Are airline dress codes appropriate?

My sister is a flight attendant. I've flown several times stand by "D3". The dress code is ridiculous. As an adult, I'm not allowed to wear jeans, even nice ones with heels. I must wear slacks or a dress. I have to wear a blouse, no tshirt etc. no perfume. I think it's over the top too strict. The ticket is NOT free, I'm still a paying passenger, yes at a reduced price, but then you're flying standby and can easily spend all day in the airport getting bumped off flights.

At this point..I am fed up with the 'anything goes' mentality. Let's get back to decency, respect..take some pride in ourselves. Besides..my grandmother always said.."Never leave the house without clean undies - you never know what might happen!" lol

I do not think it is appropriate for public dress on public transportation to be suggestive, slovenly, sleepwear or any other type of dress that would make others concerned for their health, safety and well being. I have been seated next to dreadlocked, smelly, people with filthy clothes and dirty necks and ears. I wonder how they could afford a plane ticket but not a bar of soap... And I have experienced scantily clad pre-teens seated near me whom were suggestively harassed by older males who should have known better. I can only wonder what illness makes people parade in public in their sleep pants, camisole tops and fuzzy slippers...Where is their self respect and common decency?

Let people a lone. When traveling should be able to dress the way they want. You spend big money on a vacation, leave them alone!!

Most institutions, public and private, have some form of dress code/policy. Even public schools have a policy. There are plenty of items students, male & female, are prohibited from wearing in schools. Restaurants have a policy: No shirt, No shoes, No service! When we patronize an establishment we are agreeing to that establishment's policies. If we don't know what they are it's our responsibility to become informed. If we don't like/agree with the policies we go somewhere else. The airlines dress codes are not only more than "fitting", I might go so far as to say they are too "loose" even for the revenue customer. However, they are neither discriminatory nor illegal. I realize there are cultural, religious, institutional, legal, and even statistical norms of dress. For the sartorially challenged: when you leave your house, dress with a modicum of pride and decorum. Or just stay home.

I'm old enough to remember when flying, everyone dressed up! Nowadays, it seems like anything goes!

A lot of people don't care what they look like and don't dress very nice. Go to Walmart, so yes dress codes are needed for companies protection.

Was always told not to wear nylon because the damage it does to the skin if fire ???? or crash!
    Makes sense to me!
