Should there be a minimum wage?

My first job I received $35 dollars a week, the government took out $5.00 for taxes, so take home pay was $30 bucks. That was considered good pay at that time and we got by okay, nothing fancy, just was able to the bills and maybe take in a movie on the weekend. I then got a job years later that paid $1.75 an hour for 40 hours, Fed and State took their bite and yet we had enough to pay the bills and a movie on weekends.
What I am saying that even on a little, one can save, one can be prudent and still enjoy living. Yes, some, depending on size of family or their expenses may have to have two jobs, even some three depending on the circumstance. We live now in a Society that really has failed to learn how to save, even on a small salary one can save, maybe pennies but pennies add up. Our Society has really taken to Instant gratification which is why debt is easy to get into. But with the new minimum wage now will anything change? Time will tell. One last comment, business just as employee(s) have expenses which they have to meet as well as take in enough to build up their business (reinvest) so it is not all profit, if profit is made.
Many businesses just get by as they depend on the economy. It is not all a bed of roses. This too must be kept in mind, business and employee work hand in hand, the trouble comes when either side gets too heavy. Minimum wage can break as well as make.

Hi Jeff, Government should not be dictating wages at all. The government does not invest in our businesses, nor do they take a risk in the financial results of our businesses. They already generate tax
revenue from double property taxes in Coconino County, and collect from business operations via excessive sales tax. Not to mention corporation and business license fees. The next step for the socialist-minded government operatives will be to dictate how much profit a business will be allowed generate. If a company makes to much profit, they will want to "spread the wealth" with the non-producers. We need to start a movement to completely remove government from our business operations, and their ability to control any aspect of our day-to-day business operations . The minimum wage should be eliminated first in order to let the free-market system function properly.
Thanks for your attention to this matter. Ed Raabe
