Daily Poll: Do you agree with the NEB's controversial approval of Kinder Morgan's request to bypass Burnaby laws to build a pipeline?

First of all , I would like to say that in my opinion the current federal government Does not want Alberta to sell to much oil because that wealth would cause the balance of power to shift from Quebec and Ontario to the west, and second of all , powerful people like Paul Martin who’s Quebec company owns oil tankers and is making Billions by shipping oil by tanker into Atlantic Canada and Quebec ports. Of course these people don’t want an energy east pipeline transporting oil east. Think about that for a moment !

  • Bruce Halliday - 6 years ago

If we want to talk about sustainability, let's talk about our governments going into debt to (partially) meet unfulfilled needs and wants of our citizens. The Energy East pipeline proposal was a huge infrastructure project with no funds or risk by any government which, at $55 CAD a barrel would have created a $50 Million per day revenue stream. Lots of taxes would have been shaved off from that. However activists and Quebec politicians cheered when it was withdrawn.

We dithered until the prospects disappeared for liquified natural gas exports from the west coast.

Canada has much potential but so does Argentina. Argentina screwed up its chances. We can as well Let's not

During the 2015 campaign Mr. Trudeau said (at least in Western Canada) on oil production, "No country would leave a resource like that in the ground" Perhaps he meant no other country would leave it in the ground.

If you are among those who talk about what alternate energy will do for us, go ahead, invest in it.

Are we a nation posers who can't pay for what we want?

If the shoe fits, wear it.

Any Canadian that doesn't support the sale of this country's largest resource should automatically have their drivers license revoked. Also if the First Nations want to oppose any pipeline anywhere, then the Federal government Must cease any transfers of funds to them, as this resource is the only place the monies for First Nations should derive from. This should be the richest country in the world based on our resources, but the number of people with common sense have been decreasing and roadblocks by idiots have taken the country into enormous debt. It is time to change our direction to a more positive course financially.

  • Trevor B - 6 years ago

One more thing. I love how the losers in any debate (or poll) always claim it is fake or blame it on “bots”. If the vote had gone the other way, they would have been claiming a public victory.

  • Trevor B - 6 years ago

It is really a matter of jurisdiction. Burnaby may have bylaws, but the NEB has the right to override then in matters concerning interprovincial pipelines. It is much the same as a liquor license. Burnaby could allow a bar to be built, but the provincial government ultimately decides whether a license will be granted. Each level of government has a limited jurisdiction, and for pipelines, the final jurisdiction is the NEB.

  • John Smith - 6 years ago

Well do you really expect we (Alberta) need ways to export our Oilwhich wether you like it or not it does benefit the country and you all know why and do not bring up pollution there is a lot worse than Oil another thing why is Nova Scotia imports Oil from countries with pollution ten times worse than ours and treat their workers like slaves compared to Alberta but we all know but you choose to turn the blind eye thing why don’t you harass Quebec oh no we can’t do that their special so that is why the vote to bypass is Right

  • Wolfgang Meyer - 6 years ago

    Hi everybody,
There is no need to become overly aggressive in our comments regarding this pipeline. For now a pipeline appears to be quite a save method for transporting petroleum products. When that changes the pipelines will disappear. Meanwhile the people that own the land over which the pipelines run should be compensated properly. All other facilities needed to transport these oil products further than pipelines, should be build and be operated with every utmost care. This is done everywhere else in the world where oil products are found - why not here? What are the real issues behind these conflicting views?

  • darshan - 6 years ago

Land of thousands farmers will be used by not paying fair compensation moreover they have to put up restrictions for their farming operations. if kinder Morgan has big benefits by building, they should compensate farmers whom land they use and put restrictions for farming operations by the name of easement plus other 100 feet each side as safety zone as well.

  • Paulo - 6 years ago

If KM’s line and expanded tank farm are built, then blood will be on Alberta’s hands when the tank farm catches fire and the surrounding neighbourhood experiences fatalities.

When the first spill happens, and the dillbit sinks destroying fish habitat it will also be on Alberta’s hands.

Lower Mainland residents will fight and resist this intrusion under our homes and schools.

  • Old skool - 6 years ago

I look at my horses with greater admiration today.

