No on the age limit, a 2 term limit, no pension and NO lobbying jobs after serving, and having to abide by all the laws that they impose on the rest of us, including pre-employment and random drug testing, should take care of a lot problems.

I think there should be shorter term limits for everyone across the board. This way, screening of the individual is done with each new term, I would think this would cut the amount of lobbying/ favors that is done on a congressional level, and it would keep us from having to analyze age vs cognition as much. Everyone is different, my grandparents are in their 90's and they are just as sharp and with it as some 30 year olds I know... Thanks for all you do DML!

I believe there should definitely be term limits, but not age limits. There are some very competent people in their 80s and 90s, and there are some that have already become somewhat senile by their 50s. Therefore, I believe there should be some type of psych/IQ test required prior to being put on the ticket. I had to go through a type of IQ test, a psych test (MMPI) and a psych interview before I could get my job as a security officer! All I do is babysit a plant, I don't make major decisions that affect the entire country. Just saying.... We need to do a better job vetting our leaders.

Limits should be the same as the President.
    With both age and term.

I say yes but not just on the upper end. There should definitely be term limits for any and all public office positions. As far as old age goes at some point, maybe starting at 50, 55, there should have to be a full health screen, mental competency, etc. But I also feel as tho the minimum age to run for President should be lower. If there is someone out there who is in the late 30's or 40's that would be an excellent president why shouldn't they be able to run?? Why does always have to be some older person. I mean look at who was running this last go round, all around the 70 mark. It's great that our life expectancy had gotten longer that in was back in the early 1900's but I would like to see a somewhat younger person be president one day.

I say yes to age limits and term limits. Why do we have senators at 80 yrs old working for us? Do they have a health check requirement? If they become forgetful at 80 yrs old what do we do? I say if there is no age limit then we need a health requirement. Memory test etc.

I would say health should be a consideration, and age but also number of terms in office. Some Can't find their buttocks at 35, others at 50 or 70 or 80...

Anyone can get cancer or become sick so age has nothing to do with serving but they definitely need term limits.thinking they should ask to leave by a certain age..... but term limits would solve that problem.

    Term limit - Yes!

Two words - Strom Thurmond! He served until past his 100th birthday and at that time he held the record for his tenure. Another two words - term limits.

While I don't think old age is necessarily a deterrent to public service, there are many older people in Congress who should have left long ago - Nancy Pelosi for one. Of late she seems to be having memory issues.

At the other end of the spectrum is the age requirement for the presidency. I don't believe there is a 35-year-old on the planet who has enough life experience to hold the office. I think it should be changed to 50.

I take care of my parents who are in their 70's. they get confused a lot and their memory is going. If that's happening to the people that is supposed to represent us then we're screwed.

    Should be a TERM limit!

  • Joyce - 7 years ago

I think term limits first. Restrictions on how many times they can run again. Also to be subject to regular health care and not have so
    many recesses.

It's not supposed to be a lifetime job. Term limits need to be set, too.
