Hello TCPalm, Im wondering if this poll was also "hijacked" as was stated for the poll about whether or not people were in favor of banning "assault weapons". I completely understand & agree that this is not a scientific poll but it gives you a clear idea. I would think you would want as much varied participation as possible to gain a clear perspective of there the issue is headed. Even eliminating a hypothetical 50% of the votes because of idiots like the one you mentioned bragged about voting 50 times in incognito mode you can still clearly see an overwhelming trend, just as in this poll, in favor of gun rights not on gun control. And that should not & cannot be ignored.

IF THE GOVERNMENT EVER TRIES TO TAKE GUNS FROM THE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, I AM AFRAID THERE WILL BE BLOOD BATH. TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WILL NEVER GIVE THEM UP.

The idea to repel the Second Amendment shows why we have term limits for Justices such as former Justice Stevens due to their age and diminishing faculties.
There is a reason the framers of the Constitution placed this Amendment as the Second; they saw the need for citizens to protect themselves and the country whether at home or outside their homes. Of course they did not know what type of weapons would come, no more than they saw a need to protect people from a drug crazed person driving a car with a cell phone in their hand. To even float this idea is clear evidence some people should stay retired and quiet.
We have Background Checks and registries but maybe the local & Federal policing agencies need to do a better job getting people with mental problems off the streets and out of harms way before they become killers?

The second amendment should be to allow guns in homes only, for their safety and protection. Guns on the streets are the problem. Guns kill people and people have guns, thanks to the $$$$ NRA. Take them off the streets with penalties for those who carry them other than Police and Security persons. Make the streets safe and not like the Wild, wild west used to be. The UK does not allow guns on their streets and neither does Canada. Why us? $$$$$ money from gun sales for the NRA. A big idea that needs much support. Hunters can have a special permit to hunt with rifles.

The 2nd amendment protects all of us! Repeal of the Amendment would encourage exacerbation of criminals big time!

  • LMM - 6 years ago

The 2nd Amendment was added shortly after the Revolutionary War which was fresh in everyones minds. How would the war have gone if the British banned firearms from the colonies? The answer is: we would be singing God Save the Queen. We could have never fought and won our freedom from British oppression had there been a ban on guns. Whoever has the weapons has the power, let's not forget this. If we disarm our citizens, the federal government can continue to take away our freedom's until we are no longer free. Does anyone trust POTUS? The senate? Congress? You'd be pretty naive if you said yes, we have the most power hungry and corrupt government in our history and it has been getting progressively worse over the past few decades. Our children or grandchildren may need to fight for their freedom one day, do we deny them those tools or allow them to be taken like lambs to the slaughter?
One further point, we are much more vulnerable to attack by foreign entities with centralized armed forces. It is infinitely more difficult to fight against millions of armed residents than an army that's easy to track. Don't think for a second that our enemies aren't influencing public opinion to remove our ability to defend ourselves. We would be much easier to conquer. Let's be a wise people and attack the problem of behavior and not the tools of bad behavior. If removing those tools would actually work in reducing crime, you have my permission to remove spoons and forks to fight he obesity epidemic.

I honestly think the first amendment should be repealed. No more hate speech from those transphobic Nazis and cis-white people. #RESIST! REPEAL THE FIRST!

  • Will Brown - 6 years ago

Did we forget what "inalienable" means?

The first ten amendments are the Bill of Rights, enumerated and inalienable- when one is restricted, they all fall.

I vote this to be your next poll question:

    Does chili have beans?

    Yes
    No

  • D Degette - 6 years ago

If you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won't be any more available

  • Rick - 6 years ago

The Constitution does not GRANT those rights, it simply acknowledges that they exist and that government has no power to infringe on those rights. They are basic human rights. Repeal of the 2nd would not remove our human right to self defense.
The mere fact that the people at this paper do not understand that, speaks volumes for how the education system in this country has failed so many when it comes to understanding fundamental principles about the country they live in, and the government we have. Very, very sad.

Totally NOT voting from outside the local viewing area. For real. All those YES votes totally are though. You should investigate that skewing of the 100% support of the United States Constitution.

What other parts of the Constitution would you like to destroy? All in the name of public safety of course. People will kill with any tool available to them. Maybe we should ban truck rentals...

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your poll gave me cancer anyway.

The right to keep and bear arms, and the right to defend oneself with arms, is a natural right. The talons of the Eagle and the teeth of the Tiger are provided by mother nature. As we have no talons, and no teeth worthy of calling a weapon, we arm ourselves with the creations of our hands: clubs, knives, swords, and firearms. The right to all of these is given to us by nature, and the 2nd Amendment serves only to reaffirm this right. To repeal the 2nd Amendment is to repeal the right to self defense and, by extension, the right to life.

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.

  • CD - 6 years ago

It doesn't matter if it's repealed or not, or even if the whole damn thing was thrown out the window. The second amendment doesn't actually give us anything. It recognizes a pre-existing natural right that is beyond the scope of regulation.

  • Jesse - 6 years ago

    Shall not be infringed

  • E191 - 6 years ago

The best part is the right of the people and shall not be infringed were quoted. What part do they not get about that? Maybe if medicated liberals stopped shooting everyone 87 times a year this would be a non issue, but the rabid left can't seem to help themselves.

"We will use the youth to bring order to the Reich. When we control our youth, we will control the German people" - Adolph Hitler, 1939
When you lose the 2nd Amendment then you lose the 1st Amendment. Look at Europe right now. You can be fined or imprisoned for anything they declare is offensive speech.

  • I love 2A - 6 years ago

It’s so much easier for the left to blame the gun instead of the laundry list of failures that contribute to gun violence. Do you really think that abolishing the 2A will prevent criminals from obtaining firearms illegally?
You want to trust a government that protects illegal aliens more than Amaerican citizens to decide what is best for American citizens? No thank you.

The validity of the concern about the rise of dictatorships from within democratic governments is not outdated. The presence of the internet, airplanes, and other 21st century technology does not make a government less likely to develop dictatorial behaviors.

It's perfectly possible that in a few decades the US government could start opening concentration camps for ethnic and religious minorities and political disidents. And if that ever happens, that's when the AR15s start coming out, because that's what the 2nd Amendment was made for.

Let's ban the third, too. After all, it was only meant for the housing of British Redcoats. How could the founders have ever known how important it would be to for the government to require federal troops in your home to make the children safe from dangerous thought crimes and the ownership of dangerous weapons.

You could suspend the fourth, too and make it so you can be searched for weapons by said troops when leaving your home.

  • JPA - 6 years ago

If it is believed that the 2nd amendment is outdated, doesn't make them all outdated? Let's start at the beginning, the 1st amendment , and amend all of the constitution.
We all know when the 1st was written the news was shouted out at the town center. When it was written, the authors had no idea that sometime there would be a WWW and smart phones that could send video across the world.
They also had know idea there would be automobiles and children texting while driving and dying at a rate of 9-11 kids per day. That's approximately 3650 kids per year, much more than those killed in school shootings. I say we amend the 1st amendment , it's too dangerous as written. We need to ban phones that text. To quote the people who want to ban certain guns and magazines...why does anyone "need" a phone that can text in automatic and manual modes, act as a tool to cyber bullying kids until they commit suicide? There death phones...ban them!
