Have you turned down or left a job in Nashville because of traffic?

When I needed a job I always found one in my neighborhood, so I wouldn't have to drive on any Interstates or main arteries. When I retired I moved away from Nashville, mainly because of the traffic.

We left because of the cost of housing. The up and coming areas in east Nashville are crazy . We couldn't afford green hills . Franklin was a crazy drive so, we left and have a huge house and don't miss it.

After 15 years of commuting I took a pay cut for a job closer to home. Best decision I ever made. I was spending 10-30 hours a week driving 23 miles. The stress was horrible, dealing with daily accidents, and knowing if my children needed me I couldn’t get to them quickly was enough to put an end to the commute. At one time, Nashville was the only market for some careers, but with the growth in surrounding counties I think more people will be successful finding jobs closer to home.

The ones who commented and Sinclair Nashville traffic is not that bad is delusional. I hope you don't have kids because the I hours you spend in traffic you could be spending quality time with your kids. A pollution that gridlock causes along with the price of gas and wear-and-tear on your vehicle is not worth it. If someone spends an hour plus in traffic they could be productive and work a part-time second job instead of wasting that time.

I commuted for YEARS. I live 30 miles from Nashville. It didn't matter what time i left home i couldn't get to work at the exact time i needed to. Sometimes I'd be 15 minutes late yet i left home 2 hours before 8 am.
Traffic control and parking is a joke. A bad one.
I have taken a job thats part time with no benefits and a lot less money but i can get home in 15 minutes.
City government wants new businesses and developments but until they get a handle on traffic , me and my money will stay out.

Traffic is not the problem, it is the inconsiderate drivers in this city who tailgate, cut off others in turn lanes and are genuine POS people in life who should not be grated a drivers license

I commuted to Nashville everyday for almost 2 years. I live approx 50 miles from my job and I took 24W to work. In the mornings I would leave my house 3 hours early to beat the traffic. In the afternoon it to me approx 3 hours to get home. After spending a lot of my money on so much gas from sitting in traffic so long, I guit my job and work closer to my home town.

    Responding to IEATBUBBLES:
If someone needing to make a left turn gets in a car accident because you waved them on and gave them the okay to cross, you are legally just as responsible as the driver for the accident. This is my understanding. This is why I never stop and leave a gap for those turning left in high traffic areas. I’m not going to risk someone else’s life over “being courteous” according to you. Unfortunately this information isn’t widely known, so most assume people that don’t leave a gap are just being jerks.

People coming here every morning from Rutherford, Wilson, Sumner, Robertson, and Williamson counties lead a boring-enough life that they can afford to sit in traffic two hours a day. Those of us who live and work here have to put up with your crap congestion everyday.
Ya'll are like the Mucinex Mucas guy.
You don't even have the courtesy to stop and leave a space for someone to make a left turn.
You want to hurry up and get in line at the red light.
If I let one of yall turn when you've made the afternoon Dairy Queen stop, you don't even give a friendly wave.
You are disgusting invaders who contribute little more than tearing up our roads.
You buy your coffee, sandwich, and gas in Mt. Juliet every morning, contributing nothing to the upkeep of Davidson county.

We moved to Nashville from another Southern state capital (not Atlanta) with traffic issues that make Nashville look like a Sunday drive in the country.

It seems obvious but a lot of people live too far from their workplaces. It’s worth your sanity & precious time to live nearby. Traffic here is really not that bad compared to most other large US metro areas.
