The Bible was taken out of schools 50 years ago. 40 years ago video games started. Now, killing and violence is a part of video games. It’s not guns that are the problem, it’s the values of our society. People drive over the speed limit, run red lights and stop signs. If we can get away with something, we try it. There is a progression of wrong doings. Laws are enacted because we do not have the self control and restraints necessary to do what is right. Arming responsible adults in the education arena is the next logical step. We as a society are ‘asking’ for this scenario. Until we return to a Judeo Christian form of ethics we can only expect further escalation of the lawless actions. These actions will range from simple actions such as rolling through stop signs to mass school shootings. People, we all are the problem. Lack of consistent values and seeking self gratification is leading us down a dangerous path. At some point we will need to relinquish our own personal desires and goals for the greater good of our society. Yield to a higher source of ethics and integrity. The time that wil take is, well, up to us.

The day that the teachers start carrying guns in school is the day I start homeschooling my three kids or finding a school where teachers aren’t carrying guns. Why don’t Republicans start doing something productive like funding education and making it harder for the wrong people to get their hands on these weapons of mass destruction in the first place? These Republicans all need to be replaced in the midterms and in 2020 by legislators who aren’t being bankrolled by the NRA. Let’s start putting our children and educators first. JD Mesnard can be one of the first to lose his seat.

NO!!! If that’s what you want to do then have a guard at the Church, a guard at the grocery store guard all over the malls inside and out Police walking the sidewalks, at the coffee shops why do you think a sick person is only going to go to a school! What about the Utube office in CA guards with guns all over you don’t know where bit will be next what about a driver cut off in traffic pulls a gun and shoots into the car and hits a child where does it end!?????????????????

Absolutely no armed teachers! There are better ways to protect our children. Initiating thorough back checks, stricter rules for gun shows, and requiring all gun show sales be back ground checked, are just 3 way.

This is the most ridiculous and stupid idea they can come up with. They don’t allow weapons in their own buildings but it’s ok to ask teachers to carry weapons around children, those who they are supposed to be teaching, not guarding. And how do they plan on securing those weapons so the students can’t get to them? Keep them locked up? Where, in the classroom? Do they expect a teacher, untrained to be able to get to their locked up firearm, unlock it and be prepared to exchange gunfire with someone and NOT hit a student or another teacher, also armed? How about our legislators climb out of the NRA’s pocket and make it harder to obtain weapons in the first place. If they are going to allow teachers to be armed, then weapons need to be allowed in the legislative buildings too. After all, won’t they feel safer knowing everyone has a gun while they are voting?

I think there should be at least two teachers on site who know how to protect the kids with the proper training.

Arizona teachers don't get paid enough to do their jobs which is teaching not being armed guards. Do you really think it's a good idea to burden them with the extra stress and responsibility of carrying a firearm? It's a ridiculous idea. If all levels of government were doing their jobs there would not be so many murders in this country but politicians put themselves before the people they are supposed to be serving.

I am a retired educator.. 38 years of experience. I think teachers are trained to teach not be armed security guards. If the state want armed protection find the money to add trained security staff.

We do not want to live nor do we want our children to live in a police state. This is the land of the free. Teachers should be focused on teaching. Politicians need to legislate arms control. These are the humane directions.

No they are teachers not cops let them do there job

Teachers are hired to teach, not to be armed guards. Unless you’ve actually taught in a classroom, you have no clue about the duties of a teacher in an emergency. Specifically in an elementary school, you can’t just leave a room full of children by themselves to go searching for an active shooter. Lawmakers need to spend some time in our classrooms to see what actually goes on rather than making uneducated decisions!

More than armed people in schools we need to do away with all of the kill everything in site games kids are obsessed with

There are qualified retired law enforcement officers far more able to carry a gun in the schools. Uniform them, open carry, only one or two to a school depending on size. Keep duties separate from regular school security. I have 21 years in police work and 7 years in school security. That’s what I’m basing my opinion on. Teachers for the most part have a different mind set than a trained officer.

Why don’t he put more time and effort
On giving teachers raises and getting a better educational system. Instead of arming teachers having any sort of guns at school can only cause more problems. Duecy ran on making education his number one priority but like most politicians he only said it to get elected. What has he done for the teachers especially they are leaving our state because they can’t afford to work here I hope he reads this and thinks about what he’s not doing for our schools.

If the teachers & other staff members of a school are willing to be the protectors of our children & themselves, then by all means they should have the option of choosing to do so. Another big problem that needs to be addressed that no one seems to be addressing & appears to be being swept under the rug is BULLYING!!!! It needs to be stopped immediately. Is it any wonder our children who are bullying victims retaliate against the other students??

Dumbest idea teachers have enough to do. Are they gonna get law enforcement pay to play cop also. I don't think so.

  • Stephen Murphy - 6 years ago

Those that are comfortable with a gun, I say yes. But we really want teachers not guards.

  • Peggy King - 6 years ago

Why not use National Guard instead of putting them at the border

  • Darren - 6 years ago

So long as they have proper training I am all for it.

  • Chris - 6 years ago

If you remove the option for teachers to defend themselves and their students, you’ve effectively created a killing field. Don’t make it mandatory, but leave the option on the table.

Eliminate school Gun Free Murder Zones and the problem will solve itself.

  • Gerry Land - 6 years ago

Train willing teachers etc well after mental evaluation, many hours of training. Or have retired police or vets trained and ion campus. Why have armed security at concerts, sporting events, that children attend and then turn around and say there should be no armed security at their schools? We need to protect our precious children, not leave them defenseless! Wish it were a different reality but this is the society we live in! Mental health issues need to be addressed. Red Flag legislation needs to be passed! FL tragedy could have been averted if sheriff and FBI had intervened!
