of shootings in public buildings and claim credit.

joe coleman, its 97% "no" to 3% "yes" now (9/3). There was also a single undecided vote out of 1,054 total. Reckon that person has trouble making up their mind?

Banning law abiding Virginia citizens from carrying anywhere, including state buildings, does NOTHING to keep criminals from going wherever they want to with a gun!!

Someone really needs to tell me what warranted this "emergency" and why its ok for this governor to manipulate the Constitution he swore an oath to uphold and ignore the will of the people and the legislature, so that he can pay back Bloomberg for his financial support.

This is nothing but Gov. McSlushfund's petty, vindictive reaction to his own impotence to pass gun control schemes at the legislature. Just a big, fat middle finger to those of us who have thwarted his myopic agenda.

Citizens of virginia must ensure that we NEVER again elect a tyranical govenor like Mcauliffe. This carpetbagger clearly ignores the will of the people. He is following his New York leader michael bloomberg.

Aside from the fact that BANS almost never work, opposition to this proposal has been overwhelming, and the legislature agreed. It is purely executive over-reach that has put this *policy* (not law) in place.

Criminals do not obey laws that's why they are criminals, this law will only harm the lawbiding citizens

Basically what we're talking about is creating more "gun free zones". This is to spite the fact that they do nothing to deter anyone with nefarious intent but rather have served to emboldened the criminal. Recent history has proven this over and over again. To spite their relative rarity, gun free zones are a magnet to any twisted mind bent on achieving a high body count.
FBI statistics have proven the reduction of crime that is associated with armed citizens. Agents have stated that an armed citizen is one of law enforcements greatest assets. In a 2013 report, the CDC concluded that a victim armed with a gun fairs far better than a victim who defends themselves by any other means. Interpol has stated that allowing your citizens to carry guns is one of a nation's best defenses against terrorism.
Typically concealed carry permit holders that make the sobering decision to routinely carry will seek higher levels of training. Statistics indicate that in a crisis situation, the safe operation by concealed carry permit holders of firearms is at least on par with that of trained police.
So why then would any rational governing body seek to deprive these benefits at the steps of a state owned building. In other words, the public deserve to be as safe at the DMV as they are at Kroger.
It is just idiotic to expect people to have to disarm and re-arm themselves as they go about their daily tasks. In addition, guns left in cars are now outside of the custodial care of their owners and may be targets of thieves. I am telling you, anyone who would steal a gun is exactly who you don't want having a gun.
It's common sense, when it comes to public safety, reason must prevail over politics.

If you band guns, then only the bad guys will have them.
