the idea often floated around of trading valuable players like tanev and hansen, which we have been patient enough to develop, is crazy. it can be very hard to negotiate value for equal value in this league, and the canucks record in this area is spotty - some home runs, and some strikeouts. also, unless they have a surplus of quality players at a position, which the canucks do not, why would they weaken a particular position where they are not overly strong, to try to strengthen another positionwhere they are weak. the often overlooked problem with trades of players or draft picks is that you are trading a known, strong player (like tanev or hansen), or a high draft pick, for another player who appears to be strong on another team, but who may, or may not, be strong for the canucks. it is always a big risk. it is better to keep the strong players that you have, in my opinion.
