My vote would be fairy as a slur because it’s not as close to the actual word, like they are intentionally using the way it’s spelled in pop culture, instead of the slightly more accurate spelling. Seems like fairy would be even less respectful than faerie hehe. But as far as reading it, no idea if that’s something people catch onto or not.
