Cormorants And Angling

When I was younger I never thought I would see the day when I would condone the shooting of any bird but the numbers and persistence of cormorants on many of the waters I fish have changed my view on this. Leaving it to nature to sort out is just not an option because the cause is not natural: Our seas have been plundered beyond what nature can deal with. Cormorants are proving more successful in adapting to the loss of their normal food source, species like puffins are in dramatic decline. Until we can reverse the appalling practices of factory trawlers we will not be able to reduce the number of cormorants that make fresh water fish their primary food source other than by selective culls.
