Does this Evgeni Malkin hit warrant a suspension?

Deserve suspension? He did not even deserve a penalty. Oshie initiated the contact. I never seen an instance where the player being checked gets a penalty unless he uses his stick. Malkin simply prepared for the contact. Oshie should have gotten the penalty for trying to run Malkin with late check from behind. What happens if Oshie decides to run the half wall, they going to give the boards a game misconduct. That was completely bogus.

If anyone should be suspended its oshie for diving. Malkin braced to protect himself for contact never left feet and didnt initiate contact. I hope someone actually does take his head off after acting like a little girl!!!!

Not defending either player. Malkin is pretty tall. He is bracing for contact but also thrusting his shoulder as one would do in an instant you sense someone wanting to hit you. T.J.'s head is about Malkin's shoulder height, so that definitely did not help his position in this case. If it were an elbow that came up, way different. Give Evgeni 2 games to send a message to the league.
It was a great hockey game nonetheless.

Okay so I was actually at the game last night and I saw the hit and it was pretty brutal and it was very clear to me that Malkin knew Oshie was coming so he just put his shoulder down and hit him which is ILLEGAL and he should get a suspension since Tom Wilson did something very similar in September and he got 20 games because the NHL is trying to reduce head injuries so the same should apply to Malkin.

Oshie wasn't even going to hit Malkin. He was going to skate around him and go after the puck. Malkin deliberately changed direction and lowered his shoulder and hit oshie in the head. He needs to get a suspension.

This was the most ridiculous call I have seen. How does a puck carrier get a targeting call heading into the offensive zone? So he tucked up to protect himself who wouldn't? The NHL needs to get a handle on things they let the most obvious calls slide and hang an innocent man so stupid!!

If you ever want to stop head shots, make it that your responsible for the initial point of contact. A shot to the head and you get a major, a game misconduct, automatic game suspension and loss of pay. You won't see so many after a few lose the MONEY!

Not sure what you idiots are watching but the only thing I see Malkin do is at the very end bring his arm up in a defensive move to absorb the hit coming. Every angle you look malkin did not alter his course or do anything to target his head. Oshie led with his face right into malkin's el bow area. It really baffles me as to what Oshie was doing. I like Oshie. Always have but he clearly was out of position and I think was not expecting malkin to still be in front of him. I think he misjudged malkin's speed into the zone and awkwardly was still skating with head in front AND ran into malkin. This was not a case of an avoidable hit and it's not the definition of avalidable. Malkin has no responivilty to avoid a player that is coming at him.
This was a very bad call but at the moment with the speed of the game I get it. There should however be no fine and or suspension as malkin really did not do anything except absorb a half ass awkward hit from a player who was leading with his face.

Pretty easy to detect that Malkin targeted Oshie’s head. He should get suspended for at least 5 games. Intention to injure other players can’t be tolerated by the NHL, regardless of the team they play for.

Yes Malkin did not avoid the contact, but he also should not have to Oshie comes at him not the other way around yes Malkin moves as contact is made but only to brace himself not to deliver a head shot. But lets go with wanting him to avoid the contact because for whatever reason this was "avoidable"
Option A Malkin Dives forward Oshie crashes into Crosby is this really what we want players to do?
Option B Malkin simply Ducks this one is harder to just but likely causes both him and Oshie to smash into Crosby as Crosby skates up behind them which could lead to all 3 being injured hardly an option I'd say.
Option C well I don't see any other options that avoid the contact, he is going to fast to stop he can't really move his body much or else he puts himself at risk of injury is that what you are really expecting him to do?

Could have given 2 for diving to Oshie to stop that kind of stuff. Same for Holtby’s five in the 1st period. Terrible game by the refs.

Malkin didn’t avoid the contact and caught oshie in the head, he also changed he direction slightly to cause the contact. The five minute major, game misconduct and possibly a fine should be sufficient

Oshie ran into him with his face, where was Oshie going anyway.Malkin was bracing himself
