Daily Poll: Would you still shop at MEC if it hadn't severed ties with a U.S. gun manufacturer?

Unfortunately, I had to cancel my MEC membership because they will discontinue these brands. I don't believe in censorship, and limiting what we can buy. People who wanted to boycott, could have just chosen not to buy those brands instead of pushing their agendas on other people.

Absolutely ridiculous move by MEC. What has happened to common sense by these CEO’s / owners?

Your question is a bit confusing. It should have been, "Are you going to discontinue shopping at MEC because of their decision not to carry Vista Outdoor products". And of course, I won't be shopping at MEC (probably my favourite store). It is a dangerous precedent, what if activist demand boycotts of people who are pro (or anti) abortionists, pro (or ant) oilsands. My choices, in Canada, are being limited because of political rhetoric and intimidation originating in another frigg'n country (the US). It's ridiculous. I imagine activists may call for a boycott on me next for not agreeing with them, or this paper, or the telephone company... Companies who don't stand up to activist not only empower them, they put us all at risk.

To all my leftist friends: let’s boycott Cummins b/c it made the motor which was used in the semi truck to mow down dozens of people in Europe! It’s called “structure and direction”. Structure is the “thing”; “direction” is how we use it. Pheeewww...have we completely lost our minds?

Another example of tyranny of the minority...wonder what The MEC board thinks of this poll that shows 2/3s don’t think it’s an issue

Ive been a member for over 30 years...I too understand the gun issue...but now a lot of the stuff I had bought there is now being removed...so why would I shop there...should have thought that one out..Im not impressed

I have been a member since MEC was located on Hastings near Woodwards. While I understand the issue with firearms, MEC doesn't sell such items. Conglomerates own numerous companies that make good outdoor equipment other than firearms and are member tested for quality. That testing is MEC's strong point. What happens to those products. Their employees? This is an instance of guilt by association. Yes, I agree the NRA has to reconsider its position.

The Board should have polled its members before making its decision.

Because of their action on Vista Outdoor, I'm severing ties with MEC!
