It's funny to see that people who likes the movie doesn't feel the need of defend it as hell,
while the people who hates it does...
I really wondering why. I saw few polls and most of then are positive or at worst 50-50.
But in comments it's mostly only the people who hates it meking comments.
    Fascinating! :)
Also comments like: "RJ should be hanged", or "if you like the movie your IQ is less than...", shows the level of the people commenting.
Looking forward for Solo and Ep.9 while doing lot of other things in my life ;)

The only people who liked TLJ are Disney execs and fanboys who refuse to admit SW could have a terrible movie lol. And I suppose idiots with IQs below 85.

I saw TFA, RO and TLJ all on opening night - bought my tickets weeks/months in advance. In fact for TLJ I paid $20 just to be able to see it early at 6pm rather than 7pm for the regular audiences (and I got a free Luke Skywalker bobblehead!). So needless to say I was beyond excited for the film to start. And then it opens with a "can you hear me now" joke scene that was so awful it made me cringe. And then it just kept going downhill from there.

At the end of TFA and RO there was standing applause - after TLJ there were maybe 3 people who clapped. And that's a TLJ audience that all paid $20 just to see it an hour early and get a bobblehead - obviously huge SW fans. And we hated it. The look of disappointment on everyone's face as we were leaving was terrible. So much excitement just hours earlier to this feeling of utter disgustment.

I still love my Luke Skywalker bobblehead who sits on top of my refrigerator but I will never pay money to see another SW movie after this. I hope JJ can somehow fix the trash mess that TLJ left behind but I will wait to watch it for free.

The thing I've noted about everyone I've known for decades who hated TLJ is that they all have always had a lack of imagination.

  • Bill - 6 years ago

I honestly don't understand how anyone could enjoy TLJ - the worst storyline for a movie EVER! So full of plot holes you must be drunk to think this pile of shit is a decent movie.

Last Jedi is favoured by more people atm. Just shows that the ones who didn’t like it cry tears all over the internet while those who did just get on with life while waiting for the blu ray release

    Holdo lame useless
    Canto bite lame
Master code breaker lame. Maz said rarified happen to meet only dude in jail who could have left anytime
R2luke cheap shot against fans. Not trying to be like old movies but show you ok stuff then say fuck off
    Too much slapstick
Lightspeed tracking lame. Just get on other ships
    Leia Poppins awful
Too much back and forth scene cuts
    Too much social justice.
Attempting to kill the old trilogy but forever stealing it's premace is like the banks railing against crypto then using the block chain.
There's nothing wrong with Daisy ridley in this her facial expressions when listening to Luke is genuine acting. Luke not going is bull shit no matter how you put it.
Social justice stand in judges dj and laps up his skill without thanking him.
Why didn't first order just jump ahead of rebels.
Why not tell everyone who's about to die the brilliant plan in rebel ships.
Why blue milk scene really. People on tatoine would not get blue milk from secret island creature.
It all feels phony. Stealing themes enough to keep a non star wars movie in star wars then trying to project the theme that we need to let go of the original trilogy except what serves the new story. Stupid logic.
Finn's they believe in Leia speech well they don't believe because no one came. Luke had to come. So they wrote her out of usefulness.
    Hole in back lame
Why would anyone give a shit if they want come for Leia. Like fake being there isn't gonna help.
Daisy has no idea luke saved everyone. She left him pissed that he was useless.
Apparently kk says Finn Poe and Daisy will return later. So no bold deaths here just the kylo copout coming. He's dead wooden characters live on.

TFA is better because of two reasons
    1) It made me excited for Star Wars. After TFA I wanted to see what they would do next, what new story they would tell. After TLJ all that excitement is gone. It's the same conflict as the original trilogy just minus the likeable characters. Not saying the actors are bad but TLJ decided to focus far more on themes than characters so I ultimately don't connect as much to the new cast, especially not the same way I connected with them in TAG.
    2) It makes either the original trilogy or all of Star Wars pointless and I can't tell which is worse. All of the meaning, all of the characters, everything they ever tried to accomplish is rendered moot by TLJ. They wanted to end the Empire and restore the Republic? Well it's gone now and The Empire is back. Luke redeemed his father? Well he now tries to kill his nephew. Bring back the Jedi? Nope, just created the new Darth Vader. Han and Leia have a happy relationship? Nope they're both bitter old people. Same with Luke.
And that's why it's dividing so many people, you basically have a movie, based in a franchise, thumping it's nose at fans for caring or liking the original trilogy, finding meaning and comfort in it and then telling them how bad it is to care about the original trilogy, it's characters or what happened in the universe.

For me the problem with “The Last Jedi” was the same problem with the Prequel Trilogy; it was a good story, but it was told really, incredibly badly. That is not a “Star Wars” problem; that is a screenwriting problem, it is a pacing and directing problem. It will make any movie difficult to enjoy.

