What should local governments do with municipal golf courses?

Snowbirds come to fort Pierce and Hutchinson Island and play golf at the PUBLIC COURSES! They also spend a lot of money in our restaurants, theaters, grocery stores, specialty stores, bars, gas stations, museums, etc.
They will go to other areas of Florida with public golf courses, if ours are shut down. Please, look at the BIG picture for this recreational amenity.

Like just about every other governmental body, obviously the city/county/municipality golf courses are losing more money than the revenue they are bringing in. Hey government...here's how it's supposed to work. You only spend as much money as you have coming in for maintenance, expenses, salaries, etc. If you can't do that then there are only two options. 1) Charge more than you are currently charging or 2) Close your doors and stop the bleeding. It's really quite simple and it's the way "business" works. You don't need to be a profit center but you do need to be able to pay your way and break even.

Compaired to most recreation activities like kids sports and adult entertainment, I think you will find golf pay for itself pretty well. If municipal golf courses start shutting down you can be sure lot of folks will go where golfers are appreciated. Port St Lucie has lost millions trying to attract jobs and has failed! While golf in this area has been a mainstay to the economy. Beaches and golf bring most folks into the Treasurer Coast. There are many private courses that stay in the same cost bracket as municipal courses, If they can do it and our taxes are benefiting everyone it should be handled like ballfields, parks and beaches. Compaire the number of golfers dollars to municipal sponsored sports and other activities and see who spends more dollars at these other recreational facilities. If dollars are all we are looking at shut down all municipal activities that don't pay for themselves, lay off half of municipal employee make all recreation activies pay for them selves or don't offer them! Easy fix right?
In closing I think municipal golf is a service provided by the local government like most other services and it is not a profit center, thank you
