Cry baby liberal d-bags that are mad because they lost there coloring books and ate all there ice cream so they decided to start going after children books

  • D - 7 years ago

My wife is Asian. And she eats with chopsticks. If she is not offended by this why should anyone else! Why do these crazy people blame so much on racism when it has nothing to do with race. Go get a life and quit wasting our tax payers money. Our country is over 20 trillion dollars in debt!
It takes more talent to eat with "sticks" than it does with a fork and spoon! Dah!

    The poll speaks for itself.

I was born in 1991 and grew up reading all of Dr. Seuss's children's books. I have very fond memories curling up with my mother after picking one of his story books for my mom to read to me to end the day. His work spead love and togetherness. Times have changed a lot even within my 26 years of life and will continue to with every passing day. At the time he wrote his first book the image wasn't drawn out of hate or fear of difference but as a silly picture to accompany the story. As the mayor said Springfield and the world has so many real problems and attempting to dirty this great man's name by inferring he was racist is disrectful to his legacy. Even IF this was drawn with malisious intent you can't learn anything by erasing history and will possibly be doomed to make the same mistakes to relearn real life lessons. Instead of destroying this almost 100 year old mural why not put a new picture next to it from Herman met who or another ones of his storys of acceptance and equality with the dates to show the growth in his writing and the world over those years? As long as it wasn't wrong or ment to hurt people when created it just shows generations to come how far we have come and will encourage them to keep growing. Thank you for your time if you read this. God bless you, our city and the world. :)

Leave the mural alone! Why do three authors have the power to control what is displayed at the museum?
Stop this nonsense! When will it end?
    Who are these people?

  • Tracey A Putnam - 7 years ago

It seems that more and more people lack historical perspective. If you object to an image such as this one, use it as a teaching moment for your children, instead of depriving them (and the rest of us) of that history.

  • Susan - 7 years ago

All of these books were wonderful learning tools for my kids as they grew up! They were taught people different! Seems a lot of grown ups need to go back and read them again to get over their racist views!

Dr. Seuss was FAR more than a children's book writer. Perhaps, these unlearned troublemakers would like a history lesson from my Korean mother who lived through WWII and the Korean War, who the Chinese, Russians, and Japanese fought to control. "Dr. Seuss" taught in the USA Military via his cartoons.

Maybe the troublemakers by locating their ancestor history is easier, and they can GO BACK to their country of origin. Miss Yee, I grew up with chopsticks in my mouth, and am proud to say it. If you're so ashamed then GO BACK to China where you BLEND in, and live under their communist rule. (Even a fool is thought to be wise, when his mouth is shut.)

Facts matters and history is a delight. Cartoons are a form of learning for fun. Leave the imagination and truth of history in OUR nation ALONE! If it is so BAD . . . . THEN you are FREE to LEAVE! Take your chop"sticks" with you too. My friends ALWAYS wanted to know how to use them.

Boycott their dumbed down books. WHOEVER those three people are, like they or their twisted imaginations even matter. Leave the mural and STOP CAVING AMERICA. It's NOT racist!

Can't read a book on history? It's OK! Talk to my Korean mother! She LOVES her freedom and the USA!

She taught me pretty well... as you can probably tell.

This decision is incredibly stupid and likely violates the 1st Amendment. Disgusting display of political correctness run amok, and of the tyranny of the minority. That 1 or 2 people can destroy such a wonderful legacy by being "offended" is itself highly offensive to me, so I demand that the decision be reversed as it triggered me and I now require counselling and a safe space. Crap.

The 3 authors live in lily white Noho, they might want to live in an urban city where we see different people of colors and religions. The museum has made a very bad decision to remove the mural. These authors must think the world believes that their opinions are correct they are Not! Will not support the museum WHAT A MISTAKE DESTROY AN AWESOME WORK OF ART!

  • Kathleen Roos - 7 years ago

The museum's President is wrong in her decision to remove the mural. To think that Dr Seuss, in 1934, saw this kind of diversity on Mulberry St in Springfield makes him more enlightened than the 3 authors that want it removed.

