This dam will cost provincial tax payers for the next 70 years. The electricity it produces will have to be subsidized; the spot market over that time will be less than half the cost for purchasers of Site C power. The valley (the only place in the north within 1500 km that can grow market garden food) will be lost forever; it could feed 1 million people per year... and we are not talking canola or hay, rather cantaloupe, corn, tomatoes, cherries and more. Only in 25 years will the light bulb come on to supporters of the dam that it is a boondoggle. By then too many of those people will be dead or be in long term care and it will be 24 years too late to do anything about it. So sad. What a waste.

Having lived in the Peace River area for almost 30 years I am very familiar with the area and the surroundings of the Peace River Valley. I totally support the Site C project, people wake up, you want clean renewable power? I pay $ 30.00/month for my hydro and use my electricity at a minimum to be environmentally responsible. This is very low compared to other countries who use nuclear reactors, you want that? The notion that the flooding will cause possible food shortages in the province is absolutely ridiculous. The valley produced some grain, vegetables and beef. Most of our food comes from California, the Okanogan, the lower mainland and even China. I feel for the famers and residents that are displaced and my heart goes out to them; however I am sure they are handsomely compensated. Most people who are against the new dam have never been in the Peace River area to be entitled to criticize. The Bennett dam built in the 1960's created a new natural environment that we always enjoyed. This new dam will do the same thing once it is done, It does not look nice now with all the construction but vegetation will regrow and it will look beautiful again once the project is done. Congratulations to our Premier Hogan who had the the courage to make the right decision.
British Columbians are leading in the country for being environmentally concerned, so stay in reality and see the new dam as new clean renewable energy instead of having miles and miles of windmill parks and ugly coal mines.

This project was still on budget until the NDP and greens put a hold on it then had millions of dollars in studies conducted. Not to mention the protests blocking construction from starting and delaying the project further and Chris what the heck do you know about tension cracks?! I'm sorry it's a trigger word for you but you really know very little about what you're talking about just keep your head in the sand down in southern BC us northerners will continue to to what we've always done and keep the lights on so your delicate eyes don't have to strain and the last thing on budget.... name one project in BC that was completed on time and on budget in the last 15 years heck find one in the last 20 . This is clean energy plain and simple, solar panels are toxic and windmills kill bats dams just make a lake and create energy

I can't believe that all anyone talks about is the money. How about the issue of major tension cracks and the fact that this dam is/was being pushed through knowing that it is unsafe and will prob have a major failure at some point. C.Clark and crew knew this and still pushed forward, this is on them.

We have all the electricity we need.
We need the farm land to remain.
    We need to stop this.
The money spent was a mistake.
    Move on.
We need to look carefully at restoring British Columbia. not plundering her.
We need to rebuild the forests ,the rivers, streams and waterways .
The wild salmon must be able to spawn unhindered by man's projects and mistakes.
It is ridiculous to keep on taking from the land without dire consequence......i would remove all dams and clean up all rivers and plant trees for future generations.
The oceans need to be clear of plastics and safe from oil disaster.
It is about reverence for all life.
Good economics in the long run is a healthy planet.
We are hurtling towards complete disaster.

Hogan made a difficult but financially responsible decision, considering the cost to taxpayers of not completing site C.

Electricity will be the fuel of the future and site C will benefit British Columbians while providing the option for unused power to be exported.

Site C also provides a benefit other than electricity; a vast reservoir of water, water which may well be needed in the years ahead.

As a Peace Region citizen I can honestly say that almost everyone I know is a supporter of the Site C Dam. Sure, there is a small percentage of people around here that are very opposed and very loud in their opposition to it but that is NOT the most widely held opinion. As always they people screaming NO at a chance to prepare for the future are the loudest, thanks NDP party for not listening to those that would have our region and province stagnate.

This is totally irresponsible for this government to go ahead with this project...this should never have been allowed the go ahead to continue the construction past the point of no return. The people of BC Have been royally screwed and will be forced via taxes to pay the bill no matter what the outcome but with the dam completion it will be over budget and sky high, there will be minmal employment with this project. As for your fcuking $55.dollar bus pass for the disabled pranced around like a big fckuing deal...woooooohooooo! Like the NDP did so much for the little guy. The NDP and all parties are a joke. How much was the payoff to the NDP to push this thing through? The previous LIberal government should be thrown in jail also for their part in the fiscal mismanagement of the province.

Given a choice between thousands of windmills as far as the eye can see or Site C - the dam is better. If we are all going to zoom around in electric cars and power our homes
with electricity that power will be needed. Windmills are not the solution.

I’m not an NDP supporter nor did I support the construction of site C as proposed by the liberals in 2014. Christy Clark pushed this on the residents of BC and was determined to get it passed the point of no return, in that regard she was successful. Premier Horgan only promised a review of the project not outright cancelation. I feel for all of you who are so vehemently opposed to Site C and I agree with you. Laying blame on Horgan however is misplaced anger, the real culprit is our previous liberal government. And in particular Christie Clark. While the electorate of BC have already received their just reward by showing their displeasure by not giving the female dog (sorry I couldn’t help myself) another term. So in the next election let’s not forget how she screwed us and not vote the liberals in. Gee maybe I am an NDP supporter after all. Thanks for making the responsible fiscal decision Mr. Horgan.
