Team effort and not an individual's skill is needed to win the game.

u play in the Stanley cup to the end-no shoot out-loser way out

No hockey game should be decided by a shoot out, especially an Olympic gold metal game. Basketball wouldn’t be decided by free throws or 3 pointers, baseball wouldn’t be decided by an individual player so why does hockey follow this rule? Hockey is a team sport and the outcome should not be decided by an individual skills competition.
