I print out the family group photos we take from time to time & put copies in an album & give out copies to relatives. I used to print them for camera club competitions but I'm not so keen now - it's difficult to get them right without several goes & it becomes expensive. The printer's a bit long in the tooth as well. I may start doing what other club members do & have them professionally printed.

The arrival of inkjet printers which could produce high quality prints from both scanned negatives and digital files was a revelation for me, as I had never had space for a darkroom. However, my enthusiasm has been tempered somewhat recently as the price of the inks for my printer has more than doubled since I bought it.

I don’t agree with the last two comments. Epson XP 950 A3 printer costs around £200.00 got mine in a sale for £176,00. This printer produces excellent quality prints. 20 sheets Epson Glossy A3 paper £27. that at is about £1.35 a sheet. Use Extra size cartridges that cost a fraction more than standard ones and get nearly twice the printing from them. I suspect you will pay around £5 to £6 for an A3 print, I you print in any quantity over a period years I think you will find this method is cost effective.

I voted 'No, and I don’t want to ' because of the cost of a decent printer is only the start – also the paper, and the VERY expensive pigment inks. It's just not worth the money unless I wanted to print a lot of images. I have been impressed with the quality of prints from the Jessops online service (but I always wait for the offers), especially if I prepare the images carefully and SWITCH OFF the default automatic 'enhancement'. I have used the A3 calendar offers for the last 5 years, and ordered prints between 20x30cm and 50x75 cm. (Usual disclaimer – just a satisfied customer.)

A decent A3 printer is upwards of £600, without the cost of paper.
I can get a superb A3 print done commercially for just over a pound, so I can get a heck of a lot of prints done for the cost of buying a printer. Quite apart from the amount of space an A3 printer takes up.