  • Brian Kingman - 6 years ago

On August 8th 1952, our grandfather and his brother signed the easement and accepted $84.73 so that the pipeline could pass through2,300 feet of our farm, consuming over 3 acres of easement. As my wife says, she is the landowner, this has been 65 years of a Burden without Benefit. Even though we have lived with this oil pipeline and continue to put up with the restrictions for farming all these years, we still support the pipeline. Moving oil and supporting our economy for all of Canada, is still the best option via a pipeline. I am of the opinion that a rock slide in the Fraser Canyon, derailing a couple of rail cars of petroleum, or a catastrophic earth quake off Vancouver Island has more of a chance than a rupture of the pipelines, old one or new one.

  • Jim Oldham - 6 years ago

Considering that the pipeline and tank farm was in place long before most housing was built. People who moved in knowing the terminal was there and then started to complain should have another think. Tanker traffic has been coming down the coast into Puget Sound for decades with out incident (only Exxon Valdez which was a long way off). We all depend on products produced from oil ranging from clothing to medicines and much more. The issue is deciding which form of transportation is safest, rail, truck, ship or pipeline. Pipeline is by far the safest land method while double hulled ships and other improvements in marine shipping make that mode much safer.

People who oppose the pipeline options for shipping hydrocarbons would rather have 50 truck loads of jet fuel on busy roads every day or rail cars of crude coming through the Fraser Canyon.

  • Ken Dewsbury - 6 years ago

No controversy.here. It's called being for CANADA!

  • Tomas Manasek - 6 years ago

This decision shouldn't even be called *controversial*. It is absolutely logical, sensible and responsible. We can't afford to plunge this country into poverty for the sake of misguided and false ideology any longer.

  • Bot Killer - 6 years ago

    Lot's of bots here!!!

  • Janice - 6 years ago

I'm not totally against the transfer of oil in this manner, should the best, scientific studies show that it is a viable and environmentally safe, way to do so. The problem is that when Kinder Morgan hasn't done their homework, and fails the environmental tests, the powers that be, override all bylaws and the wishes of the people and our so called democratic system, and let them proceed with the project, regardless? That's not cool and for that, I vote no.

  • Elan Gibson - 6 years ago

Considering that it is Burnaby that is losing over 3500 trees and will suffer the consequences of a tank farm incident in a densely populated city I don't see how anyone else can comment on this decision.
The 157 conditions imposed on this company have not been met. It is not the same product that has been transported in past years. Kinder Morgan's liability ends at tide water so if a spill or accident happens on the water, it is yours and my tax dollars that will pay for it and suffer the consequences. There are numerous court cases that have not been heard...and if any one of them goes against Kinder Morgan, Burnaby is stuck with the loss of trees, carbon neutralizing medicine for yours and my air. AND finally the NEB has given permission for the override on city by-laws without giving their reasons...so Kinder Morgan can go ahead with their tree cutting escapade without having to withstand the scrutiny of a thinking person or population. REALLY!

  • Mike palmer - 6 years ago

Finally Canada is no longer the laughing stock of the world!!

  • Jo Middleton - 6 years ago

If Burnaby is so in favour of 'Green' , you should be doing YOUR PART and switching off that little lever that forces you to burn gas in your furnace & VEHICLE, OTHERWISE YOU ARE 'STUPID' OR A 'HYPOCRITE' OR 'IN HAND WITH US OIL WHO WANT A MONOPOLY ON THE $ MARKETS FOR THEMSELVES'.

  • John Tackaberry - 6 years ago

Kinder Morgan (Trans Mountain Pipelines) has been shipping 350,000 bpd for 58 years. Never had a problem. Would you sooner have more railcars or a properly constructed expanded pipeline to deliver a product that benefits all of Canada? The world is demanding more oil .... having an ability to deliver Canadian oil at world prices benefits the entire country. We have been selling our product at a 30% discount forever. Not only should the Kinder Morgan expansion go ahead but so should Energy East. Why is Canada importing 800,000 bpd from the likes of Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Nigeria to allow refineries to operate in St John, Levi Quebec, and Sarnia? Makes no sense to me. Time we started thinking like Canadians and doing what’s right for our country. I’m beginning to think all natural resources should belong to the country vs individual provinces. Then maybe we could circumvent these provincial and municipal road blocks that cause economic problems for the country. Thank heavens we have the Trans Canada highway, two trans country railways, the Welland Canal and the Great Lakes Waterways done. Same goes for the Canso Causeway, various hydro electrical projects and other essential Canadian infrastructure already built. In today’s society, with gutless politicians and some citizens who really don’t understand economics and the need to be able to compete in a world market, it’s questionable these projects would ever be completed. All the studies have been done .... all the hoops have been jumped .... all conditions have been met .... let’s get on with it.

