My feelings on this situation-

I was born and raised in Chicago, and although I was taught to "always be nice", I wasn't taught manners. As a newlywed, I moved to Nashville and fell in love with the genteelness of the south. Manners and kindness were taught to children as a way of life, and bad behavior was always frowned upon. For a gentleman not to open a door for a woman, to not give up your seat, to not let someone get in line ahead of you with only a few items in a grocery cart or with a screaming child would be unheard of. And we don't honk our car horns! These are some of the things I taught my sons and am proud of them for. I tell friends I am a Yankee by birth, but a Southerner by choice. Glad you liked Nashville! Come on back sometime!

I am a 61 year old woman, born and living in Virginia. My family has a long and deep history here, which I love dearly, as it is full of wonderful characters who were civil and civilized people.

Their example and teachings stay with me: respect others, be kind, be helpful.

After many years in the work world, I am now employed by an organization that has a culture of manners and civility. How wonderful it is to serve this organization in my final work years!

I am saddened by the open personal attacks, the bullying and inconsideration in our society.

Thank you for the poll---it seems that many others feel this way...
