Why routine thrombus aspiration is prohibited in STEMI ?
Though thrombus is the culprit in many , the accompanying lesions could be complex and aspiration could be detrimental.
I agree with the statement . It is prohibited ,because certain high profile studies clearly told us not to so !
The word "routine" is the issue that is causing confusion. One may still use it as and when we decide its required.
Thrombus aspiration will be useful in many. I use it liberally.In fact , it could negate the need for stent in many especially young patients who has exclusive thrombotic STEMI.
The messages from TOTAL, TASTE is deliberately twisted to convey a meaning that routine thrombus could be a evil thing. It is not. The reasons as I would see is non academic .Routine thrombus aspiration could dramatically bring down the stent usage and would cause heavy damage to the global metal cartel.
