Long time Annapolitan here, and friend of the Buckley's (sorry Gavin).... as sweet as you are, I'm sorry you are not Mayor material. I think the attention seeking behavior has reached its limits. Perhaps what you are seeking lies within you but holding public office will not fulfill that void. Focus on rekindling your marriage, and yes you can still be Prom King for Annapolis. But let's reserve public office for those that are dedicated to serve the public, not themselves and their needs. Time to grow up Gavin.

Serious? Gavin Buckley is an incredibly shady business owner in town. Talk to some former employees about bounced checks week after week, health code violations out the whazoo, sketchy partners who run out of the country etc. outside of that? Try picking up local slags at his bars who are wasted. Yeah I would love my mayor to be a regular at Tsunami. PLEASE. I don't trust this guy with my pad Thai and I don't trust him with my city.

Let's alleviate Naptowner's concerns: There is absolutely nothing in Buckley's past to disqualify him from serving as mayor, but much to recommend him. He has been a successful owner of multiple businesses in Annapolis since Mikey Pants was a young teen. Pantilededes' business experience? Exactly...zero. Buckley has been a tireless advocate for business development in Annapolis for well over a decade. This includes efforts on behalf of existing businesses *and* recognition that we need to do more - such as attracting younger businesses - to fill the empty storefronts that we have far too many of. Naptowner's view seems to demonstrate the decided lack of vision we have suffered from for too long.

I am voting for Mike. What a difference he has made in city hall. The government is at least responsible and has responsiveness on emails or phone calls. DNEP was a disaster and Jon Arason ran planning into the ground. I am so glad Josh Cohen is gone. And who would vote for "She La" driving around in her leased Mercedes asking for handouts from Alan Hyatt!! She has served us black people wrong.

Mr. Buckley has challenged the Historic Preservation Commission's authority to require him to apply for a permit to paint his building when the City Code clearly states that the HPC does not regulate paint. In early October, there will be a judicial review by Circuit Court to decide whether painting a building in the Historic District is an "alteration" as defined by the CIty Code: "exterior changes that would affect the historic, cultural or architectural significance of a designated site or structure. " Hardly "felony convictions or other injurious criminal activity".
Mr. Buckley operates a string of successful restaurants - his activities are hardly limited to "festivals and artistic rebellion" For those with short memories, he also led the fight to preserve several sites on West Street when many in the City were hell-bent on knocking them down.
From Inside Annaapolis (2004): "The parcel had five buildings facing West Street, all in various stages of decay. One of them was a crack house. Buckley has pictures of "works," drug paraphernalia.
Buckley got this notion of maybe retaining the buildings and making something out of them, maybe scaling back the garage a bit. He started lobbying to make it happen. Preservationists liked the idea. Neighbors leery of a multi-storied parking garage squatting on West Street signed on. The garage-unto-death crowd said no. Lines were drawn for yet one more of those nasty fights that have become so much a part of the fabric of this town.
"Then we started lobbying for it," Buckley recalls. "I went to the mayor (Dean Johnson) and told him, 'You have to take a gamble on people like us or you're going to have an empty West Street.'" He had signs and T-shirts done up that begged, "Save the West Street 5." And when one of the buildings was set afire, he persisted: "Save the West Street 4."
Alderman Louise Hammond of Ward One was one of those on Buckley's side. "This project will help maintain the scale and character of this section of the street and will also give us several retail businesses which serve the needs of local residents while screening the bulky parking garage." she says.
Unlike the heavy-lifting greybeards elsewhere on the street, this is a bunch of whippersnappers-Buckley is the oldest at 41. They bought the property from the city which scaled back the garage from about 500 to 270 spaces. And they wasted little time launching their project.
"Our thing has been getting people back on West Street," says Buckley. "A residential component in all of this has been vital to us." And the residential components already in place, those living in nearby neighborhoods, also have been vital. "We kept them informed all the way through the process," says Buckley. "We wouldn't be here without community support."
Some wondered-and this is only a couple of years ago-whether small retail with residential would work in that area.
"Two years ago, I had my doubts about the project," says Mike Miron, the city's economic development coordinator. "So did Lou Hyatt and Phil Dunn. Things have changed since then. There is more emphasis on residential uses, which makes Gavin's project work, and the demand for property on West Street from circle to circle has gone through the roof."

We all can vote for whomever we want but let's make some attempt to deal with facts, not unsubstantiated accusations.

To qualify to run for Mayor, you must be without debt or other financial obligations to the city, and without felony convictions or other injurious criminal activity. I believe the issue regarding the mural would prevent Mr. Buckley from qualifying. Also, the statement regarding attracting millennials to start businesses? What about doing something to nurture the existing businesses that are already here and operating? Is this the foundation for Mr. Buckley's platform? If so, it reveals much about the lack of experience and whimsy to solving real city problems. There is a difference in planning festivals and orchestrating artistic rebellion than running a city and its infrastructure. He will not get my vote.

Not sure I can support Pantelides. I am dumbfounded in his opposition to growth and economic development. Not sure how you can say he is "Moving Annapolis forward" when he is against virtually everything. Hyatt is probably too far in the developers corner, but there has to be a middle ground.

Regardless of a Capital polls or any other polls, eventually people will vote for a candidate that they believe will move Annapolis forward. Mayor Pantelides has actually done a lot for Annapolis. He was born here and has continually given to Annapolis a path forward. He loves his town and it's citizens! The Pantelides family are long time outstanding residents of Annapolis. I'm voting for Mayor Pantelides because he cares for Annapolis.
