The Gov,trucking companies and insurance companies have the ultimate tool to controll all of trucking. (Freedom of the road)!? Makes me sick. Glad I'm close to retirement. God help us!

thx to the eld now i can wait an additional 4hrs after i wake to start driving, this allows me to wait for Atlanta rush hr so i can have four hrs driving thru there instead of only 45min & it also allows me to wait for the snow to slick the rd so i can slide off instead of making it home safe. the only winners here are the big company's who can hire more drivers looking for work after they can no longer make a living running there own trucking business. people there is a demonic force that pushes the globalist agenda closer to the last days that if not cut short, there would be no flesh (humans) left. way to go people pushing the evil commie agenda until we are all lined up & shot. i wonder if the ambulance chasing lawyers will enable the surviving members of collateral damage to sue the law maker's ? our creator did not intend for us to be tagged & monitored to the point you'll either accept the id chip our starve. this is anti human, anti american & anti godly . thx a lot you blind evil basterd's, way to go

JJ Keller is the worst eld service available. They never answer phones or reply to emails. The app is constantly crashing. 50/50 chance it will let you recap hours. By far the worst.

The eld I’m using Transflo has been logging me in for 70 hours at a time so no drive time. This eld will then show me in one town that is 45 miles away from where I keep my truck. I have contacted Transflo but I still have not receive a call back and have emailed and there has been no response.

My problem has been with wireless connection all together.1 week I lost connection and when it came back it showed I had worked 734 hours for the week. Called JJ Keller and they had no solution. To the problem.

Been using KeepTrucking app for years as a BYOD Log. Never had a single issue until we purchased 20 ELD units. The updated ELD activated app had a few problems that were quickly updated and corrected. THe Desktop PC system in our office however had multiple issues. Tried to call Customer service and had one line tied up for over an hour on hold, and when we finally got a person to answer? Well you better speak Hindu because their call center is in Dubai India and you cant understand anything they say. It was such a problem that we actually asked them to find us someone who speaks English better. IFTA function never worked properly and we had to threaten to send the whole order back in order to get them to downgrade our service from premium to regular. Several desktop functions required us to look them up on YouTube because no one wanted to call Customer Service again.
The ELD itself and the App work well on an Apple but the app takes over the Android based LG tablets we have, cutting off any other app such as Maps or Truckerpath.
Despite the issues, we’ve had significantly less issues with KeepTruckin than any other ELD we’ve tested this year but you are better off looking to Google to fix problems than KeepTruckin Customer Service.

There is no leeway in time need to change the 14 to drive and on duty time only be able to split times in my opinion this is a unsafe and disaster the way it is setup now

ELD Mandate must have been made up by people that don't drive trucks for a living.
It is unbelievable people at the top who make huge bucks and have the best health insurance dare to
even think they know what a truck driver knows. What a way to wreck a good thing. Thanks again govt.
Being told when to sleep and when to drive interferes in my rights as a citizen.

We spend 72% of our time off road in the oilfields and wind farms. We don't have a lot of highway time, but because of the Year of the vehicle, we have to have this ELD crap and we are farther than 150 miles from the terminal and go across state lines. FEDS really had this figured out when they implemented this. I see a lot of people are shutting down and saying they have had enough. That is what the big companies were wanting, they wanted the "playing field leveled". They want the mom and pop companies out of the picture. Big company safety ratings are in the toilet. They cant compete with the REAL truck drivers of this GREAT nation. Maybe, just maybe, they need to train their drivers to be competent and to dress professionally for the job, instead of kicking them out the door in 3 weeks and letting them drive and show up to job sites in pajamas and sandals. Ive been doing this for 35 years now and I am totally disgusted with the laziness of the NEW AGE DRIVER. No more transport specialists, just whiny children.

Getting out of Intermodal Container trucking. The ports / congestion/ traffic infrastructure getting to the ports and once out is at an all time high. Chassis shortage has gotten out of hand. Many of my professional driver colleagues are also just moving on. The import/export drayage industry with ELD's just is not worth the time anymore working a 65 to 70 hour max work week and I'm still seeing my wages cut in half to the point flipping burgers might be an option- far less stress and less overhead considering I'm an owner/op.