“The Force Awakens”, while not breaking any new ground, was a familiar story that was at least told well. The sets were tremendous, the filming techniques were modern but not overly effects-driven...it was aesthetically satisfying to watch.

  • Simple fan - 6 years ago

I liked both movies, but personally, I think I enjoyed TLJ more. Sure, it had some flaws, cringe, and unnecessary scenes; even so, it was the new experience I had wanted to see. TFA was too similar to ANH. I think they were trying to play it safe and ease the fans back to the franchise with nostalgia, but personally, I felt that it was half boring. TFA felt like it lasted longer than TLJ when I watched it in the theaters. TLJ gave me the unexpected and the excitement. Rian risked his story, and it won me over. But I can understand others' opinions to not like it.

  • Rex - 6 years ago

I don't know why so many people hate this movie. Because it subverted your expectations? Because you are bitter that they actually made a better movie than you envisioned and can only lash out at it? It seems to be the way with neigh-sayers and bullies. The story was wonderful and the middle bits were highly enjoyable. Fast paced followed by slow, take-a-breather development, then finished with amazing climatic ending. Best Star Wars Ever. EVER!

Having watched all the 7 episodes of StarWars including Rogue one I must say Episode 8 was very intriguing fr m The ReyLo Arc was pushed right to the edge e fight sequence with the knights of KyloRen was one of e best action sequences fr m even e Crait planet fight was well executed it answered fr m why e red colour was used fr e episode 8 movie posted. I look frwrd to how Rians challenge to UK Abrams will b answered in Episode 9. Also look frwrd to a next offering #Solo this year!

TLJ has a creative edge that every person who hates it probably will only appreciate once EP 9 is out.

    Rian Johnson should be hanged

  • Mike Rhyner - 6 years ago

TLJ was the biggest disappointment in the history of Star Wars. Was there anything good in the movie? I mean the Rey and Kylo fight with the imperial guards was cool but that was pretty much the only good scene in the entire movie.

As a lifelong Star Wars fan this movie really hurts. It's obvious the director has only watched Marvel movies and has never seen the original trilogy and was just making shit up as he went along.

  • Mack H - 6 years ago

Ok here goes, I honestly loved The Last Jedi. TFA was well made and well written but I felt kind of strung along by the end. As a fan I love fan service, but TFA felt as though it was an entire movie built on fan service and lacked substance. Han's story was an amazing farewell and I loved meeting the new characters. However it's just too similar to A New Hope for me. I've seen ANH too many times to count and when I rewatch TFA I just find myself board. I may not be a fan that "counts" because though I grew up with the originals, I like the prequels as well. I loved how each era has its own distinct feel and other projects like R1 and Rebels get to play with both aesthetics. TLJ really gave me that newness I was craving. Yes it did feel a bit cheesey at times, but that's the general feel of today's big films. The original trilogy was an amalgam of the great film genres of that time. It was a samurai, western, sci-fi. TLJ to me, and again this is just me, (we can all disagree and it's okay!) is the Star Wars I've been waiting for all along. As far as people I know who liked vs disliked it. My sister and her friends are all 14 yr old tumblr addicts. They hated Rose Tico with a passion because she had the audacity to kiss Finn. I pointed out he was very uncomfortable and didn't kiss her back but she didn't see it that way. My parents both saw ANH when they were 10 and 12. Both LOVED TLJ. Watching my mom (a 52 yr old rose tico fan) go head to head with my sister was wonderful. A lot of my friends are casual SW fans. They loved it, but that doesn't say much. Many of my friends who are true forever fans said they are firmly 50/50 hate love. One more thing: I will never understand the Luke hate. Luke in TLJ was just as, if not more, human and relatable than he was in the originals. The entire Galaxy told him he was their perfect savior and after a while he began to believe that. Just like many celebrities and sports icons today, he believed he was perfect because the public constantly told him so. When he messed up, which even Jedi tend to do on occasion (see poor Yoda in the prequel trilogy), he was overcome with guilt which spiraled into bitterness. The guy was tasked with removing the evil from a descendant of Vader who I've heard described as Space Hitler. Of course failing a task like that is going to leave some emotional damage. I do really hope JJ is able to create an episode 9 that feels like a new era and gives the nostalgic feelings. We Star Wars fans have rarely been split like this and it's just not as fun. Help us JJ Abrams, you're our only hope!

As a huge fan of the original trilogy and having grown up in the 70s and 80s, I really liked TLJ but did not enjoy TFA, primarily due to all of JJ Abram’s never-ending mystery box MO, and also due to Han’s farcical death scene. Han’s death should have been much more epic / noble. He should have died defending Rey (or Leia), against Kylo.

