Just got a shiny new iPhone eight. What an incredible pain in the tail! Can’t charge while making a call. Can’t use the aux cord in the car. Just silly. Arrogance and I attention to customer needs like this means it is time to give Samsung a try.

Ditching the 3.5 jack was a uch a STUPID move on Apple’s part. I really regret trading in my Android for the iPhone 7. Can’t charge and use my headphones at same time. Don’t like wireless headphones. Dorky adapter is TOTALLY unApple. A complete kludge. Annoys me every day.

With the Iphone 5s ( my old iphone), I could charge my phone and use the headphones at the same time for video watching, music etc. I could also easily use the headphones for connecting to my PC laptop. However since upgrading to the 7plus, I can no longer charge while using headphones or connect headphones to my computer!!! This is the dumbest shh ever tbh. I would rather have efficiency than waterproofing as I spend more time charging and using my phone on dry land than I do underwater like a freakin mermaid. This change is thoroughly annoying to me.

Its just one more thing for me to lose! I need it for work (I teach fitness classes and we do not have bluetooth enabled equipment). Have left it in the jack too many times to mention. Also hate that I have to pull it out to charge my phone. I'm sure there's an adaptor available (at an additional price!) to solve that problem. Wouldn't have bought the Iphone 7 except that I need I-Tunes for work.

The reason why my entire family has not upgraded to the iPhone 7 is the lack of headphone jack. 6 iPhones require probably 12-18 adapters scattered around the house or Dad has to listen to kids music. Ugh

Now in June of 2017, I've bought 5 adapters. While I have one pair of Bluetooth headphones, for the gym only, everywhere else its a nuisance. I get into cars so often and can't use my phone. Not going to buy all new small stereos in my house for this, more adapters...
So yeah. Annoying

Taking away headphone jack, and having people carry an adapter to plug into phone to use the headphone jack, is really just plain dumb. I am honestly rethinking this phone. Disappointed that I switch from my android. Thinking I was going to finally get stream my music while in my car, but I cannot. The people that would buy your wireless headphones, would still make that purchase if the headphone jack was left on the phone. Everyday I'm annoyed by this...but life goes on.

My answer is actually three of these options. Wireless bluetooth earbuds when exercising. Lightning earbuds when laying in bed. Dongle to 3.5mm when using my over the ear headphones. An extra step to use the dongle but not really an inconvenience for me.

I don't find it any inconvienience as I rarely used the jack on my iPhone 6 as I have wireless headphones and that was prior to buying the iPhone 7. All I ever did was pick the fluff out of the jack which is now one less problem for me!

I hate it. I'm in a plane watching a movie and playing games for the next 6 hours. If battery dies out I'm hosed waiting for phone to charge. I don't like Bluetooth headsets. I can't use them on my laptop or with the plane sound system. Plus they require me to carry an extra adapter for charging.
There are plenty of waterproof solutions out there, clearly that is not the reason for this change. It is purely a move to save a few bucks on the iPhone build and to get a lot of bucks on the accessory sales
Yet another indication of Apple abandoning its core principles of usability.

I am very annoyed with the lack of the 3.5 jack. I did not really think a lot about it until I had already purchased my iPhone 7 last month. One thing in common with all the battery powered speakers on the market no matter the size... They sound like S... when the battery gets less than optimal. (This is probably why mine and most other's Jawbone devises got thrown in the trash a long time ago.) Come on Apple! Unless the technology improves drastically, I am forced to listen to my old iPod Nanno on the plane while my new iPhone is charging, because the new $200 headphones have a dead battery as well. Sure wish the Jobs era Apple that did the right things for the right reasons would would come back. Now it is appearent there biggest concern is all Wall Street & profit only. Guess I won't consider Apple when I replace my iPhone either.

James - Belkin offers an adapter that allows you to use audio and charge at the same time. I don't work for Belkin, just passing along information.
The problem is I drive a lot and use headphones to listen to the gps while charging my phone, since it kills the battery fast. Not having that jack is a huge inconvenience. I shouldn't have to buy an adapter to charge my phone and use headphones at the same time. Of course this was created to increase their wireless earpod sales.

You mentioned at least twice the main benefit to removing it was for water resistance, yet waterproof phones have been around for years at this point, the biggest of these being the Galaxy phones, and none of them had to remove it. Apple did this for Apple. They sell wireless headphones and adapters this way.

I still haven't seen a good solution for charging and using headsets at the same time. I frequently take long calls on the 7+ and losing this ability has been annoying. Wireless headphones quality is still not as good as wired and having another thing to charge with its own cord is not a solution either. Water resistance is helpful in a very rare situation. Not having a headphone jack is a frequent annoyance. Would rather the phone be optimized for the every day situation than freak toilet drop.

the problem is that NO BODY in the industry is talking about or doing anything about the negative health effect of proximity radiation from bluetooth, wi-fi, cellular, electric cars et al. In a few years we will start to recognize the negative affects on cell generation and health and then reverse course much in the way we tend to develop things without looking at the bigger picture first. Design needs to include the invisible as well.

I think that critisism on the minijack removal is unfair when Apple DID provide a free adapter!
Yes, it does add a miniscule amount of extra hassle, but come on!

I've had my 7+ for almost a month now and I don't mind not having a 3.5 headphone jack too much. Primarily because I mostly listen to music on my phone in my car and that streams over Bluetooth. The only time I've missed it is when I drive my girlfriends car which uses an auxiliary port and if I leave my adapter at home I'm stuck listening to the radio or to her music. Other than that I don't mind it so it's a minor inconvenience for me really.