  • Liz - 7 years ago

What is a museum? If we are going to hide what is no longer considered "politically correct" what purpose does the museum serve? Who decides what is politically correct? Who decided chop sticks are now considered racist? The mural is a Dr Seuss drawing in a Dr. Seuss museum - end of story. Let those trying to stir the pot find something more constructive to do with their time.

  • Barbara - 7 years ago

Totally ridiculous! Dr. Seuss was a true gentleman and loved children of all races. Come on people, get real. Maybe you need to take a look at your own life and what you have contributed to mankind before trying to start a war of the races.

  • Joe engineer - 7 years ago

During the 9 AM Ch 22 news they reported the results of the poll.
Did I see it wrong or did they reverse the results with the 94% as "Yes"?

When will enough be enough on Americans changing our life styles to please foreigners. This is AMERICA!! if you went to a foreign country and you didn't like what their life style was you would have two choices. ACCEPT OR LEAVE.

  • Shannen - 7 years ago

I think we all should threaten boycott the museum in light of this absurd decision. The three authors names were given in the article about Mayor Sarno's response.

  • Maria - 7 years ago

Do Chinese people NOT use chopsticks to eat? Funny, every respectful Asian restaurant that I frequent offers use of chopsticks! According to Google, use of chopsticks in Chinese food culture originated during the Shang Dynasty 16th - 11th century BC (Yes, BC ! ). The Dr Seuss controversy most certainly IS political correctness at its worst. The three authors obviously wanted to popularize their names and selfishly created this uproar to attain fame. The definition of a stereotype is "a preconceived notion, especially about a group of people." The mural depicting the Chinese man using chopsticks is most certainly NOT of a preconceived notion, therefore not a stereotype! It is a true representation of Chinese food culture. The Springfield Science Museum would be WRONG to remove this historic mural over an incorrect accusation from the three authors who do not know the definition of stereotype.

  • Susan - 7 years ago

I would like the names of these people who object to these pictures and find them racist...do they have nothing else to do with their time then to find what they think is wrong with society. They should better themselves and use their time to volunteer at soup kitchens, Veteran Hospitals, Senior Citizen homes...something....Go out and change the future...leave the past alone.

  • Carol - 7 years ago

Totally ridiculous to remove the mural. Why isn't the museum president seeing what a HUGE mistake that would be? Can't undo history, and there is nothing wrong with this mural anyway.

  • Cheybee - 7 years ago

So sad that the racist few get to win. What about the majority, and those who embrace and teach that human culture has their unique qualities. If everyone looked the same, spoke the same and were a mirror image of everyone else what a boring world we would reside in. Shame on the museum for removing a piece of history and culture. God rest Dr. Seuss, he must be rolling in his grave.

  • PeskySerpent - 7 years ago

I believe the museum is making a terrible decision in taking down this mural as i see absolutely nothing offensive about it. By the results of this pole the museum is catering to the 6% of idiots who are the real racists by way of finding and seeking out racism in everything that was never intended to be racist. The other 94% of us should be the ones offended by letting the 6% dictate what murals we have in our museum due to their extremist view points. LEAVE THE MURAL ALONE ALREADY!!!

  • BMonty - 7 years ago

So tired of this liberal nonsense! I was there for the opening of this museum and thought that at least there is one innocent, good thing in this world, Dr. Seuss! Now that is tainted as well. Does anyone know or want to protest outside the museum this weekend to save this beautiful mural?! I've had it! My children will never go to this museum again if it is removed! Spread the word and boycott this museum if they move forward with this nonsense!!

  • Nunya - 7 years ago

How completely, utterly ridiculous. Talk about the height of hypocrisy. People of different cultures and backgrounds have differences. Somehow it is simultaneously *awful* to say anything about such differences and to ignore such differences!
One particularly distinctive thing about some major Asian cultures compared to American culture is their eating utensils. How is the sentence in the book even close to objectionable as a simple declarative, non-judgmental statement of observing someone from that culture doing a normal, common thing from that culture?
    Simply mind-boggling.

I *guarantee* you that I am far more offended by the library's response to take down the mural than the original complainants ever were by the mural itself.

  • David Burt - 7 years ago

Folks who work at the museum ought to be able to defend their benefactor, not create controversy. Shame on them, they take a paycheck and can't refute these allegations.