This Poll CANNOT be accurate! Who is altering the data?

  • Ash Nicholas - 6 years ago

It’s obvious when the federal government is running out of our tax dollars. They throw there fake environmental con out the window in order to fill up the coffers. Producing clean fuel is good for the country and the world. Green energy is nothing but a scam that is now unraveling due to the huge subsidies it takes to run them. Clean ethical oil and gas is the way to go. Technology has made great strides in cleaning up the emissions. As time goes on it will only get cleaner. Much to the dismay of enviro greens and alt left radicals.they are doing the bidding of large green corporations who are behind the lies and fake news about conventional oil and gas.

  • Will - 6 years ago

Those who support oil and gas support mass murderers, an need to be ran the hell out the country. This thread is so polluted by paid oil and gas trolls that it's sickening. Murdeous scum!

  • Ralph - 6 years ago

This bylaw was supported by the ALT left wing extremist Mayor who was already a left wing radical in his youth when he went to UBC. He is stuck in his left wing rut?

Glad to see that these shenanigans were not successful. We need a LOT MORE pipelines and a LOT MORE refineries so we can get the cost of gasoline DOWN. That benefits EVERYONE including the poor.

The facts are that pipelines ARE safer than rail or tanker truck transportation.

  • Scott J - 6 years ago

How sad that people fall for the whims of a US oil consortium which likes us providing subsidized oil to them while buying at world price from OPEC countries. Energy East was shut down because the bikers and mob own the ports and pay off our Liberal government to keep their income alive. Energy East equals no ports and no kick backs. If everyone believes in the environment as much as they say - prove it! Take out your pocket books and pay for sewage treatment in Victoria. If each BC resident gave just a few dollars they could prove that they believe in the environment. Until then I will think of them as the hypocrites they are and their opinion is worthless as they don't value a green planet (if they have to pay). Case closed!

  • Marios - 6 years ago

In BC we are hypocritical. We pretend to save the world by stopping the pollution from oil pipelines, but we continue exporting coal (see the dock next to the Victoria ferry south of Vancouver). Canada is one of six countries in the world that has more carbon sinks than our footprint. Canada's carbon footprint is 1.6% of the world's and its carbon sink is 10 to 12% of the world's. So we could legally claim carbon credits from Asia, the US and Europe, but our Governments are slipping and we don't. Instead we try to screw our income producing industries believing that somehow we can continue to live a decent life..... How clueless and gullible dreamers we are. We haven't thought that we don't need to feel guilty? As far as protecting the pristine waters of BC, think again. I was working on tugboats while going to UBC, we were towing barges loaded with concentrated ammonia and chlorine. A danger not only to the "pristine" water but also to, land the air and the cities. Yes i think it is time for BC to weak up.

  • Larry Hallatt - 6 years ago

The pipelines both West and East are a nightmare due to poor political leadership by both Harper and Trudeau and the constant foolish cry by environmental extremist.

Lets recognize the average age of pipelines in North America is around 60 years old. They have been running successfully for generations, but as a sane citizen who supports the extraction of hydrocarbons like any good resource, I also want a clean environment and healthy society that obtains tax revenue from this industry. The NEB should have long ago simply ordered a replacement of the old lines with enhanced new pipelines , as after so many years the metals must now be weak due to acid and oxidization and metal fatigue is likely because of the thousands of earthquakes that have occurred moving rock, soil and the pipes over the generations especially in BC and put pressure on the pipe itself.

Think about it folks how many of you were able to drive a 1950 or 60 ties car over these 40 to 60 years. Iron rusts out and old things break down and need replacement..

  • Noelle Brown - 6 years ago

Greenies are not logical but they are certainly two-faced on environmental issues. They carry cell phone, use plastic kayaks, drive vehicles and fly everywhere, they eat and I will bet they watch TV and use other media devices which are either delivered by or incorporated and produced by oil bi-products.
If they all walked and carry plackets and signs made with leaf that had fallen off trees I might listen.
Since jet fuel is way up there on Carbon no, noes, and the production and mining of Wind and Solar is off the charts in Carbon foot prints and dumping of raw sewage is okay. I just can't listen to the nonsense delivered by these Green Foot print makers.

  • rob - 6 years ago

Why the "controversial" there is nothing "controversial" about this. Pipelines are a Federal issue not provincial or municipal. Obviously written by a leftwing, socialist.

