Straws are sometimes needed for certain drinks, ie milkshakes and smoothies. Why not use paper straws? We had them around when we were kids. Make them biodegradable too, there is way too much plastic in the environment as it is. Reusable straws are a possibility, but may need special equipment to sanitize them to reuse in the case of restaurants.

Why not switch to paper straws? We used to have paper straws that can be recycled. They are a lot better now too.

Yes! Anyone informed in anyway about plastics in the oceans should support this move. However, paper straws should be available. Currently in Hawaii where the relationship with the ocean is very real and here plastic bags of the grocery store variety and plastic straws are banned. They do provide paper bags and paper straws.

Anything to help the environment. There are other options such as bio degradable straws. Some people prefer straws for sanitary purposes so this is a good option.

I support all initiatives to reduce and eventually eliminate plastic trash. However, it should be noted that disposable straws can be produced with other raw materials which are biodegradable, even compostable. Straws are particularly nice for thick beverages such as smoothies and shakes. At home we have reusable stainless steel ones...they work well.
