I am embarrassed to be of the "baby boomer" generation.

Our parents bought the family homes to live in, for life.

They provided their children a house and roof over their heads. It wasn't a get rich scheme to flip houses so that they could reap the profits at the expense of their children.

Canadians obviously no longer have any conscience ...the baby boomer generation, my generation, should be called the "it's all about me" generation.

In another 10 years all you baby boomers are going to be looking for someone to care for you in your old age.

    Who will look after you?

The caregivers, cleaners, servers and cooks will be forced away to find affordabke housing so that they can raise a family and have some semblence of a life.

It would serve us right if the younger generation just herded us all up and put us in "the home".

Foreign buyers with money to burn waltz in and buy their "residency" by purchasing the inflated home prices so that they can rent them for two years as air b & b's covering their costs; and, then they can show that they have been a resident for two years and qualify to obtain a Canadian passport.

Then they sell those houses. What a racket.

My adult children 30 to 50 have never owned their own home and pay ridiculous rents.

So many homes are being bought as "second recreationalhomes" and sit empty.

    It's just not fair.

Somewhere the "baby boomers missed the love message of the 60's and 70's and decided to be selfish and exploit not only the young but taking their deceased parents hard earned money and property and squandering that money in places other than Canada.

Yes...Canadian baby boomers should be embarrassed for the way they have sold out the country right out from under their own children and grandchildren.

The city and the province needs to do more. Vancouver could lead the way but the province must step in as this is a problem thru out B.C. Yes to Airbnb regulations not only on housing but the people who stay in the house contribute to the shortage and they too should be made to pay. I live in Osoyoos and see first hand the number of Airbnb's and I have approached town council who are unable with their lawyers to stop or control the problem. The province needs to address this situation, probably Justin on the federal level needs to be made aware of why his working constituents are living in UVic and other dorms for the summer.
I also feel that the 15% for foreign purchasing housing is not enough and I would like to know how many of them are being used as an Airbnb. Good on Vancouver for starting but not enough and too late.
