Do you support the way President Trump is handling the national anthem controversy?

He needs to shut up about it. Quit adding fuel to the fire in an effort to take the focus off his real failures.

In an 11-hour period beginning at 7:19 a.m. and ending at 6:46 p.m. Saturday, the President of the United States ripped off 18 -- yes, 18! -- tweets dealing with the dire situation in Puerto Rico following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria.

What's more remarkable than Donald Trump -- aka the commander in chief, aka the most most powerful person in the country -- tapping out 18 tweets on a single subject in less than 12 hours is the tone of those tweets: Negative, defensive and dark.

    I like President Trump.

He reminds me of one of our greatest presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, who was famous for "telling it like it is."

If you don't like what I am saying, then tough ti--y.

I like that in a man or woman. It shows true grit.

There should be a category in the poll for "not just NO but HELL NO". If you support racism or don't call it out when you see it, then you too are a racist! The kneeling is about the inequality in our society not about a song or a piece of cloth! I do appreciate Trump bringing attention to the cause even though inadvertent.

  • Don - 7 years ago

You know a president is in trouble when he has to insist he's up to the job.

But stung by a worsening post hurricane crisis in Puerto Rico, an escalating North Korea nuclear showdown, the humiliating failure to repeal Obamacare and the stunning defeat of his favored candidate in Alabama's Republican primary, that moment has arrived for Donald Trump.

I think to myself, this can't get any worse and does every day with every single tweet full of hatred, bigotry, lies, anger, and his consistent remarks that are degrading to women. Trump has destroyed our country and our place in the world. It will take years to come back.

Let's not forget our local and state politicians who stand with him (still). They all have the same values.

Rosa Parks was not protesting the bus.
Gandhi was not protesting the food.
Players are not protesting the anthem.

  • Steve - 7 years ago

We have serious issues in Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas from hurricanes and the President is spending his time on whether you stand or kneel for the national anthem. Where are his priorities? The President seems to think he is a moral authority but his actions have proven otherwise and he has no business bullying players or telling clubs to insist players stand. Next he will want us all to bow to him when we see him. His need for power has no ends. He has attacked our most basic rights: freedom of speech and freedom to protest, freedom of the press, the judicial system, our voting rights. Players who kneel during the anthem are protesting and not in any way any less patriotic than those who are standing. They are exercising their right to protest peacefully and should not be attacked by anyone, especially the President.

Trump is leading down the path to totalitarianism (not communism, but an authoritarian regimen). He demands adulation and takes credit for what he has not right to and lays blame when it is primarily on himself. He is shameless. Taking a knee, to act as a warning of inequality and injustice does the flag, the Constituion and the ideals we as a nation aspire to does more to respect this nation than blind obedience will ever do. Colin Kaepernick has us talking about a very real problem. Let's use our ideals to solve the problem the way we all know things should be. Golden Rule.

  • JD schroeder - 7 years ago

Christians being upset about others not reciting a pledge to an image. (10 Commandments). Funny......

  • Jeff price - 7 years ago

Blind obedience being forced is communism. This is america(at least where i am) and its my right as an american to kneel if i choose to do so. People need to stop and take a hard look at whats happening. Calling to fire someone for not saluting a flag or standing at attention for the national anthem? Wjats next imprison them? This nation is headed toward a communist nationquick fast.

Funny NASCAR disrespects to US flag way more by flying the traitor confederate battle flag along side it at every race. Where's the outrage at NASCAR?

  • Renee - 7 years ago

I really don't understand what the fuss is all about. frumpbutt cannot even put his hand over his heart while saying the Pledge, and you supporters have a problem with kneeling? What hypocrites you all are. Maybe he should just take away your rights to protest, health benefits, social security, medicaid/medicare, food, etc. Oh, and I hope none of you, or your children have a pre-existing condition. Which I think should include stupitity!

I would rather have the NFL kneeling, then out breaking windows of business, and beating/shooting up people. I don't like to watch any sport, yet I would watch football, over car racing any day. Why would any sane person want to watch a car going around a track, polluting the air, wasting fuel, and just making noise, anyways?

It's a shame so many Trump followers fall in lockstep behind him in his farcical rant against the NFL and some of its players. Trump is only doing this to stroke his own ego and possibly for vengeance against the NFL for refusing to kowtow to his demands when he was involved in the USFL. Trump played a large part in destroying it.

  • Steve - 7 years ago

The only reason that the flag and anthem are used at NFL games is because the federal government paid the NFL more than 7million dollars to ramp up recruiting. This was a business decision having nothing to do with patriotism.
I call for removing the flag and anthem so that the game takes back its place in this ritual. I agree with the players and am appalled that this clown of a president has the nerve to lie to use about his reasons for the attack on the players.

