Tell me what project makes money right away!? This will set up our children and Children's children for a 100 years! You want clear energy we'll get with it ppl. Hate how ppl with no clue think they know anything!! And I'm the peace has two dams on it already ppl!! 2200 families being fed!! Yeah shut it down. Good call ppl how about ppl that have no idea about where you live or work come tell you what to do!! I can't even handle it and power to the oil sands yup so dirty you do realize the USA to the south does a million times more polluting that we could ever do!!! Alberta is a spec in the carbon contribution which is a joke also just another reason to tax us.

Bc hydro has been selling us a bill of goods.....a pack of "lies" We are still fossil fuel users, but we do not need to dam the peace river, and we should not support LNG or the tar sands. We have plenty of power, why is bc hydro paying small private dams NOT to produce? Alternatives need to be sourced and developed. Protect the environment but keep us in clean energy...it's possible.

BC Hydro has already done major damage dozing over indigenous gravesites at site-C for Liberals! I would heavily suggest they stop all evictions until they are given orders otherwise... They may now be in contempt of bcers morals and values as we were not even asked if this should happen or need it! Government works for us and its our hard earned money!
Many other dams need major repairs in BC so the workers will still have work

I would point out that at the time of this comment the percentages are almost exactly the election results, so they suggest an accurate result.

I would also ask those who are already predicting doom to the economy to explain how building this dam, from which the electricity will cost three times its best possible selling price, at a time when in California daytime rates are already negative because of the solar arrays already in place (and knowing how much desert there is down there suitable for more) and an obvious future for storage, is a viable and profitable enterprise?

The only person who got ahead of themselves was Christy and her lng pipe dreams. Steamrolling anything that got in her way to provide almost free power to supposed lng plants that she gave huge tax breaks to and they still arnt building any. Worst business deals ever to try an attract big gas, she has the adacity to claim those few jobs on the hole are worth 10 billion dollars. And skyrocketing hydro bills for the rest of us to pay for this white elephant,. Nice try. Stop it dead.

Go John Horgan and Andrew Weaver, I'm so happy with your actions. I love the Peace River Valley, thank you for helping us protect and preserve this sacred place !

The electric power generated from Site C is Not going to Vancouver. Most of the power is heading to the filty Alberta tar sands to keep Canadas largest contributor to greenhouse emissions humming along

Eileen Pedersen: And how do you expect NDP?Greens to provide you with cheaper Hydro etc? The NDP professed during the election that the BCL increased our cost of living by $1,000 per year. Watch how much your cost of living rises by when they introduce the increase in carbon taxes, roadway taxes. Overall you will not be better off, I suspect you will be worst off.

This kind of cheap opinion disguised as fact excuse for journalism is the reason The Vancouver Sun is dying the death it deserves. Thanks for the link. But seriously, you are still reading this rag?

    @Eileen Pedersen
Keep dreaming. You're already enjoying some of the lowest Hydro rates anywhere so it's likely irresponsible consumption that's draining your wallet. Hydro is a net importer of electricity, ask anyone who works for the transmission arm of the crown corp. Enjoy that imported, coal, nat gas or nuke produced juice to power your $40,000 Bolt.
Ahh, the mis-informed lefties...always misinformed and dreaming of freebies.

Eileen The massive wind mills now dotting the landscape are a huge visual pollution of their own not to mention the birds they kill and the noise pollution. If they are an employment initiative go and visit a battery of windmills ...no one on site, a few people in an office [maybe in Calgary] turning the windmills on and off as required. Far fewer jobs erecting the mills than employment at Site C but you and yours will continue to wish for green jobs in the future. To kill Site C now would be a waste of money both in shut down, contract buyouts and reclamation costs but Horgan and Weaver could kill all good jobs except government and union.

so tired of seeing in the last two days the huge increase in anti ndp propaganda being churned out by post media ( pretty much expected since they have ties to the oil and gas industry) but really, is it the job of a newspaper , to manufacture and slant the news and try to manipulate the readers? Clearly post media sees that as their primary job. We quit the Vancouver sun daily subscription after 25 years due to the incredible deterioration of their" journalism" (and I use that word loosely) Rare that we ever heard any reporting on the many scandals of the liberals and never any investigative journalism about Site C or the shoddy and extremely questionable way it was approved. Even the big money and BC liberal party donations had to be reported by the globe and mail and the New York times, which caused righly an investigation by elections BC and the RCMP . Shame on the Vancouver sun, they have fallen so far , not worth reading anymore

OF COURSE he can REQUEST that BC Hydro stop evictions and not sign new contracts for now!! I am so looking forward to lower Hydro bills and clean energy initiatives that are Needed and that employ people long term. GO John Horgan and Andrew Weaver.

We can all ask and advise Hydro that any further destruction of the Peace River Valley be stopped until the hearing recommends to government of that day what would be in the publics interest. In fact I urge everyone to do that and to do it in no uncertain terms. The fact that Mr. Horgan who stands a much better chance of being Premier than most of us finds it a good idea and necessary to point out to Hydro that they shouldn't be making things worse for ratepayers at this point is an indication that Ms. MacDonald and Hydro aren't paying attention to the world around them. Also indicative of why Hydro wants to build this white elephant.

  • Keith - 7 years ago

The job/wealth killing on a massive scale has begun and he hasn't even taken office yet. Horgan and Weaver the Arrogant Elitist are going to be poison for this province.

  • Antoinette Halberstadt - 7 years ago

As Premier-in-waiting , sure he can ASK Hydro to do these things. As Premier he could probably ORDER them. So, he is not getting ahead of himself.