Further, TFA is what ruined Luke’s character, not TLJ. The original trilogy Luke would always have been there for Han, just as Han was always there for Luke. I would have preferred Mark Hamill’s idea, that Leia contacts Luke and they both rush to try to save Han but arrive too late. Luke making no effort to intervene to save Han killed the entire storyline for me, and the primary three original trilogy characters were NEVER seen onscreen together again — THE most tragic and utterly egregious decision of the entire Disney owned series!

TLJ just tried to make the best of the situation it was dealt and portray the only scenario in which Luke would not have tried to save Han — a scenario in which Luke was so despondent / destroyed himself that he cut himself off from everything, including the Force, due to his own failings and shaken belief system, feeling that everyone was better off without his involvement. And a single visit from a random girl would not suddenly change his mind. Had it, that would have even further destroyed the original Luke that we all know and love

  • Dan McDowell - 6 years ago

Wow obviously a lot of Disney employees voting on this lol.

TFA wasn't perfect by any means but it was still a worthy sequel to the originals and set up many interesting questions. TLJ basically shit on everything that came before it.

The main story of TLJ is built around an ultra slow speed space chase that lasts for something like 36 hours. The First Order has nothing better to do? Send out Tie Fighters! Jump in front of them! Anything would make more sense than "sir I'm sorry to report they are going the same speed we are and we can't figure out a solution."

The Canto Bite (casino) story was the single worst storyline in the history of Star Wars. Not only was everything in that storyline terrible it was made completely irrelevant!

TFA made me like Poe and Finn although Rey was too much of a Mary Sue - TLJ makes Poe and Finn easy to hate and makes Rey even more of a Mary Sue! And we get Rose - the worst character since Jar Jar. Or maybe Admiral Holdo... Nice job Rian - we never thought it possible to have characters worse than Jar Jar and you find a way to give us 2 in 1 movie.

Anyone who thinks Luke fucking Skywalker would murder his nephew of his best friend in cold blood has never understood a single thing about Star Wars.

The Space Balls comedy was beyond horrible. It's even worse when the villains have the comedy because now Kylo and Hux are nothing more than Hogan's Heroes slap stick bad guys.

TLJ destroyed every possible good thing about Star Wars. Rian even said it himself that he wanted to kill the old Star Wars. Congrats Rian, you succeeded. But what will Disney say when the next movies perform like Justice League. Good luck Disney - as a lifelong Star Wars fan I'm forever done with the franchise now.

  • Bob - 6 years ago

TLJ not only fails as a Star Wars movie, it fails as a movie in general. Terrible plot full of holes and possibly the worst character development in movie history.

  • Patrick Marino - 6 years ago

I also don't know anyone who liked the last Jedi who is either a fan of movies or over the age of 12. I think in hindsight, people are going to see this movie as the proper end of the Star Wars phenomenon. The end of record grosses, and the beginning of Star Wars just becoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequels.

The Luke Skywalker arc? Awful. But nowhere near the worst part.

Bad humor? Getting closer. How about that shirtless Kylo Ren joke? Not even a chuckle in either screening I attended.

Flying Leia? Beating a dead horse at this point.

Holdo? Okay, so, she comes out of nowhere, by holding out on telling people about her plan, is the cause for the whole stupid middle of the movie. Then sacrifices herself.

Akbar? Died offscreen. Fan favorite. Was in multiple movies. How about give HIM that scene?

    Poe? Idiot.

Rian Johnson subverting all expectations. People are totally expecting fast ships and exhilarating Chase scenes. Instead, let's just do a slow motion chase. Idiot bad guys.

Bad CGI hurts the prequels? JJ Abrams brings back practical effects. Everyone is happy. But not Rian Johnson. Let's subvert all expectations. Bring back bad CGI!

    Heavy handed politics? Check.

Oh, yeah. Not only is the casino plan a failure it didn't matter because Holdo and Leia had an actual plan that they decided not to tell anyone about. Solid.

Boba Fett didn't have much to do in the original trilogy. He just looked cool! Oh wait... There was that pretty cool 'No disintegrations' line. And he did chase Han Solo across the galaxy. So maybe he did do a little bit. Phasma? Let's hire a strong female actress and give her no lines and nothing to do.

The Emperor? You didn't know his backstory. Why do we need a backstory for Snoke? How about the fact that there weren't seven movies, two TV shows and countless Canon books and comics that made no reference to Snoke? Maybe his backstory isn't important, but not knowing who he is doesn't equal not knowing who the Emperor was.

All that Padawan training? All the getting shocked by purple floating satellite toys or failing to be able to pick up rocks? Not in this Star Wars! Anyone can use Jedi mind tricks or just use the force to grab a broom. We're going to be different!

Finn? JJ creates this really interesting concept about a tortured stormtrooper who changes sides, and Rian makes him a complete coward , then robs him off a possible hero moment when Rose saves him.