GOODBYE NFL ! I WILL NOT ATTEND OR WATCH ANY MORE NFL GAME"S. LOTS" OF OTHER THING"S TO DO THAN WATCH FOOTBALL ,,,,,,

  • Woke - 7 years ago

Hi White People (from another typically seen as a White Person), the players are not protesting the flag or the anthem. They are protesting the fact that black lives still don't matter the same as white lives matter in the country. That is the protest, well actually the anthem is also a super racist as well if you actually research the full lyrics and the history of Francis Scott Key, who lost in battle against Black soliders in the War of 1812. Those are both just facts, not alternative facts.
Want to become woke about why Jim Crow and slavery is still alive and well? Watch the documentary "The 13th". Learn about the American industrial prison complex.

White women, I want you to imagine your 14 year old son being shot by a police officer for wearing a hoodie. White men, I want you to imagine being shot for reaching to grab your proof of insurance out of your glove compartment in a routine traffic stop. Now both of you imagine that happening everyday. To every family you know. Over and over and over again.

That is what they are protesting.

Stop acting like this is the Hunger Games and President Snow is telling you history via Twitter.
Wake up White America. The only thing Trump knows really well is how to lie and con people. Period the end.

And if you believe this is about the flag or the anthem, then you are a racist. Plain and simple.

Feel free to troll comment yourselves to death, you'll not be answered.

  • Stand together for what you believe in - 7 years ago

Let's stand together against the NFL. Showing the military and Americans can come together against them. The NFL can stand together with their fellow millionaires against us. They are rich and can do anything they want even if it's wrong to millions. If millions of people are saying what the 200 nfl people are doing disrespectful, mean, rude or hateful actions then why do it? You become excatly what you're complaining against. Find another way. Don't promote what another idiot did because of what one idiot said. It's like a bunch of kids. We can't help which president got elected. Two bad choices, why do Americans settle for bad people to be are only choices. Why do we settle for a lot of things? Why don't we stand together and make real changes. We all agree on better equality, better health care, better education and better things for Americans. Let's tell the NFL how to use those 100's of millions of dollars and there celebrity status to make real changes. So let's watch the show, Adam ruins everything and get together to make changes.

You know, I think it's about time we to go back before 2009 when the NFL players didn't come on to the field to play until AFTER the Anthem. Personally I wouldn't kneel of sit but I respect the right of others to do so if they feel it necessary. Our service men and women have fought and died for our right to have freedom of speech amonst other freedoms of this great country. And BTW, I'd bet there isn't one person with an opinion on this subject that hasn't broken the rules of the U.S. Flag. I know I have. Look them up!

  • Liz Roberts - 7 years ago

President Trump should not have called the kneelers SOB's but I agree with him that disrespecting the flag and our National Anthem should not be allowed at our football games. It is offensive to all the people that love our country and the men and women who have defended our freedoms. We are tired of politics being spewed by people that have a platform (singers, dancers, comedians, stars, and now football and basketball) with a captive audience. I go to football games to see football and not to see ungrateful millionaires disrespect my country.

I will not watch any nfl team anymore. Until some respect for our country our flag and our President are shown.

  • Kathy - 7 years ago

The best way to disrespect the flag or the country is to disrespect the freedoms the flag represents. that's what Trump is doing. he is trying to stamp out free speech and peaceful protest. Wake up, folks, that's what dictators do!!!!! I am so proud of the Titans for standing up to this tin pot dictator by taking a knee. and to R Roberts, he's doing this to distract from the Russia investigation, which will prove he's a traitor to this country and is in Putin's pocket! this is the most distructive, ignorant, un_American president we've ever had. and all you folks still defending him, you are to blame for every rotten, stupid thing he does. hope you can live with it when he starts world war iIII!

  • John - 7 years ago

I think that it's very disrespectful to kneel or sit during our National Anthem. I use to watch football. I've been a Steeler's fan since the early 70's, but I'll never watch another football game. I served in the U. S. Army, and it was a honor, to be able to serve my country. Then, I see these football players kneeling or sitting on their sorry butts, along with the owners, during our National Anthem. You all are a disgrace.

  • Josh - 7 years ago

When I think of the National Anthem and our Flag, it makes me kind of emotional. I'm a wounded warrior veteran. I don't like the flag burning or kneeling to it. They are both the same to me. I think about all the bad and how we have came together more and standing together to make things better. This country is so great that you can go from nothing to being a millionaire regardless of race, gender or anything else. We are not perfect. We have been improving this country. And this is why many people want to come here. If you feel that it's so bad that you need to take the time to disrespect everything our nation is and will be then you have options. Leave, or quit football and fight your cause or wait until it's not the song and flag that represents the military fallen or alive, great citizens that have made improvements in America and shows we love and stand together in this great nation. The NFL won't allow football players to wear stickers for the police department or do other things that they wanted to demonstrate. They want to let them disrespect our flag, it's people, and our time to stand proud together. They can say what they want like little children who try to justify their childish actions.
There is a time and place for everything. We should be able to correct people. Would you go to one their families funerals and protest? Or a church during prayer? No, wrong place and time. What happens if someone interrupts a game to protest? Probably jail time. These football owners and players have got successful from living here. They make the money to make real differences. They have positions to make real changes. They are the number one sport in America and make millions. They do very little for this country. Hockey players least paid and do more for their communities. They could use the news or media. Before, during or after the game. They can do it on their own time with sponsors or working with politicians to make real differences. They have multiple big homes, cash to blow, they have enough money to buy ridiculous things. Plus they get all kinds of pampered gifts. While kids can't eat, schools are low, streets are horrible, drugs and crime is controlling people, slavery and women are treated the worst in the world ever, drugs are killing people, and we can go on. The NFL gets money from the government so they can stay rich and to help them. That government money could go to other places to help. The NFL and players think they can buy their way out of trouble and do anything they want. They don't understand the hard right over the easy wrong. Do most of them live with less because they care so much about making a difference? No. Could they spend more money and time to make a difference in this country? Yes. They want to get rich and don't care about everyone, the sacrifices or America. They throw very little money to help from the huge loads of money they have. It's advertising not really caring. Does anyone know how to fix our problems with equality, education, jobs,
Healthcare, internet, drug epidemic, and such. Well, then get people on your side and take your solutions to the right people to make your arguement. Use money and time. Kids, complain without solutions. Does anyone know all the good this country is doing or how hard it is? People should start standing up and making changes that are for the better. So, I hope the NFL gets boycotted and they apologize and realize this wasn't very professional or mature. Then take large sums of money and help America with the areas we need improving. Those players will stop playing if they don't get paid enough because they demand more. The Americans should demand more from them and boycott them to get more from them.

