I'm still digging into the family Bain however, my ancestry line states my ancestor was Alexander. I'm stuck on a key point in my research to tie me to either MacBean clan or Mackay/Sept clan Bain which is a marriage document in canada approx 1838 for parental information (which appears to be destroyed or not yet discovered). My ancestors left scotland with the Paisely township society in 1821 and settled in Canada and from there, about 60-70 years later, my ancestor changed the spelling of our last name due to business adventures in the states. Without the marriage cert of that ancestor though, I cannot claim either although I do find it fascinating Mackay clan accepts MacBean members, but MacBean does not accept Mackay members.

If there are any Bain members from Canada, please email me!

My Dad's mom's maiden name was Bane. Her dad, my great grandfather was John Bane. Supposedly he owned a considerable amount of land where Troy, Alabama is located today. My grandmother's name was Margaret Lee Bane. She married a man by the name of Hugh Turner. They divorced and she married my grandfather, William James Chappell. They resided in Selma, Alabama. My great grandfather, John Bane, is buried in Selma, Alabama. I have no idea who his parents were.
