Should NFL contracts be fully guaranteed?

It’s an interesting discussion, for sure. The NFL cap is currently set up to guarantee “team salary”. With no guarantees for most of the bottom half of a roster, that allows teams to shuffle their lineups quite regularly and give many more players their opportunity. If players were also guaranteed money, how would that work against a team’s cap? A minimum 1-year deal is roughly $500,000. If it’s fully guaranteed, the cap space will get chewed up pretty quickly. those practice squad call ups will suffer....those free agents in waiting will receive less calls...the guys on the team that aren’t living up to their potential (happens all the time) will ultimately stay on their roster instead of that “next man up” getting his shot. I’m not sure there is a happy medium here.

The reason I don't think they should is because it means they have to play better to EARN the money. If it was guaranteed, then they might not play to the best of their abilities because they know they're getting the money anyway. If they want guaranteed money, let them (the players and their agents) ask for it themselves. They shouldn't make a dumb rule for it.
