It's ABOUT TIME this is being brought to the attention of the school systems in Hampton Roads! There is a LOT of talent in the area that goes un-noticed by college recruiters because the schools have "club level' teams.

Yes for varsity lacrosse! We need to provide these dedicated athletes with the recognition and support they deserve!

Our area had so many kids we had to split the teams. Yes to varsity LAX!

I love the excuses...Kids are too busy, equipment costs, funding/accessibility to fields is unavailable. BS! Lacrosse is played on a football field for Pete sake! All you need is two goals placed in each end zone. Last time I checked every HS in the area had a football field. As far as equipment is concerned why couldn't a mandated fee be placed on each student athlete to cover cost??? It's not like lacrosse parents aren't used to paying club fees and select team tournament fees. My two sons have played for their high school club teams and one of the major road blocks our club experienced was the high school Athletic Director. One more sport would only increase his workload. Being raised to fall asleep on a baseball field he seemed unable or unwilling to embrace an uptempo sport that in all likelihood would take players away from the baseball diamond. Lord knows it has in other areas.

I'm over satisfied that this is finally happening and that so many people are voting yes, 4 years of waiting paid off

We need to find out who the 2% are the voted no and tax them triple. They are the simpletons that are slowing this whole process. They need to go back to their Barcalounger and think about Babe Ruth there instead of impairing the opportunities of our athletes.

This is just like teacher pay, if we ignore the theft and incongruity long enough, everyone well except it as normal. For shame.

Kids are to busy? What a great opportunity to learn the life skills necessary to become a productive adult by having to manage your time, prioritizing your responsibilities and learning to make sacrifices to achieve your (team) goals. Yes it's only a game but the game of life is not easy... our young adults can learn to succeed now rather than struggle later in life.

I have been waiting for 4 years for this to happen and finally people are coming together and realizing that this is a sport that is love by a ton of people

Yes it should be a varsity sport! I've payed lacrosse for six years and i can tell you first hand that it is way more fun than football and basketball. Like sam said, NO COLLEGES LOOK AT CLUB TEAMS TO RECRUIT!!! we need to become recognized so we can expand our college choices not only just to play in college but to get better education opportunities also!

YESSSS! Lacrosse should qualify as a varsity sport, high school lacrosse club athletes need/want college scouts to recongnize them and their athletic abilities. Making lacrosse a Varsity sport provides further opportunities for student athletes to commit. Saying that adding Lacrosse as a Varsity sport would overwhelm students and add more to their slates is ridiculous. Athletes are not only choosing to join the team but are commiting their time to the sport they love. No one should be allowed to speak for student athletes unless they are one and can relate to the issue at hand.

I think that not only lacrosse but other non school sponsored sports like crew should qualify as varsity sanctioned sports.

Adding another sport to the student's already busy schedule, that was and excuse used by the school board. My son played on the school club team, local travel team, took AP classes, attended both Engineering and Calculus at TCC for college credits. Yes he was busy, but Lacrosse was his outlet. This would provide an Athletic team option to students that may not find an interest football, basketball or other popular sport. Students who are perusing college know that they need to be more than just academic achievers, veracity level sports provides a measure of longevity and commitment on a college application.

Yes. The clubs sustain themselves today and the parents are active. York county also has 3 out of 4 schools with boys and girls lax. Funding should not be an issue with all the active clubs. Virginia is for Laxers!

  • john - 7 years ago

yes for girls and boys, my daughter plays for Jamestown and even though they won a championship last year no one recognized them. Lacrosse is growing nationally and with college teams expanding in Division 1 it is another opportunity for athletes to compete.

Yes for varsity Lacrosse! My son plays at a local Virginia Beach High School and this sport adds another awesome opportunity for our students.