Wake up Vancouver! This is a huge country in the northen hemisphere, remember? There is much more to Canada than the lower mainland. Everything moves by truck, rail, and yes, pipeline. Notley, Trudeau, and now Horgan have their heads up their collective asses. WE are a RESOURCE BASED economy. It’s cold here, especially on the prairies in the winter. We need gas to heat our homes. Solar and wind wont cut it. Responsible energy development and exports will provide the income and revenue this relatively sparsely populated country needs to fund the social programs, and the health and education standards that we expect. Get real. BC should ban logging altogether because you are killing a carbon sink. Cars in the lower mainland are killing everyone there slowly. Shut down marine export terminals immediately. Big industry across the West are producing what you are exporting, resulting in a huge carbon footprint.

  • Marlene - 6 years ago

I agree with George. Any province that dumps sewage into the ocean is affecting the whole world. They turn a blind on to that don't they. Smarten up BC the pipeline will help bring down oil prices..

  • Kevin Smith - 6 years ago

As a country we need to get away from selling everything to the USA who now is a competitor getting cheap oil from us and building their pipelines under Obama while blocking KXL to sell oil into foreign markets reaping the profits that are need here to support our social sevices. We need to get the politics out of pipeline decisions KM is ok Energy East is not and because it goes through Liberalo Quebec. Energy East get the Burnaby treatment from the Feds. Our government is a disgrace.

    1. We are the most aware of the environment
    2. We care and we are careful (shit will always happen)

4 What happens if they cut us off? You take the donkey to work?
    5. How do we pay for all the debt your fairy CRIME MINISTER is putting us in?
    6. All evidence shows against the enviro radicals
    7. Facts don't give a shit what you believe

    Love thy neighbor...
If you don't want to contribute to it the DON'T DRIVE... Lead by example but hypocrisy is all it is

  • Sieg - 6 years ago

Vincent, Kinder Morgan paid No One. There should have never been a controversy as this is under federal jurisdiction. I challenge all the green people that from now they don’t buy gas for their cars, don’t heat your homes with natural gas. Don’t buy anything made from plastic etc. Start walking everywhere, don’t fly or use a bus. You can’t even ride your bike as the tires are also made using petroleum products. Don’t buy any food or anything at all as it is delivered by truck.Go back using horses. Oh you can’t as they also eat hay & grain. Which is produced using gas & diesel. It is approven fact Pipeline is safer then rail cars. Grow up people

  • On Fire - 6 years ago

One look at any comment section on related articles and one can find many fake profiles touting and cheerleading new pipelines on. All bought and paid for by the industries themselves. It’s sad and sickening, but I can see right through them and their useless little babblings. You can’t KM, we will fight you in the courtrooms and on the frontlines. See you there!!! ????

Sean A holy shit man do you think we give a shit you think you are some royal this or that. As for that idiot Turdreau he never graduated from anything he tried in life. As for you being retired at 27 bet you still live in mommies basement and if she speaks out then what because you are Moslem the stones start flying. Get the fuck over yourself number 1 and oil and gas are both viable energy sources for now and for a very long time to come. We are not sheeple as you think, not a lot of us anyways we all know Islam and your kind must be stopped at all costs.

Great Decision by the national energy Board
The absolute huge subsidies that we are allowing the Americans to reap from our land locked oil reserves is absolute disgusting situation
Large percentage of the squaker are living off of the land and government subsidies to sustain their existence chosen quality of life.
It is time to do the right thing and get behind this project that has huge financial gains for Canada.
Let’s get on board and make this pipeline the safest in the world

  • Vincent - 6 years ago

Did Kinder Morgan pay to have people vote and comment on this article?? Disappointed in the vote results and much of the commentary (I would perhaps expect more of this type of thinking in rural Alberta but not here). I thought Vancouverites to be a much more progressive and forward thinking population given the beauty, nature and wildlife throughout coastal British Columbia and the lower mainland. Perhaps lower mainlanders won't realize what they have until its long gone - and never coming back.

"When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money."

