St Gertrude is the patroness of cats. Anchoresses (mediaeval female hermits attached to a cell built onto a church) were allowed to have a cat.
Bl. Julian of Norwich had a cat.
Pope Benedict XVI had cats, but wasn't allowed to bring them to the Vatican for fear of furniture damage. (Probably a great source of suffering for him.)
