Glad to see so many people did not want Dr. Melendez (Nick G.) to be killed off. He was an essential part of the show for me and many others. I agree that there doesn't seem to be any point for his departure. Bring him back as his long lost twin (who being an identical twin had studied medicine and had similar traits)

I watch tv to escape reality I love this show but I wish I didn’t watch the season 3 finale. This is the end of the good doctor for me. You don’t kill off an essential member just for fun and there was no point.

I agree with everyone else’s comments, the show will not be the same without Melendez. Leah does not deserve Shaun, first season yes I wanted them together but by the end of season 3 I realised she did not deserve him, so them getting together was just annoying to me. He was better off with Carly. I love the Dr Parks character hope he stays around, and I hope they find a way to bring Melendez back. Makes me less excited for season 4 now with everything going on, all these changes. Such a shame.

I agree with everyone. The finale left his death a bit open. It led you to think he was dead but he could have been asleep. Because of the relationship with Carly my kids couldn't watch anymore but when I told them that Melendez dies they were SHOCKED! Please bring him back. Too early for him to leave! Great finale though. Can't wait to see what transpires!

Why, oh why would you kill off Dr Melendez???? We need good, upstanding, like-able characters like Melendez. I’m with everyone else — please don’t do this! Please bring him back. I kept thinking Shaun would come in and think of some miraculous thing they could do that no one had thought of. This episode had too much unnecessary sadness in it. The other medical shows have too many contentious characters in them. You end up irritated. This show was always an upper. I have no idea how you are going to start all over. I was sobbing the whole time while watching the finale. I am still so mad about them killing off Melendez, I really wanted him and Claire together, when you think about it, what is Claire gonna do? First, her boyfriend leaves her, then her mom dies, then she finally realizes who she loves, and he dies!!!!! I have no idea what the producers were thinking.

I cried through the season finale, now I'm angry. I have no idea what the producers were thinking when they killed off Melendez. I've read his interviews, he didn't want to leave the show. This wasn't his idea. The relationship developing between him and Claire was the only genuine, natural relationship on the show ... a relationship that the show desperately needed. None of the other characters provide any warmth or sincerity All that's left are a bunch of competitive self-absorbed doctors and self-absorbed Leah. Melendez is gone, Parks is gone, Resnick can't operate ... For whatever reason they decided to rebuild but I don't think I'll be back to watch.

I think it was horrible that they killed off Dr. Melendez. I would have loved to see where the relationship between him and Claire would go. It was totally unnecessary. I usually cant wait until the new season, but I really don't care now. I might not even watch it anymore. I think it was a really dumb move...and by reading other comments I can see I'm not alone. Maybe they could surprise us and have the machines malfunction because of the quake, and he's not really gone. That would be great, and I'd be happy to watch again. I'm not sure if I will now.

I’m so upset they killed Dr. Melendez off. I really liked the character and don’t think they needed to kill him off. It should have been Leah considering how much Shaun wanted to be with her. Not sure if I’ll watch after this. I know it’s to late to change it but they made a terrible decision.

Ahh not Dr. Malendez common take someone else! I was waiting for Claire and Neil to be together since ages!! Leah is just fine for Shaun, he was just getting to eager for her. I agree that Shaun has to be the main character but that can also happen by having Malendez in the show. I love the team that there is, you can add more doctors or maybe take Dr Lim or Morgan away for a while.

The more I’m thinking about this finale, the more upset I’m becoming. I realize that these episodes were filmed ahead of time and probably way before anyone knew what was going on with this virus, but there are other points to be considered here. First and the most obvious is the absurd decision to get rid of Dr.Melendez!! That story line was far from over and honestly, I think they were afraid that his character was over shadowing Shaun!! He and Dr.Park balanced out the show. Bring him back and keep Park!!! Park’s performance with that young boy was outstanding!! I cried for more than half of the show and was in total disbelief and shock at the end and not in a good way!!
In the beginning I really wanted Shaun and Leah, but she is too flaky to deal with him. Carly was b*tchy and arrogant at times, but she knew how to deal with Shaun. Leah will break his heart again and again. The fact that Morgan may not be able to operate is interesting, but too many drastic and stupid changes at once will bury this show next season. Writers: you have time to listen to your fans. Make this right and don’t end up in the unemployment line!!!!!!

