Do you think Cook's response to iPhone throttling was appropriate?

I don’t think it merits an apology.

I expect manufacturers to help keep ageing devices working reliably. Managing the power drain to that available from the batteries is a fairly standard approach that anyone familiar with the Mars rovers or other space probes and almost any other autonomous system that has to balance power drain against available juice would be familiar with and fully expect in a device as complex and ‘smart’ as an iPhone.

The only aspect that could be argued should have been done better is being more explicit about the fix and that should have been done by announcing proudly how Apple were incorporating additional intelligence to manage the available power draw. This should have been something celebrated for making the device smart enough to not dumbly crash just because a battery has lost its peak capacity.

This should have been a positive story but by keeping it under wraps, it allowed Apple haters to spin it into a media storm in a tea cup.

It’s th lack of confidence by not saying what they had added proudly which is the only failing. If anything, it’s an apology for not being proud.
