Why do you think there’s so much litter in Newfoundland and Labrador?

I recently watched several 30+ year old women get into a car at the local mall. Before driving away the driver opened her door and emptied the car of a number of empty food containers. I was stunned. This laziness pure and simple. Garbage in NL is every where. I believe a province wide ban on plastic shopping bags is long over due. It will be a pain initially but we will adjust. I think it will promote awareness of our serious issue with garbage.

I'm not offended by litter. or anything. It is not pollution. Just inert crap. "What chance do we have when even our youth fail to see the perils of their actions." Who taught them to be litterbugs, MTV?

    Drones can save us? Optics?

"people are not likely to drive a long way to get rid of garbage, or go through a lot of trouble trying to get it picked up"

Can drones just fly around picking up after us, like Mudder, during Christmas?

The Manolis L is the Feds not taking out the garbage. Or is the high school students driving a trickle-up values revolution?

How much do the closing of many regional dumps have to do with it...people are not likely to drive a long way to get rid of garbage, or go through a lot of trouble trying to get it piced up.. ???

Discouraging to see this in my home Province. I think that people feel as long as the "garbage" is out of their homes, their thinking doesn't go any further, as then it becomes someone else's problem and they are ok with that. Imposing Littering fines may help and rewards to "anonymous persons" on reporting illegal dumping could be beneficial. Please take pride in your surroundings outside.. Initiate recycling!!!!!

Please follow-up on this survey with a series of such surveys and perhaps ask the public for potential solutions to litter/dumping.Gov NL could help municipalities afford trail cameras, drone usage to identify as of yet reported dump sites and and to fully pursue potential charges/fines.This problem of disrespecting our collective environments, land and water, is/has always been accepted socially in NL and media can certainly play a huge role in finding solutions through such surveys and more.Photo contest of worst sites, inviting input from MNL or individual municipalities as to their struggles with the problems of habitat damage cause by litter and illegal dumping by individuals and contractors/companies.

Blows my mind. I see it every day. It's quite common to see a high school student finish a bag of chips or bottle of drink and throw the garbage on the street. Even though a garbage can is less than five feet away.. What chance do we have when even our youth fail to see the perils of their actions.