  • Billie Thomas - 6 years ago

Does not keep track of miles correctly. It's consistently 38% off, which throws off the truck speed info on the Fleet Manager part of the website. It shows the truck is running 80 mph when it is going 65 mph. I have called and emailed the techs and explained to them that the app is seeing the vehicle speed data sent to the app from the dongle as kilometers per hour and recalculating it into mph. The dongle is sending mph and it doesn't need to be recalculated. They keep telling me it will be fixed in the next update. LOL.

Can you please send these comments to any legislative body that will listen?

ELD changes duty status without driver input. I could be sleeping, it switches to driving. I switch previous day's off duty time to reflect when I went into the sleeper berth. Only half of that time makes it to sleeper. Other half in now logged as "on duty". Manufacture is absolutely terrible at giving a reasonable answer/fix to the problem.....and customer support is absolutely terrible. This is an absolutely miserable profession to be in anymore. The constant anxiety of worrying over the possibility of getting pulled over and going to jail over some piece of crap electronic device that is malfunctioning.

Carriers are eliminating human contact with drivers. I spend hours trying to contact dispatch when there is a problem with equipment, shippers, receivers and any other problem. Often never getting a response. Often have connectivity problems, can't get into different parameters (locking screen) and inaccurate travel times and GPS problems. Long time booting up, doesn't work if truck is off. I spend long periods of my personal time (10 hour off duty).

Went with a well known, highly regarded company and spent a ton of money getting units that were hardwired to the ECM/JBUS ports. The ELD units were constantly having communications issues with the trucks and giving errors. They were not changing duty status correctly and were giving false mileage readings. The turn by turn GPS that was included was so bad it was actually funny. it couldn't be counted on to get the driver around the block, much less across the country. On top of all that customer service was the biggest joke I have ever seen. The go to answer was replace the unit, and it took them weeks or months to provide replacement hardware.

So we scrapped them and pulled them out of the trucks on December 17th, 2017.

Since then I have located another system and provider. We are all set on go, except that the major telecom is dragging their feet in getting the required paperwork to us and then to who it needs to go to within their company and have had to change hardware providers since we signed up and doesn't have it in stock at this time anyway.

I am not impressed with any of this so far, and even if I try to step back and look at the "big picture" at this point I can't see the benefit(s) of ELD's outweighing the PITA trying to find a good system that works, the additional expense generated to the carrier by even the most reasonably priced ones, much less the more expensive ones, not to mention the loss of productivity that we are hearing about across the board.

  • Sam - 6 years ago

We use the PeopleNet system. There is a truck in our shop every day with ELD-related hardware failure. Typical components with high failure rate are OBC's and antennas. Also, connection to network is interrupted regularly (2 to 3 times per week for some drivers

I have been hit by lightning multiple times.regardless of which unit, I lose connectivity a lot.I drive in regions that are not geofenced properly.( Texas) and in states like Oklahoma with limited cell phone coverage. I travel to military installations where signals are blocked and the recreation is awful.. It should be a documented fix for violations..no " return to home location within 8 days garbage".all coding should be identical, devices should use same wording for malfunctions etc and devices should be one type.( financial damages should not be assessed when you pay thousands for a good device and it fails to work")( same as a cheap one,its not proprietary info.) Just standardize them so one size fits all.

  • Shannon - 6 years ago

ELD looses connection with cell towers and wont reconnect. Once reconnected, works fine. The other problem is engineers and CSR's don't know the trucking industry to know what info is needed for reporting or why it is important.

  • Marti L McClain - 6 years ago

ELD has caused issues with ecm. Also caused drop in fuel mileage from 6.5 mpg to only 3 mpg. Yes, I have proven it was the ELD by unplugging it, and showing how when it's plugged in my fuel mileage drops instantly, and when it's unplugged it goes back to normal instantly. Company refuses to replace or fix unit. It also constantly quits working, and has to be restarted while I'm driving. Yeah, real safe!!

