Do you think people protected by a protective order should be allowed to carry handguns without a license?

    get a shotgun, you never had to have a permit for that. best protection anyways. stop messing with gun laws, its dangerous, someone could make a fake report to get a restraing order now go get there hand gun. very dumb.

    I don't think they should get a pass. They should still have a license. Maybe those in that situation can have theirs expedited. But all gun carriers should have a LTCH....in my opinion.

    They should have to apply for a gun permit like the rest of us. I have a permit just for that reason to protect myself and my kids. If this passes it would be a way to get around a background check to get a gun. So if I am a felon I would just file a protective order against someone just so I could get a gun. I hope this doesn't pass.

    Looks like a good idea. Might just add a little weight to those protective orders. A lot of people who the orders are against routinely ignore them and the police can usually do nothing after the fact. Maybe knowing they might get shot wold impede some nasty stuff.

    @Sarah
    How long have you had the protective order? Long enough to apply for a license and have that approved? If this is the reason you would be motivated to get a gun then a license maybe your head is in the wrong place.

    This excites me a great deal. I have an Ex whom I have a protective order against and he truly is crazy. He has seen me in traffic and pointed a gun at me thankfully the light turned green and I drove away quickly. The cops did nothing BC I had no proof and they couldn't find him. But this changes it all!
