My irises are coming up right in the middle of a temporary chicken fence so that's definitely my priority. I have to move that fence. I have two chicken coops on my little urban farm in northern Colorado and the small one isn't being used this year so I'm gonna convert it into a playhouse for my nieces when they come to visit. It's going to be soooo much fun.

Would die for a garden with every thing in the book growing, but we live In the Mohave desert, in a resort town, and the temperatures peaked at 124 º last year, and many days of 110º.
So the moral of this story, everything would fry from the sky, and our SUV factor hangs at around 11/extreme. Love ya, and your beautiful garden.

I enjoy the surprise blossoms of all of the bulbs I've planted over the years. The hyacinth have a heady scent, the tulips - if not consumed by the deer - brighten every spot, the daffodils and narcissus make me smile. The odder ones are simply intriguing. The jonquils and grape hyacinth are up and blooming---the harbingers of days to come.

It was hard to leave my Texas roots behind and move to Seattle in 1998. But I love spring in the PNW! We have tulip fields that put Holland to same. Acres and acres of daffodils and tulips in bloom for my family to frolic in and enjoy. I just wish I could attach a picture! The bulbs are ready to plant in the fall and this is the time of year to sit back and enjoy the beautiful blooms.

I now live in an apartment so I do not have a yard, only a balcony. Besides, I have never been good a planting or growing any plants or flowers. My mother was the best! I swear, she could breathe on a dead plant of mine and bring it back to life. I lost her in my early 20's so I have not had her around for her wisdom in gardening.

  • Melanie - 7 years ago

Daffodils and Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers. Both remind me of my Grandma. She and Grandpa had green thumbs like no others. They grew beautiful flowers, trees and their garden was wonderful. Such happy memories. :)
