Icbc was doing just fine up to the point the government robbed them, now demanding we pay back the money as a consumer. Take away the toll of port man so you can raise the price for the Bc ferries to cover the debt. Rob peter to pay Paul. But don’t pay Paul just tell him to bad. How about capping salaries on employees of government and Icbc

If you are going to keep a cap on claim why do I pay so much for my insurance? High payment and no protection. This is crazy. If you have not been in accident, you have no idea. I was in the accident and it is terrible. After many years you still deal with the pain. It was minor accident and I deal with it 10 years later.

One-size-fits-all is a bad policy in insurance and clothing. The Cap system is the sweat pant of insurance and should never be allowed. Do not let ICBC's false information scare people into bad decisions, ICBC has and is able to again be a profitable entity without stripping people of their rights. ICBC management can and needs to do better.

As many have already said, it is easy to suggest caps on payout if you have neve been hurt in a car accident. I was. Nd my life changed forever. I am already past retirement but still have to work through physical pain and mental exhaustion every day while I wait for a second surgery as the first failed. I cannot generate the income that I could prior to the accident. My medications are expensive and will need them the rest of my life. I can no longs do many of the things I loved. It is all documented. This settlement cannot bring back the life I had but it will allow me to retire finally with some quality of life.

Until you’ve been injured you shouldn’t comment. Try getting rid of some of the over the top execs who make outrageous money and you will be out of debt in no time.

Privatize insurance. Create competition. Super car owners already pay manifold insurance for using the roads less than 100 days a year. Make a rule to not allow powerful cars to be sold to and driven by people under 30.

since 1973 ICBC has made money all but 5 years. Injury settlements are capped already by the supreme court of Canada. Now icbc wants to blame the victims. Lawyers and ICBC can go to hell, but we the people who are hurt shouldn't suffer. Seems like a bunch of idiots at icbc have messed it up in the last few years and they want to blame you, and me, and the rest of your family and friends. Meanwhile the icbc execs are making millions. I call BS. Fox this system so that the victims who are hurt are compensated. Any government that does this will never get my vote. Just brutal. Why run to help people If ur just out to screw them.

They shouldn't cap claims victims shouldn't suffer because of other people. And as far as rates go I do feel that people driving these supercars etc should be paying way more. If someone can spend 500,000 on a car im sure they could spend 20k a year or more for insurance for example so offset insurance properly. Whatever happens the government icbc whomever will get our money one way or another pretty sad the world we live in

Payday? That's daft. Prevent the collision and nothing needs to be paid out. There is an increasing level of complexity with more drivers and more miles driven on the same basic infrastructure. The sinking driver skill level against this backdrop is scary. My wife and one of my daughters were hurt in separate collisions by drivers who had shockingly poor skills. ICBC simply cannot continue to put drivers behind the wheel of 2ton SUVs and expect the rest of us to bear the brunt of the havoc they create. Who wants a payday for being hurt? We just don't want to get hurt!

    “Please Remember British Columbians!”
The next time you go to the polls and want to vote Liberal. This is the government headed by Gordon Campbell and Christie Clark that borrowed from Peter to pay Paul! But yet told us everything was fine! LYING LIBERALS!

Firstly, I thought ICBC was a private corporation so why is the government even involved in it and why does the government allowed to take funds from ICBC. Secondly, what everybody seems forget or not mention is poor management is on icbc's part. They are supposed to be a non-profit organization so they spend the money because they can't show a profit.
Nobody seems to bring that up. And yes, I agree for those that cause accidents should be penalized acvordingly. For those with very expensive Vehicles they should be paying a lot more Insurance than the average person with a cheaper vehicle. E.g. the TESLA. The manufacturer claims if you get into an accident with it - it is not repairable. The vehicle is a write off. So somebody with that type of vehicle should be paying accordingly. Forthly, Maybe it is about time we have competition besides ICBC and I am not speaking of collision and comprehensive but basic insurance.

    That's not good for victims.

Doctor's expert medical reports are very expensive, put a cap on medical reports.

  • james O'Farrell - 6 years ago

Target those who cause accidents with triple rates (at least)

  • kg singh - 6 years ago

raise the rates for the "bad" drivers -do not put ICBC funds into General Revenue ;rates should also be dependant on the amount of km. you drive

Get rid of lawyer based injury claims like rein jury of soft tissue. I am tired of insuring layers as that is what Icbc is doing. Why do they advertise? Answer is because Icbc is a cash cow for legal infustry

ICBC did work well for many years before the Liberal government started pilfering funds from it. The solution to such political malfeasance is not to punish innocent injury victims. Instead of capping so called "minor" injuries (where basically any soft tissue injury of whatever severity is legislatively defined as "minor"), the solution is to penalize bad drivers with a deductible and higher rates. In the short term, since money was hauled out of ICBC and dumped into general revenue, general revenue should be used to stabilize ICBC.

Caps sound great until you’re hurt in an accident through no fault of your own and ICBC, the government, dictates what your injuries are worth!

  • Shelley frank - 6 years ago

Aside from government fingers in the pie they need more investigators cracking down on injury fraud.

  • Steven Lee - 6 years ago

Cracking on bad drivers by making them pay higher rates and deductibles would be far more effective and less cruel.

the liberal government steals 1.3 BILLION dollars from ICBC and the NDP feels obliged to cap claims? how can ICBC be a profitable outfit for more than 40 years then suddenly not work? I say the people running it. Government needs to keep a close watch and keep their fingers out of the pie. caps are wcb for insurance.

You may have noticed that lawyers and Doctors are generally very well paid. That's because if there's big money around they show up like white on rice.
People should learn to drive politely like they do in Richmond. (Check the crash statistics)

When the accident happens to you or your family, and your life is changed because of it, that is when you realize you should not cap at all and leave it the way it is... if you were never hit by another car and hurt then you don’t know the repercussions of even a slight hit to the neck or back.
Please be smart about this and vote NO, we already pay icbc very expensive to be protected so we don’t need to be paying for no protection...

  • Brian w - 6 years ago

I remember back in the days of demolition derbies. Those guys never had whiplash or soft tissue damage. Now a touch of the bumper requires a “blue” collar from the ambulance. Could it be that any accident = big payday for the one hit? This didn’t happen 20 years ago but the demographics have changed and so has our morality.

  • Patricia Beaudry - 6 years ago

I believe that if the YES voters had suffered the injuries that I and others had fron a no fault accident, their votes would be different,we have appointed judges who have the job of deciding what is reasonable compensation, this subject should be left alone.