  • Bob Pearson - 6 years ago

No-one can please all of the people all of the time....so the question becomes what action should be taken for the greater good of most of the people much of the time.
For Canadians, that is letting crude oil and gas get to tidewater from NEBC and Ab, instead of being transported by rail and/or via the US,where value is skimmed-off by others.
The world will continue to need access to cheap energy through the transition period to a low carbon environment. It will be quite a while until gasoline and diesel motors and Jet engines can be phased-out in the developing world outside of the OECD countries and/or new chemical processes are introduced to replace petro-chemicals. In the meantime, the world should be encouraged to use products produced in Canada under high environmental and safety standards. The resulting cash-flow will sustain our economy and fuel the transition, infrastructure development and maintenance of our standard of living, as well as our social safety net and other government services. Congratulations to the NEB in standing by their earlier findings, despite vociferous opposition from well meaning protesters. The sensible middle ground is defined by both the proponents and the opposition. It is great to be in a country where both sides can have their say and then the regulators carefully weigh the arguments and set the final conditions under which we all operate.

  • Anthony Stadnyk - 6 years ago

Higher consumption of the fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas is correlated with (I) increased human health (II) increased safety and (iii) increased material wealth. Worldwide, countries with higher per capita consumption of natural gas and oil are wealthier, safer and happier places to enjoy life. Consider the case of China and India, who have increased by five times their consumption of fossil fuels since 1980 and seen a seven and ten-year respective increase in average lifespan. Or the case of China where increased GDP per capita is linearly correlated with increased coal, oil and gas use. Clearly, anyone who holds human life and human prosperity as their standard of value should support fossil fuel consumption and production. These sources of energy are economic and reliable and Canada is very lucky to have abundant reserves. Moreover, we are an environmentally and socially responsible nation and should be the first choice for exporting these products.

The mayor of Burnaby cannot simultaneously claim the right to dislike Canadian pipelines while simultaneously enjoying all of oil's benefits including clean water, heat in winter, efficient transportation, modern medicine and a prosperous society. Time to build it and stop taking the opinion of Burnaby's anti-everything crowd.

  • Sean A. - 6 years ago

Vernon Sinnott : it's called "Ethanol" ... as for wheat : you do know that production could simply be increased? that not all the land in the world is in use, by any means? or is your shekel slave mind ;)

And with the number of oil spills : just a matter of time before Fukushima's destruction becomes relatively piddly ; I'm sure they planned for safety ... and I am absolutely positive their government and organizations are more proficient than wretched sheeple's any day :P

  • Vernon Sinnott - 6 years ago

Sean A. says we can make our vehicles run on wheat. I believe wheat is better utilized as food. Canadian petroleum should get to market in an environmentally sustainable way. It needs to be transported safely. Pipelines are the answer for both. Upstream & downstream emissions should not been part of the equation for Energy East. This federal government effectively killed it by doing so. Bombardier is not put under such scrutiny. The Northern Gateway was approved but killed by this Liberal government. The Oil & Gas Industry in this country contributes thousands of jobs and billions to our economy. The impact would be far greater if we allow the industry to sell worldwide, instead of just to the USA. Stop letting the vocal minority dictate this issue. They have held us prisoner long enough. Get pipelines built to both coasts. The government should ensure that the most up to date technology is used from the properly monitored pipelines to multi-hulled tankers. Ensure the best protection for our environment by making industry use the best technology. Let our economy prosper by supporting the Oil & Gas industry. Allow our nation to benefit from this. The royalties pay for many social programs nation wide. That effect will be greater once Canada supplies the world. We need more than one market.

  • John Snell - 6 years ago

I find it very interesting that the mayor of Burnaby and some of his staff continue to fight this project. If they look at their own Municipal Pension Plan they would find that they currently enjoy the dividend benefits of owning shares in the very companies that will directly benefit from oil export via this pipeline, Suncor, Enbridge, Cdn Natural Resources, TransCanada and Exon. These share values exceed $800 Million, on top of their pension fund also hold $1.4 Billion in our banks that are the major lenders on this project.
How can these individuals have it both ways, if the majority are really opposed to the developments of Canada’s natural resources why not instruct the managers to sell these investments??

  • Ron Roy - 6 years ago

I'm perplexed at the stupidity of some of these comments opposing the exploitation of our natural resources until they are depleted and by then we might have other options that will be as beneficial in generating tax dollars and revenue for Government coffers. What about the additional jobs these projects create? That SAP in Ottawa seems to think he's using his own piggy bank to give away Millions to unjust and undeserving self centered ideals Now we have another SAP in B.C. cancelling pipelines and dam projects creating job & revenue losses to sooth his Megalomaniac Ego. What about those NDP idiots wanting to use our tax dollars to strengthen their & the Green Party's position. They will get what they deserve come the next Election.
In my previous Division Management career, a couple of performance critiquing sessions with these SAPS would surely result in DISMISSAL if a reversal in this negative impact on the Economy isn't replaced with positive impact and this change would have to achieve fruition very quickly.