  • Don - 7 years ago

The majority of the country will start kneeling. Trump is raping our country (all the while destroying the GOP). More and more people will kneel to show they DO NOT stand for unchristian ways. Bigotry, hate crimes, and vulgar talk are his tactics. My ancestors would be appalled as I am. This country can only move forward again when we are no longer under the leadership of a Russian-loving traitor. He should go to jail. Russia is running the white house and its sick!

  • Chris Price - 7 years ago

Disrespect for the national anthem is so anti-American and for the Titans to disrespect Americans the way they showed us Sunday is why my PSLs are for sale and I will no longer attend a game nor watch an NFL game.

  • D House - 7 years ago

Politics and recreational entertainment should not mix. NFL should have ended this back when it started. Players should play football. That's what fans come to see. The more these guys talk in interviews about why they are personally protesting makes them look really easy to boycott. We haven't supported the NFL since the kneelin started. Being parents, we don't reward bad behavior, Blaming Trump doesn't help cover it either.

  • Nancy Couch - 7 years ago

It is a complete disregard for the Americans who have fought and died for our country to disrespect the American Flag. Very unfortunate that those who participated in not acknowledging and Respecting the American Flag think that disrespect will garner them more respect! Ignorance of history seems to be a running theme this summer and fall, All Americans should be angry at such cowardly displays of treason towards the symbol of our country and freedom. There is a time and place for making statements and expressing your freedom of speech and opinion, disrespecting the memory of our great nations Flag is not that time... those involved need to grow up and think before they act.

  • Eugene Greer - 7 years ago

I am veteran and I remember the last time in the 60's and 70's when we had this debate about the flag. The Supreme Court ruled that the flag and national anthem did not have any legal status. You can disrespect, burn it, urinate on it whatever without any consequences. We do not need to have this debate all over again. Standing, kneeling whatever is not something to worry about. What is in our hearts is what is appropriate. Titan will never have any impact on the service that I provided our nation and impact my service had on international politics.

  • jack Murphy - 7 years ago

to hell with the titans and the rest of the nfl I turned them off when that idiot started kneeling and will never attend or watch another game ther is better things to do on a Sunday afternoon

  • Jack Odom - 7 years ago

The words were JUST right!!! If they want to protest racial problems, do it somewhere else, NOT on the faces of all those 1000s that were killed defending the USA. They are disgracing what all those died for.

He is not handling the communication well at all. I and everyone I know agree if you are in the United States playing any sport and getting paid then you should be fined and fired. Mainly due to disrespect, everyone has a right to their freedom of speech and to peacefully speak their mind but never while in a sports arena. Do it on your own time.

  • Open Your Eyes - 7 years ago

Let's have a poll whether the recent african muslim shooting white folks in a church is being washed out? Is this not the opposite of what dylan roof did?
Is Obomber going to show up and sing amazing grace?

  • R L Roberts - 7 years ago

I cannot understand why he picked this fight with the NFL. What purpose does it serve? The football league and owners are all private entities and the president should not be telling them how to run their business. Is he just trying to stay in the headlines even if for something so ridiculous?

  • Martha Baerreis - 7 years ago

this is only and issue because the president is yammering and trying to distract the citizens from the Russian investigation.

Anyone who cannot see the bigotry and hatred coming from the mouth of our elected president is complicit - which means, if you don't get it, that anyone who does NOT stand up for "equality and justice for all" is as guilty as the president

  • Allie M. Bell - 7 years ago

If a knee in Freddy Gray's back upset you as much a knee on the ground, this would be over. - source unknown

  • Jason - 7 years ago

While the words used by the President may come out as rash, the fact is most people in America were brought up and told, anything other than standing and placing your hand over your heart is disrespectful. While I respect a persons right to free speech I think it's a shame that in order to make a point and bring awareness to a cause you have to do so in a manner that allot of people find very disrespectful.
