Spread out the holidays to minimize overcrowding and provide more tourism opportunities for both BC and AB over two weeks. The economic impact and tourism flow would hit resort towns hard. Having two sold out / crowded weekends for towns vs 1 insanely overcrowded, overstressed weekend is a no brainer where economics, social impacts and safety is concerned. Keep the weekends separate, similar to having March Breaks staggered.

Would be great to have it the same day all across Canada and recognized as a national stat so that our federal employees (ie first responders) could also enjoy a 'family day' As the day is now it is simply an extra day off for the kids from school and an opportunity to have extra traffic on a normally slow day for winter sport venues. Most businesses are still open and staff has to work - not much of a 'family day'! At least if it is the same day as other provinces you can also plan a 'family vacation' - these days many don't live in the same province as the rest of their family - this would make planning easier. And many assume that the majority of us crowd to the winter resorts and rec areas when many take the day for a chance to visit other areas of the province, go to art galleries or take in a show - even stay home and make memories cooking and crafting. This should not be all about the winter resorts - this should be what is good for the province and it's residents as a whole.

Speaking as someone who lives in a resort town located on a very dangerous part of the Trans-Canada highway, between Calgary and the Okanagan, I feel it would be best for all if we did not double the traffic on the highway on one weekend in February.

I agree with Jim. it's great to have a day when it's "just us" on the slopes.

By changing our BC family day holiday to the same weekend as Alberta and the U.S. Presidents Day we will add even more pressure and overcrowding to our recreation areas and resorts ... this is particularly true for interior residents and those living in resort communties. Resort operators and the economy in the communities in which they are situated benifit from having the holidays on different weekends. Leave things the way they are now.
