I remember a quote about Sarah Palin from the New Yorker that I thought was very true.
"She is one of the popularr girls, but one of the mean girls.
She is seductive, but she is invented."
I dont think you all realize what this world would come to if obama got president. we need outstanding christains and political savy people in the white house and that is palin. come on obama is not that intelligent
I think both of them accomplished a great feat. In my opinion, Sarah Palin was more aggressive and indeed surged past most peoples' expectations - she remained confident and seemed to be creating good arguments. Joe Biden seemed to be more experienced with the matters, and was able to provide more solid, authentic arguments than Palin, but Biden is the one with the experience. Of course, from the polls, it is said that Biden was the better debater, but they both are very close in terms of percentages.
I can understand that it's important for people to feel like a candidate "speaks to them" or "like them", in the sense that they seem like a normal person in a position of power. Nothing wrong with that; worked for Abe Lincoln. My problem with Palin is that she seems to use this tactic to hide the fact that she doesn't have the facts of experience that are necessary to do her job effectively. It's true that plenty of politicians coast through their careers without having a great deal of expert knowledge on the issues that they attempt to control, but for my vote, I prefer someone who can at least demonstrate a passing knowledge, instead of tossing out witticisms and sound bytes to the masses. The presidency (and vice presidency) should not be based on "bread and circus" populist politics. Voting for someone because of their mannerisms is fine if they have experience and education to back it up in the arena where they must perform, but ignoring their shortcomings to blindly follow their sound bytes is simply dangerous. That's the kind of behavior our founding fathers feared when they hesitated to give all Americans (i.e. white males at the time) the vote. There was a strong movement among them to limit voting right to educated land holders. So please please don't prove that faction, the wealthy elitists, right. Do some research and read between the lines for your candidate.
If dodging questions and repeating memorized lines over and over again counts as a win then Palin won hands down.
the american taxpayer lost. we have no choice. vote democrat. president bush single handley ruined the republican party. a vote for mccain/palin is a vote for bush. sleep on that citizens.
I think Biden won.. by far! Palin kept on filling her answers with the usual "this great land" and other corny lines. And winking? Cmon it was obviously rehearsed. Those who think that she answers the questions were likely mesmerized by her charm!
Biden had substance, Palin had sound bites. She did well for a beauty contest, but not as a candidate for vice president of the most powerful nation on earth. Plus she has a very mixed record as mayor and governor. She was for the bridge to nowhere before she was for it, for example, and has sucked up a lot of pork for Alaska from the feds. Like McCain, she points to particular votes taken out of context. All senators compromise to get the best possible legislation.
The Idiocracy is almost complete when half of the nation's populace prefers a winking, smirking beauty pageant runner-up who's all opinion and no facts, and possesses the same sort of smug self-entitlement that they do.
I'm beginning to think that Republicans are not born in hospitals, but are pulled from the same dark glop as the Orks in Lord Of The Rings.
Palin definitely won. Other dude was boring.
Are you people blind or just ignorant? Do you realize that if something happens to the president that the VP then becomes president? Do you really think this "hockey mom" can handle being president of the greatest and most powerful nation in the world.
There's no doubt in my mind that Sarah was articulate but lets be realistic, the republican party stands for the wrong ideas. Their goal is to try and dissociate themselves from their colleagues to become more appealing to the American public. Why vote for a deceptive party that intends to follow in the paths of George Bush 90% of the time. John Mccain has the ultimate say in everything, so if Sarah makes any suggestions they have to go through him. If we haven't noticed were not very liked around the world, we owe trillions of dollars, the economy is down, and the middle east is loving it. Instead of killing us on the battlefield their killing us on the inside; our economy. All that money spent could have done wonders for the middle class of America. The distinction between a developing country and develop countries is the middle class, and a strong middle class is a strong country. Barrack Obama has not mislead the American people in his campaign, and stand by his own original slogan..........CHANGE!!!!!!!!!.please dont buy the republican strategy they use fear to instill power.
Its not that she didn't have the facts. Its that Biden made up and lied to just say something even if its false. We don't need lieing from these nazi democrats. I will not let my country fall to communism. This is ridiculous. Palin did a great job!
Poor Sarah, she kept talking about her past in Alaska, but admonished Joe Biden not to go to the past. She refused to answer questions that she didn't know the answer to and kept going back to her one achievement, some energy policy she instituted in Alaska. She and McCain have given themselves the labels of "mavericks" and no facts to support it. Joe Biden's knowledge and demeanor shows that Obama picked the right candidate. Sarah's folksy charm would only be effective if it was used in conjunction with knowledge and ability. Otherwise it is hallow.
I can't believe intelligent people felt Sarah Palin won. She did not answer any questions. I would not want the second highest position in this country held by Palin. I honestly can't believe she won as Governor. I held high standards for both individuals. Hillary Clinton is a woman and she was not afraid of the media. The only reason Sarah Palin won't talk to the media is because she will embarrass herself and the party.
She is either somewhat dim or deeply cynical, or both. My family are all Western, and tend toward a similar drawl. However, put on national television, they would be loath to say things like "darn it" or "doggone it" or "yer darn tootin." She is role playing, but to what audience? Totally disingenuous.
Any sincere person with such an accent and mannerisms would tend to tone them down for TV; unless they are trying to play some sort of caricature of a "middle american." Who does she think that she is fooling?
I believe that Joe Biden did excellent! he was all the time answering the questions like expected. Palin talk to much about Alaska in my opinion its like the deserted state of America not much to do there! Palin we need to know what are you going to do for the the entire nation not what you did for Alaska.

2: If you are asked a question, it is expected you attempt to make your answer somewhat VAGUELY resemble the question. Being completely off topic and not answering or even attempting to LOOK like you are trying is blatant rudeness and shows signs of thinking you are above the rules.

I cant believe people believe Sarah Palin won. She still used the same antics as before. She uses all these big words to run around the questions they ask her. Wake up people! This woman could be running our country! That scares me! Obama still has my vote.
Gov Palin did a great job and spoke right to the American people. Those who say she didn't answer the questions had made up their minds before the debate and are just parroting the DNC talking points.
She answered the questions, she spoke of reform and hope.
Palin was surprisingly good. But in an answer to one question she seemed to say she wanted to emulate Dick Cheney's 'strong VP' role. That will be a hard position to support, for her AND for McCain.

I want to know what she KNOWS about real policy issues and I want her to tell me those in explicit terms.
Just because you talk plain does not mean you are not smart. It means she wants EVERYONE to understand her. The middle class is the majority of this country. I think it was very smart of her to make sure they understand her point of view.
I was offended by her previous "joe six pack" comment. How many times could she say maverick? How could cnn critics be so nice about Palin's performance? She did not appear qualified and had no facts to back up any statements, which makes those statements OPINIONS. Biden had facts to back up everything he said, and he had facts to rebute most of what Palin said. Hands down victory to Biden.
She didn't answer most questions, but played the parrot regardless of questions, which she did quite naturally tonight. When I saw her on CBS mentioning Alaska bordering Russia as her foreign policy experience, I couldn't believe how such a person could become a governor of a state. Now I got it. She is quite good at delivering prepared presentation. However I doubt what she delivered tonight really sold "American people" and "hockey mom".
I don't want a plain-talker to become VP of the US. I want a smart person.