    Romance? None!

What makes this a good movie? Lots of color red? A good early space battle? A kinda interesting villain? What else?

    Just a freaking disaster.

And while all of us who think this movie is an insult or too political are chastised, most of us liked the force awakens, rogue one, and were really hoping for the return of Lando.

I personally think the current political climate is the reason reviewers have this a good review. Female dominated, all the white men are awful. There was so much to root for, they forgot that the story sucked.

Give me a a diverse cast and white villains, as in Rogue One or The Force Awakens and include good plotting and character development, and all will be well.

I hate when people say “If you like X movie, you will like anything...” TLJ was an amazing movie and I don’t give a Porg’s bottom if you don’t agree. I LOVE what Rian “tried” to do, even if he did it in a way that many people dislike. He EVOLVED a franchise that needed to catch up to 2018 sagas. He gave Luke DEPTH that Luke did not have before, he gave Kylo DEPTH that Kylo did not have before. He teased us with Snoke, Rey, and Finn and it is frustrating to anyone who thought the story would go a different way. Sit back and enjoy things for what they are instead of pretending you know better. You couldn’t have written a better drama yourself, so grab some popcorn or go watch Gaurdians of the Galaxy.

  • BObby - 6 years ago

Like many of the dejected Star Wars fans across the world, I wanted to express my utter disappointment in the latest rendition of Star Wars.

JJ Abrams did a splendid job in setting up Rian for what could have been a masterpiece, but instead the story was a disaster. Some of the problems include massive plot holes, lack of character development, and a storyline that goes nowhere.

It’s hard to believe Disney executives were satisfied with the finished product of this film (we know the cast was not). While I understand that the critics have given ‘The Last Jedi’ mainly positive reviews, the fans are clearly dissatisfied as Rotten Tomato and other fan reviews have reflected.

Not only was this film easily the worst of all nine movies, it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in a theatre. It’s as if Rian/Disney decided not to acknowledge events in the previous films and instead willfully antagonized the viewer with ridiculous humor, forgettable characters, and unanswered questions.

I urge Disney to listen to the fans. Please do not allow Rian Johnson to destroy the franchise more than he already has by allowing him to direct the next trilogy.

  • Zack D - 6 years ago

A lot of people on Disney’s payroll participating in this survey!

I guess there are people out there who like TLJ? I don’t personally know many of them. In fact, as someone who is a Vintage SW Toy and SW LEGO collector, I hated TLJ so much that I’m refusing to buy anything associated with it. TFA will forever be known as the modern-day “High Water Mark” for Star Wars - it’s pretty much downhill from here on out.

For the first time in my life, I’m questioning my own love of Star Wars. Thanks, TLJ ????

  • Hans Olo - 6 years ago

Loaded Question. Both were very satisfying but each hinges on Episode 9.

  • Spaceballs 2 - 6 years ago

Can we stop pretending like this wasn't an over produced beautiful garbage fire. Great special effects, but not memorable and it convoluted for the sake of masquerading as complexity and subversion. It took chances with all the wrong things. It had no soul. The force was not with this one ! The force awakens ! vs The Force goes to take nap. # Notmyluke

  • Danny - 6 years ago

TFA was so much better in terms of how much more professionally shot it was.J.J. Abrams is a far more superior director and it shows.Rian Johnson had a chance to show what he could with one of the biggest franchises on the planet and I think his final product was premature and hasty. With everything that went explained in TLJ and sacrificing the action scenes for more emotional content.Making us perceive Luke Skywalker in such a non-canonical way..That movie visually stunning but all the content is for the most hideous and cringeworthy all in one fail swoop.TFA is definitely a better movie.

  • Supreme Leader Snoke - 6 years ago

    TLJ was amazing.
And for all you people claiming Luke’s arc was awful and out of character, I have a question for you: do you think people might maybe CHANGE after 30 years?
Also, we’ve been told that we’re getting more Snoke knowledge in IX, so you can’t really complain about that until 9 comes out...

  • T j - 6 years ago

Force awakens is much better than the disaster that was Last Jedi. If you liked last jedi you dont know what a good movie is and will like anything.

  • Collin Cornwell - 6 years ago

TFA was so much better than that disappointing TLJ. Too many plot holes, questions left unanswered, and last but not least...the death of Luke Skywalker.

  • Yousef Al-Waeli - 6 years ago

TLJ is far better than TFA because Rian Johnson took risks where JJ did not, the scene with Holdo and Lightspeed was brilliant, I LOVED Kylo in this film and I liked the arc Luke had! The only disappointment is the answers we wanted for some big questions were answered but they were unsatisfactory, it seemed like Rian Johnson didn’t care about those answers as much as us and he just wanted to make a good film! (And in my opinion he did!)