The eld freezes up loses Bluetooth connection doesn’t switch over to driving when you start driving, when I call the provider to get it fixed they want to blame my device so l switched to another device and still have problems

    Inaccuracy!!
I had Jan 8 for 4 days, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Messaged customer service, they fixed it.
While I was at home, logged off, truck sitting in driveway, ELD showed I drove 72 hours straight without stopping!
It has caused the check engine light to come on.
It mixes days...I started my week at home, did my route for Monday, took my sleeper break, next morning I get up, go off duty while I shower. Get back in truck, on duty Pretrip, sign my Monday log, take off on my stops for the day. Tuesday night I check my violations. ??? Hmm, Monday morning I was on duty where I spent Monday night, I started driving from home 220 miles away a hour later ????(you ought to watch me light the after burner!!!) At my first drop Monday I was back where I spent Monday night, started driving, it was from my actual drop location, the ELD mixed Monday and Tuesday together. I called customer service and was told that I could not change it. I need to put my location, miles and time in the comments! AND keep a paper log! Really?? How about we eliminate one waste of time and just keep a paper log!
The app locked up, I uninstalled the app. I reinstalled the app. Need to sign in...CDL already in use...uninstall, reinstall, sign in, fail times 3! Paper logs here I go.
I have a set routine, I do the same basic schedule every 28 days! I work 16 days out of 28 days, rarely more than 12 hours a day. I can send a schedule saying where I am going to be for the next 28 days with very few alterations for the next year! ELD is a waste of time for me!

Turned in all my plates and calling it quits. With the elogs profit has gone down. My drivers on paper had no issues and we would get 5-6 loads a week. Now we are lucky to get 4. The big companies are putting all the little guys out and the shippers and receivers should be penalized for making you wait all day. Then when the load is on truck a broker says go on they will unload you “we have it taken care of” and when you get there the receiver knows nothing about it then you are stuck with a load. Wish the people in Washington would think before they do.

Using the Garmin E Log adapter on a 2005 Freightliner. The biggest issue is that the adapter loses connection when I start the truck because the voltage is pulled low enough that the protection circuit cuts off the accessories and that creates a communication fault that is recorded. It also has problems capturing vehicle speed data and possibly fault codes. One last thing, it sometimes does and does not connect with the app in my phone requiring me to reset the Bluetooth connections and also doesn't sync with the Garmin 750 GPS. I have contacted Garmin about the problems but haven't heard back from them about a fix, though they did admit that they have been running into problems with the older trucks. I plan on talking with Garmin more about the issue before I condemn it.

I have 2 trucks with them. 2 without. Trucks with them are not making delivery times. Low low profit margin! Crabby and broke drivers! Other two trucks are doing great! (1999 trucks) Happy drivers (not tired) and profitable! Eld’s kill!

  • Alex - 6 years ago

ELD interferes with ecm, motor peformance, gauges. The unit uses cell towers for data and does not track via GPS (not complaint with rule)
    Unit is an omnitrac.

Missing appointments by "just that much" due to unavoidable circumstances. Puts trucks days behind, completely undermines and disrupts normal business routes we have ran for 10 plus years without incident. 7 truck fleet. Very good CSA score.

  • Mike shina - 6 years ago

ELD s force you to drive when you don’t want to and, force you to sleep when you can’t. Talk about a violation of circadian rhythm !!! I lose 15 hours per week minimum sitting in docks

  • Mike Strange - 6 years ago

ECM plug-in comes loose and loses connectivity.

  • Michelle - 6 years ago

Eld is failing to upload data to be real time. Waiting on a the new eld unit to see if that fixes the problem.

  • J - 6 years ago

Mainly other drivers not doing their crap right connecting to different trucks they drive so it had unassigned driving on them. Got to a big enough point we swapped ELD companies. So now get to learn a whole new system and listen to everybody whine about their own mistakes while trying to blame the ELD.

Using the VDO Roadlog in 2 trucks with 2 different drivers. One of them has been rock solid while the other is having issues with the touch screen locking up. When this happens it means the current driver can't go off duty or log out and the other driver can't log in. After a long session of troubleshooting over the phone last Thursday with our IT person involved they have agreed it could be a faulty unit and are sending a replacement. We'll see!
