Don't rip on boulder folks coming this way - 7 years ago
The good people that got priced out of boulder are bringing some very cool things with them. Did you know that there is a world class recording studio here in town? In fact there have been a lot of cool business coming to town with one exception... Boomerang. That is run by a straight up racist homophobe right wing douche bag, he's the guy with the "Obama eats Dogs" bumper sticker.

It's an insult. It was originally concocted by elitist asshat Boulderites making fun of Longmont's culture of not being elite asshats.
The idiots who created the Longtucky distillery are Boulderites.
The people who think it's 'cute' moved here from Boulder.
F**k Boulder. Seriously. F**k that town and it's arrogant residents.
Especially f**k the 'poor' Boulderites that can't afford to live there anymore and are moving to Longmont, bringing their obnoxious superior attitudes with them.

While at one time it may have been derogatory, if you look at changing the perspective on it and use it a badge of honor, it becomes something completely different. Change is inevitable, and as Denver and Boulder grow and become increasingly unaffordable, so too will parts of Longmont. That being said, the best part of Longmont is that everyone I know or when I walk around town, people are smiling and very friendly. It's blue-collar, it's got it's roots. I don't think the best parts of this town will change. It is unfortunate that home prices are skyrocketing and investors are taking over, that is true. But I also see a lot of "flippers" sitting empty because the people here can't afford it. Maybe it will even out over time. Only time will tell.
But! As for now, I moved here from the Midwest years ago, and Longtucky has charm for me that escapes the pretentiousness of Boulder and Denver.
Cheers!

The penchant here in BoCo for disparaging labels doesn't seem very liberal. At all.

When I lived in Boulder in the '60s we called it Longtown but never knew why. Maybe because Main Street was so long and filled with restaurants. (restaurant row?) Never heard of longtucky and hate it.

I prefer the name methmont, or tortilla flats.

nobody affectionately calls this town Longtucky. It's a dig at the way this town used to be before all the young people moved to town. Every new transplant says "wow, I didn't realize this town is this cool. I thought it was a cow town with old conservative people.
Keep Longtucky as a way to keep people out of our town. We should do a cattle drive down Main St. just to scare away the pretentious douche bags that will make this town unaffordable.
