Is there still a market for dedicated fitness trackers like the Fitbit?

This is silly. If you take fitness seriously then you need a heart rate monitor. To get that feature from Apple will set you back $365. A Fitbit Charge 2 is only $150. It's no contest.

There's a place for both based on these factors. First large company health insurance plans encourage health trackers to lower employee premiums and they get these units out through recommended online shopping or large stores like Costco. I'm a convert from Fitbit to Apple Watch beacause I lost my first Fitbit and accidentally cracked my second one. My insurance plan also started syncing with Apple Health/Watch.

There's a market for small and inexpensive, and in time Apple will fill out their wearable range to include it. At some point their will be a $99 Apple Band with minimal display but good enough functionality (like an Apple-watch nano, although they won't call it that). Meanwhile, the proper Apple watch will be the vehicle for introducing new features and maintaining ASP.
We've seen this playbook before, and it works pretty well.

I'e got a Xiaomi Band, 35€, pulse rate, sleep analysis, notification for calendar, Email, WhatsApp, ...!

Wat should I buy an Apple Watch for?
8 hour battery? My band runs for two weeks with one charge.

Was an 150% Apple Fanboy, my level is now dropped to 80%!

I choose other. I also love traditional watches and would never wear the same Apple design watch like 50% of my colleagues do. Humans want to have differences in style and status symbols! I would love to see more traditional watches with simple smart features. For sports I do wear a special sports watch that also shows iPhone notifications and I like that feature. So I think there is still a market but mainstream is the Scrapple watch and the Galaxy crap ;)

    I agree with greg

There are people who already wear watches, and don't want to give up their existing watch to have to wear a smartwatch that needs to be charged every night. For those people, dedicated fitness trackers are perfect.