    Good Comments Paul.
I am amazed most of the comments are from people who don't seem to mind at all about Victoria and Vancouver dumping sewage into the world's oceans.
You just can't turn a switch tomorrow and get rid of Oil & Gas consumption it will be years before we can truly be free of Petroleum Products.
Do some research too, don't take my word about it, about battery life and disposal of that material. So far all of the so called Alternative Energy Products are not working without huge Government subsidies either.
Check out the number of bird kills by the Wind farms too I am sure the number is far greater than any of the amounts ever caught in Ponds at the Oil Sands but no one complains.

  • Robert in Burnaby - 6 years ago

Canada's oil is produced very safely. Our energy industry workers are well paid and treated with respect. Tax revenues from our oil and gas industries pay for about 25% of our social programmes and healthcare. The world will still be using oil and gas for many decades. It's better for Canada and the world if they buy it from us instead of from countries that don't care about workers rights, women, gays, human rights, or the environment.

  • Ivan - 6 years ago

This is the correct thing to do. The oil product is going to be taken out of the ground and transported anyway, either by train, tanker trucks, or by the safest route, a pipeline. Until new green methods of capturing and distributing energy are perfected, oil will remain king. So instead of just bitching about it we should put our heads together and work on a green solution.

Every decision of the National Energy Board on whether to certificate a pipeline does not have to turned by environmentalist zealots into a referendum on whether humans are causing catastrophic global warming or whether transportation of oil by pipelines and tankers is safe. The National Energy Board is an independent quasi-judicial body that conducted years of hearings and analysis during which all parties had their say and concluded that, based on the evidence, the Trans Mountain Expansion Project should be certificated. The issue is squarely in federal government jurisdiction, not the jurisdiction of British Columbia and certainly not the municipality of Burnaby. Get over it, opponents!

  • Kurt - 6 years ago

Sean A. You are one naive person! 80% of the stuff you use in your day to day life comes from petroleum based products! "benefit all Canadians" that's bullsh*t propaganda : oil is an outdated technology that is causing more harm than good (quite frankly : it's just an expeditionary technology for money lenders to steal land+resources with genocidal entitlement) ; even Elon Musk has electric semi-trucks coming ... it's time to embrace the future : not force taxpayers to fund obsolete harmful junk!

  • John Jacobsen - 6 years ago

What is embarrassing is BC Polirical leader being unpatriotic Canadians. Are we not part of Canada here in B.C.? We need to support, not hinder a pipeline that will benefit all Canadians.

  • Paul - 6 years ago

This is still the example of our “not in our back yard’ mentality and I refuse to change my extreme position. There has been the appropriate level of consultation with all groups. There are legitimate concerns going through land owner’s properties, Indigenes consultations on the route has been done with majority approving. The design of the pipeline is world class, It is the safest mode to move the products. Petroleum product freighter traffic will increase no matter what through the Burrard Inlet, going or coming. (Jet fuel from Washington State). The interference from the municipal and potential warnings from the NDP Provincial Gov. of resistance after continual reassurance that it is approved and in every Canadians interest to develop our resources and get them to market. Yet we still have elected people standing up twisting and influencing public opinion of the opposite. 1) trans mountain must still work within the bylaw frame work and all zoning guide lines that the city of Burnaby would not issue permits for, they still must follow the rules. I hope the NEB will set up a quick resolution process for future issues with cities and the Province ahead of the next issue. There is a responsibility of everyone to help tone down the false information of there is no spill response, it will endanger the orcas, I did not approve of the development, they did not consult with us through or get my blessing.

  • Ellie - 6 years ago

Canada should be doing everything it can to change over to sustainable non polluting energy. This pipeline sadly is the opposite of that. Sustainable energy will provide jobs while also being environmentally responsible. Canada could be a world leader in this area with all our natural resources of geothermal, ocean current, wind, etc. and instead is dragging behind by building more fossil fuel lines and contributing to pollution and global warming. Canada is not being responsible and this choice is globally devastating not to mention embarrassing.

The biggest daily risk will be the tankers travelling the length of Bancouver harbour.
A big risk has already started with KM cutting of supply of the Chevron refinery, for which the pipeline was initially built. Now oil is being brought in by train, causing extreme danger along it's route, which includes populated parts of New Westminster.
The intelligent pipeline route is staying south of the Fraser river and put to Roberts Bank.
