Of course, I blame the players! They're grown men who know they're committing a crime. We act like it's some Jean Valjean parallel, as if these players are faced with the impossible dilemma -- become a criminal, or starve. Simply not true. The payment these men receive in exchange for playing a sport comes as: free education, free food, free housing, and a forum to showcase their abilities in hopes of playing professionally. The average student pays around 35K/year for the first 3. The above said, I ALSO blame the people who offer the money to these students and believe that they should be severely punished. But, the mere fact that most of us can sympathize with being an undergraduate student who wished he had more money does not negate the criminality of the act.