Find someone who loves Dr. Suess and his work, then and only then will the public and the museum be served!

  • Charlie - 7 years ago

How many little children go thru the GWVS art museum and see all those naked men and women standing there fully exposed? Isn't that public indecency and a crime against minors? Chinese people eat with chopsticks in their restaurants for all to see every day. Is that racist? I want the museum staff to put aprons on their nude statues immediately before my little girl is ruined for life.

  • Caroline - 7 years ago

So perhaps the word needs to go out to the Springfield Museum Board of Directors that those of us who donate annually to the museum will stop our generous donations until the Dr Seuss mural is left alone . This is beyond ridiculousness. No Dr Seuss No financial donations. Pass the word. To those 3 so called "authors" get a grip!

  • marilyn hearn - 7 years ago

Ia'm 66 yrs. old and I grew up in Spfld. As a child I adored Dr. Seuss, and BELIEVE IT OR NOT! I understood that people come in all shapes colors and sizes. GO FIGURE!!!!!! I1ts high time these KOOKS STOP MESSING WITH OUR HISTORY. GIVE IT UP ALLREADY!!!!! Marilyn Hearn

  • Judith - 7 years ago

I am appalled that the museum would even consider removing this mural depicting Dr. Seuss' work. I am certain there is/was no racial intent involving this mural. I feel strongly that the ultra liberal "authors" have some sort of ulterior motive and the administration at the museum should be ashamed of their action in response to their bullying. Leave that mural up - please!

  • Dawn - 7 years ago

Like earlier commenters, I too grew up on Dr. Seuss and loved sharing his stories with my biracial Asian American children. I also believe that when we know better, we do better. And we should all know that culturally insensitive, inaccurate stereotypical images are hurtful and do nothing to bring us together.

Surely the museum is not including every single illustration Dr. Seuss created. Someone had to look through the body of his work and make choices regarding what should be included and what should perhaps not be included. Is it really so much to ask that more care and thought be put into those choices so as to not include images that promote racial stereotypes? Would that have hurt anyone? The museum could have averted this controversy at any point by choosing a different illustration for it's centerpiece mural, or it could have acknowledged the criticism of the authors and began a dialog about the image. It did neither.

Finally, I'd like to ask everyone that believes this is okay, would you feel the same if the image was instead of a culturally insensitive and incorrect stereotype of a black man or woman? Black face for example? I certainly hope not because this would be offensive. And if you believe that this would be wrong, then why is it okay to portray Asians in this stereotypical way?

  • Chuck - 7 years ago

I am sick and tired of the of the left and their and their agenda that adjusts to suit their needs. If you don't like Dr. Seuss, SHUT UP and learn to read something else. Millions of us do and will continue to support Dr. Seuss. Now Harvey Weinstein the serial pervert that was allowed to be a predator of 30 plus years. Well he is a liberal so he is OK. That is DISGUSTING.

  • Mark - 7 years ago

These malcontents will continue until there is nothing left to learn from . To ignore history is to repeat it .

  • Maggie C. - 7 years ago

Political correctness run amok! Perhaps the date this book was written should be made public! Please leave the mural up!!

  • william mcarthy - 7 years ago

isnt preserving history what museum do. they are not about current things. it is totally absurd to say it contains racist shade.the book is for children that innocent minds. as far as i know the chinaman may still eat with sticks.

  • Mary B - 7 years ago

This is our history. Right or wrong. Our culture has changed in 2017. We need to learn from our history, not erase it!! I don't think this mural should be taken down.

  • peggy bernard - 7 years ago

Ridiculous! This is a beautiful mural. What a shame.

  • Mike - 7 years ago

It is unbelievable that people cannot understand that perspectives and social norms were very different 80 years ago. It is very dangerous to try and change history and allowing a very small minority to dictate the actions of all. I am very disappointed that the museum is considering folding to this very limited point of view.

  • Pat - 7 years ago

I am so sick of all this craziness about Dr. Seuss. If he did not include this character that they are complaining about he would have been accused of reverse racism.

