Poll: Do you support legislation that would pay to train and arm teachers?

Teachers already aren't being paid enough to teach! Paying them an extra few dollars to also act as school security, is about as stupid as you can get! Let's work on legislation that provides funds for classroom supplies or providing art and music classes in the schools. When our kids' schools become hardened, armed facilities, we no longer have an educational system.

Just since Parkland, there have been at least four armed-teachers accidental discharges in classrooms with students (Utah, Idaho, Georgia, California). Fortunately, no students were injured or killed by these teachers doing exactly what conservatives want to happen. Four times armed teachers were potential threats to their own students. Not once in the same time frame has an armed teacher saved a student from a school shooter.

    @TN Teacher
I watch news and read articles all day long from liberal and conservative sources. NOT ONE of them has said anything about FORCING teachers to go armed. You should be teaching at all times unless a some nut with a gun or knife is roaming the halls. There are teachers with military/law enforcement experience, well qualified with firearms that are more than capable of defending you and the students since you seem adamantly opposed to defending yourself so others must do it for you. I am also well aware of the NEA and your tenures. The NEA collects those union dues and sends them EXCLUSIVELY to the Democrat Party to elect socialists to make sure you get your raises and socialist agenda in the schools. The NEA has lobbyists to pay the politicians the same way the NRA does and it is all just part of our totally corrupt political system.

FYI, I’m 30k in debt after going to school to become a teacher. Remember teachers don’t make an insane amount of money. How about ask teachers what they think? If teachers don’t want guns, then it shouldn’t be forced. The NEA is against this and for good reasons. When should we focus on teaching?! In between all the data driven instruction/testing because the public needs to see numbers constantly or when we are trying to do the job of a security guard or police officer?

Scrape the $9-15 plus BILLION dollar mass transit plan, which will not reduce our traffic problems , will have pleny of money for the training. Notice how they phrase the poll questions on issues they don't favor with "will you be willing to pay for it" and the polls on issues they favor like the mass transit one they phrase those such as "how long your is your commute ...2 hrs...1.5 hrs..." with no mention of how much will the people be willing to pay for it. The May vote can't come fast enough for me! Vote NO for transit plan.

Let teachers continue teaching the three "R" and hire security people and equipment to protect our children.

The liberal solution is to place restrictions on people who have absolutely nothing to do with mass shootings. Forcibly take guns from good guys, and the bads guys will surrender them voluntarily out of the goodness of their hearts.

    Liberal logic.

The only firearms that should be legal are 6 shooter revolvers and single shot shotguns.

If you can't defend your home with a shotgun, then you really don't need anything semiautomatic.

Or we should repeal and replace the 2nd amendment and let the fear mongers go back to Europe or where ever they came from.

This is in addition i would xtra taxes whatever to pay for their training guns. Our kids are important then money !!!!

  • Donna - 6 years ago

I do believe they should be armed if they so desire but definitely not forced. And with prior military law enforcement exp and continued training. If theres someone whos armed and trained kids will have better chance to survive and get out

I think we should take all guns away from law-abiding citizens, and tell the nutwhacks and criminals that they should be really good from now on. I learned this policy from Eminem, one of the leading scholars on gun cause and effect and the Second Amendment. He also told that an assault rifle is any gun that looks really scary and is seen in video games.

Why should tax payers have to pay for their training? Im all in favor of the teachers being allowed to take a permit test on their own dime and carry if they so choose but I dont think its quite fair they get paid training just because they are teachers. What about the thousands of clerks at stores who get robbed and shot at daily? Pay for them as well? Children dying is horrible, but keep in mind their are in some cases children who work at conveniance stores and retail stores who are just as at risk. Are the tax payers going to foot the bill for these people as well? Simple fix, if you have a permit that you paid for, pass legistlation prohibiting businesses (like schools) from stopping you from carrying while at work. It seems fair to me.

  • NO!!! - 6 years ago

Whenever I see children and pay in an article I immediately think NO! Just get rid of the ILLEGALS, 2nd language teachers, free stuff for people who shouldn't even be in this country and there is more than enough funds to pay for the arming of teachers. Chain migration, DACA, lottery immigration, H1 Visas to hire cheap overseas labor, and overstayed Visas. It is endless what we spend on this socialist/communist Democrat destruction of our nation and I say not one penny more for this tyranny.

I'm all for arming faculty but not paying for the permit and firearm.
