Is this really news?? God this world is fucked up. First-world "problems", first-world dramas.

This is getting a bit ridiculous and tiresome. Leave her alone unless she's holding up signs spouting off indignities against the Asian race/culture. Those who scream appropriation need to rethink the next time they eat Chinese food and aren't Asian. See how infantile it's becoming? We can't even enjoy sharing each other's culture without getting our feelings hurt. Don't become guilty of the same thing you hate: racism. Learn from, love and care for each other.

The iconic Cowichan sweater is worn around the world sporting local first nations art. These are made for the purpose of resale to whoever wants to pay the price. I'm guessing that this dress was bought retail and not looted from some Asian museum somewhere.
It's a beautiful dress. Let the kid alone.

people need to take a step back and relax a little. a case could be made for every single piece of clothing out there. Berets; only people from France should wear. Kilts-Scottish and Irish, sarongs ; goes without saying, parkas; unless you are from the Arctic. Denim+ sorry you are not American and this could go on.

Afraid that the next wave will see people being offended by appropriation of pizza, wonton soup, curries, French toast, poutine , French fries, coffee, tea, vodka to name a few. Lets also not forget about the appropriation of tattoos. need I go on.?

maybe all these people claiming cultural appropriation should think very carefully before making claims. especially if they are wearing jeans. That particular garment was created for prisoners and miners by an American company. Ergo, if going by these people who claim to be offended by other culture wearing their garment, you have no rights wearing jeans as a) you are not american, b) you are not a miner or a prisoner.

tell you what...I will stop wearing any garment claimed by any other cultures out there if you stop wearing jeans! Deal?

People should stop trying to build new walls between cultures, religions and races. I’m of European background and I’m honoured if someone wants to mimick any part of my culture especially if it’s done in good taste as this young girl did celebrating her graduation.
Shame on the people who want to conquer and divide!

Western culture has more emphasis on difference rather than similarities. Another view could be that all the girls were simply wearing dresses not different dresses.
This issue is a product of what spin the educational, religious, business and media industries put on it and that is how and what the children will learn.

Fashion should be left out of appropriation issues. Religious or ceremonial clothing yes, daily Fashion, no.

It's not like she is wearing it for Halloween or as a costume.