  • Tom Corliss - 7 years ago

3 "Authors" ? I'd think if these literary geniuses are so proud of their opinions, they'd Want to be known & recognized. Perhaps it's time to make the N words in work by Mark Twain more politically correct. There's a machine in Seattle's Museum of History & Industry known as the "Iron Chink" because it would replace the underpaid Chines workers in Alaska canneries. If places like MOHAI didn't display such controversially named implements in American history, we'd all be less likely to learn the plight of hard working Americans (like Chinese immigrants) who sacrifice so much to make our country a better place for everyone.

  • Elaine C - 7 years ago

Dr. Seuss did not discriminate-read his books AGAIN from a child's perspective.

  • Joyce Wilson - 7 years ago

I am appalled and ashamed to be a resident of this city. We should have stayed in Maine I would love to be able to get a huge crowd to picket the museum. Also, I think we have a right to know who the three authors are who instigated this action.

  • Linda Cz - 7 years ago

The communists tried to erase people's history, such as statues also, that is
what they do. Who the heck are these people that want to erase our history
any way. I believe they are elitists, with nothing better to do, than be petty
idiots, they want to enslave the American people, and except their way of thinking.
Not so fast, we are a free people with our own ideas. Always remember where
you came from and the history of these United States of America.

LEAVE DR. SEUSS AND THE CHILDREN ALONE.
Make your self useful and do some charity work.

  • Korinthian - 7 years ago

So a dung portrait of the Madonna is museum worthy but a 80 year old illustration from a beloved children's book is not ..... I have no words to properly describe my dismay at these Authors ... people who should be fighting to save the integrity of such works not advocating what equates to censorship!

  • marcia albano - 7 years ago

What an insult to Dr Seuss...shame on us!!!

  • Barbara Wells - 7 years ago

Tell y'all what....I'll come and do readings for the kids at the time these nimrods were supposed to appear!!!! I just can’t do LUNACY anymore!!!!????????????????

  • Marissa - 7 years ago

Have people forgotten how to have discussions about art!? Especially when Seuss has/had such an important part in Springfield's history. I'm sure most people my age grew up reading his books and loving the colorful images. If it's such a controversial mural, then an educational institution, the Springfield Museum, should use this as a teaching tool and conversation-starter. This shouldn't just be taken down because the museum is listening to those who dislike the mural, if that was the case most of our art museums would be barren with everyone's individual opinions. There are bigger issues in the world...

  • Kim - 7 years ago

Are we really doing this???? This is pathetic! I grew up reading his books, my kids read his books. There's no hint of any kind of racism or disrespect to any culture. This is totally ridiculous and unacceptable!

  • Susan Shea - 7 years ago

This is just so terrible - three authors think they can bully their views on others! Really- how far is ‘politically correct’ going to go? This piece was done 80 years ago - STOP this nonsense...

  • Sheila Worden - 7 years ago

Come on people...Dr. Seuss??? He's an icon for children's books. My kids grew up on him and we still have my oldest son's Horton packed away with our memorabilia. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS....if you start with this then you will all regret it at some point. Tell these people to put on their big girl pants and find something to really complain about - like maybe climate change????

  • Mary Chabot - 7 years ago

This is ridiculous!!! The world is made up of all kinds of people. Dr Seuss was a genius & many, many generations of children grew up learning to read with his books & characters. Shame on Springfield!!!

  • Meg - 7 years ago

Hear, hear, Cindy C.! There is no good reason to cave to a bunch of rabble rousing liberals who see racism in everything! Nothing is racist about Seuss' works - he demonstrated that people come in all shapes, sizes and colors long before it was PC to do so. My younger sibs, nephews and my kids grew up on Dr. Suess and I cannot count a racist among us! This kind of behavior is disrespectful not only to the author but to people in general. Please leave the mural be!

  • cindy costanza - 7 years ago

MY DAUGHTER GREW UP READING DR. SEUSS AND NEVER QUESTIONED WHY THAT CHARACTER LOOKED DIFFERENT. SHE UNDERSTOOD PEOPLE ARE MADE IN MANY SHAPES, SIZES AND COLORS. IF NOTHING WAS WRONG THEN , WHY IS IT WRONG NOW. LEAVE THE MURAL ALONE. PLEASE DONT DISREPECT DR. SEUSS.
