Do you agree with the decision to replace the Dr. Seuss mural at the Springfield Museums?

Every ethnic group in this country is subject to some level of stereotyping, where would we be without the diversity that makes us Americans, keep in mind who we are as a people and how did we became so thin skinned is amazing. We literally “ stole this land”from native “Americans” and somehow the complaining minority is crying foul about a mural, this isn’t the way this country was founded. And my god it’s a children’s book from the 1930s. Shameful

Polical correctness wins out once again and not history. How would the three authors appreciate if their works be censored and scrutinized?!

What I find even more irritating and disturbing is Ciara Speller went on live TV at 5:50pm today and not once but THREE TIMES said the mural was replaced because it was controversial "to many people". Since when does 3 equal many in a city of tens of thousands? This "news" story was intentionally slanted to favor the PC police. Ciara and WWLP should both be ashamed of this poor excuse for what they call journalism. Should have left my remote on FOX TV.

@d. grif, you are so right! Regarding Trump, you hit the nail on the head. He is not afraid to speak his mind and that is refreshing. Everyone is so damned afraid of offending someone or upset about being offended, you have to pick and choose every darned word that comes out of your mouth constantly. It's tiring!!!! People don't get the fact that Trump and most Americans don't have a problem with immigrants, this country was founded on immigration. Hell, Trump has married a couple of them. lol. It is the ILLEGAL immigrants that people have an issue with!!

If people are offended by our history, that black Africans sold their OWN people to white people as slaves, that Asian people eat with chop sticks, that immigrants should work, pay their own way, and get their LEGAL citizenship here in the states, that we celebrate Christmas and say Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays, then THEY are the ones with the problem.

The subjective voice of the few speaking for the many? Not Democratic and pure censorship.

Shame on the Springfield Museums for knuckling under to the pressure of three authors who happened to subjectively evaluate a benign work of children's book illustration. What's next? Take a stroll through the galleries and start evaluating fine art according to modern standards of political correctness.

This is contrary to the mission of Museums which is to objectively display works of artist merit that may not meet the approbation of all.

Shame on the Springfield Museum for buckling under the pressure of the 3 individuals who now have dictated what the mural can consist of. I hope you got their approval you do not want to hurt their feeling again. The majority of people wanted the mural to stay.....but who are we. Very disappointed in this decision. A museum should stimulate thinking not stifle it. Shame, shame, shame.

Why doesn't WWLP state who the three book authors are over the air? I will not be returning to the Springfield Museums. I don't feel a museum should support or encourage censorship.

this is just as ludicrous as the story about the college kids from California last summer saying because someone threw their banana peel behind them/in front of the students walking behind them is was viewed as racist. i have no idea what this world is coming to.

Complete bullshit!!! 3 whiney ass self proclaimed authors from Northampton.. Sad. They offend me..... Remove all their books from the library

  • Dbourc - 6 years ago

So given the poll results showing 99% not agreeing with the mural replacement why doesn't WWLP do a 'story' about this? What are they afraid of? Do they not want Northampton authors 'complaining'??

  • S nagine - 6 years ago

This is so sad. 3 unknown people have changed what a true author expressed in his story. Pay attention to what really matters: city of homes, which should be labeled "city of homicides .". . .address that....truly a disgrace...

  • tom - 6 years ago

you should share results of the poll with viewers I think they should put the original back as dr suess intended

  • A mom ... - 6 years ago

Seriously ?? When that mural was originally done there was not a problem ... it was not intended to be racist and it should not be turned into something racist ... for heavens sake, it's a non issue until someone makes it an issue. Those authors should be ashamed of themselves !!

  • Nick - 6 years ago

Stop! Stop this P.C. Crap! Ot neededover such a minnie subject! Really? Mr. Sarno, GrowcA Pair!!!

  • Thomas LaFleur - 6 years ago

What kind of FOOLISHNESS will be next ??????????

  • tom - 6 years ago

I don't agree with replacing the mural.
But why did someone have to bring Trump into the discussion?
He has nothing to do with this issue.
    That offended me.

  • jimcarn - 6 years ago

It's amazing how much time and energy WWLP has spent on this non-story. Why can't they see by the poll results and the comments that 99.5% of people don't think the original mural was offensive.

  • grandmother - 6 years ago

I will never go back to the Springfield museums. I can't believe they would take that mural down just because of a few authors. Just another piece of history wiped out.

  • Wolfish - 6 years ago

It's a crying shame the world we're living in that we have to rewrite history to make everyone happy. What about the fat policeman/cop in the scene isn't that judgmental against overweight people....just one example. Take care and live and let live today.

I feel it should have stayed the way it was originally. What is the problem of depicting a Chinese man using chopsticks. That is how the Chinese people eat, for crying out loud. That wasn’t racist in any way shape or form. Why is it that Northampton residents have the freedom to say they don’t like something and everyone gets upset and bans things. What hold to northamptonites have over the media and public officials. I happen to not like the colored stripes for a crosswalk in downtown Northampton. It is not the standard color so maybe I don’t have to stop there for foot traffic. I mean if it’s different from the norm it should be banned. I don’t like it when city hall flies a rainbow flag in Holyoke. It’s out of the norm. I don’t like it. Ban it. Don’t even think of calling me a homophobe because if anyone wasn’t a homophobe that would be me. I’m just upset that the Springfield Museum had to bend to two artists who had a bug up their butts and wanted their 15 minutes.

IN THIS POLITICALLY CORRECT SOCIETY THAT WE HAVE PLACED OURSELVES IN, ANYONE CAN FIND ANYTHING TO BE OFFENSIVE FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. BEING OFFENDED BY A CARTOON DRAWING THAT WAS INTENDED BY THE ARTIST AND AUTHOR TO BE A LEARNING TOOL FOR THE CHILDREN READING THE BOOK IN IN AND OF ITSELF OFFENSIVE TO ME. DR. GEISEL WAS NOT MORE A RACIST OR BIGOT THAN WAS THE HERO OF THE DEMOCRATS, TED KENNEDY. I TAKE OFFENSE TO THE POLITICAL AND HOLIER THAT THOU LEFT THAT TRIES TO CONTROL EVERY THOUGHT PROCESS AND EVERY ACTION THAT THEY PERSONALLY DON'T AGREE WITH. THEY DON'T LIKE TRUMP OR ANYTHING THAT HE STANDS FOR BUT AT LEAST HE STANDS FOR SOMETHING, HE STANDS FOR THE TAX PAYING CITIZENS , THE FLAG, OUR MILITARY AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND HE EVEN STANDS FOR THOSE WHOM HE OFFENDS . LIGHTEN UP, LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE UPTIGHT ABOUT EVERY LITTLE TWITCH THAT THAT OFFENDS YOU AND YOUR SOCIALIST BUDDIES.