I am disappointed in the death of Dr. Melendez. He was a very key person in the show. I wanted to see more of him and Claire together, maybe them not acting on their feelings for each other but knowing the other one loved them. I’m not fond of Dr Park leaving either. Find a way to get his son closer to him for a college, job or something. The finale was a tear jerker in so many ways but please not so many BIG changes at one time.

I'm so disgusted with these shows that randomly kill off characters for ratings! Yes, people come and go in our lives, but the way characters on TV shows that I watch are killed off only to increase ratings is unconscionable. Melendez, in particular for me, started off as a character I didn't really like, but then he became more "filled out", interesting to watch. As he states in the interview above, there was so much more that could be done with this character. Shame on TPTB for being so self-serving!

Melendez was my favorite character. He brought balance to the rest of the cast. This was a horrible decision by the creator of the show. KEEP THE CAST THE WAY IT IS! The shows is good enough without these ridiculous twists. Parks is another great character. Each member of the cast brings something special to the show. I don't know how you can do it - but Melendez has to be on the show - and not just in clips. Even something as dumb as a dream sequence. There is too much sadness right now. You just added to it.

Too may changes and as much as I love Shaun, his character cannot keep the show afloat without some of the background stories. Wow, so sorry to see Melendez killed off, he was a great character. I'm also surprised to see that there maybe so many character changes for next season. Dr. Park could leave, Dr. Morgan can no longer operate, Melendez dead. The team dynamic will certainly be different with new people hope it doesn't screw up the show with so many changes at once.

I have to agree with the majority of the comments. Melendez should not have been written off. Other than the character of Shawn and addressing autism, Melendez and Claire had a storyline that was dynamic and wonderful to watch develop between them. The storylines with Shawn were both serious and funny which brought me back every week to watch. The Claire and Melendez relationship kept me longing to see them together. The unhappy ending between those characters would leave me disappointed and not care enough to watch anymore. There's enough heartache in the real world as it is. Programming is an escape from that. I want to watch drama with happy endings. This was a disappointment even though Shawn and Lea finally get together.

I think killing off Melendez was a mistake as he was a very big part of the show and enjoyed watching his character. Way to fast taking him out for sure and agree that he needs to come back somehow as it maybe a bad dream Claire was having. Great show but taking out main characters on the show is a huge mistake. The season was really good, but so.sad how the finale ended. I was hoping it would go in a happier direction for Claire and Melendez. If Dr. Parks leaves that will be leave a big gap.

I so agree with all those disappointed with the finale (most depressing I have yet to see) and the write-off of Melendez. His character and his actor made the show - not Freddie H! Without the characters Neil and Claire, the show has nothing except for bloody story lines that are only an addition to television already the worst it has been in years. Never even close to a favorite show, I watched The Good Doctor for the Neil-Claire relationship and quality of acting presented by the two cast members. Without Melendez, I have no reason to watch and would prefer something on another channel. Boo to all involved in writing the finale script!

I am disappointed in the death of Dr. Melendez. He was a very key person in the show. I wanted to see more of him and Claire together, maybe them not acting on their feelings for each other but knowing the other one loved them. I’m not fond of Dr Park leaving either. Find a way to get his son closer to him for a college, job or something. The finale was a tear jerker in so many ways but please not so many BIG changes at one time.

I'm so disgusted with these shows that randomly kill off characters for ratings! Yes, people come and go in our lives, but the way characters on TV shows that I watch are killed off only to increase ratings is unconscionable. Melendez, in particular for me, started off as a character I didn't really like, but then he became more "filled out", interesting to watch. As he states in the interview above, there was so much more that could be done with this character. Shame on TPTB for being so self-serving!

I'm still crying; so upset........wrong ending. The writers were wrong about this one. I can't believe he wont be back. You'd better have second thoughts; you'll be losing big in the ratings. It was the ONLY regular show we watched together but you put TOO much sadness in this one.

With Nicholas Gonzolez’s death, they ruined the show which they will find out next season. A surprise “miracle” to bring him back should be in the works before next season or I know it will be death for the WHOLE show.

I have been watching the Good Doctor since it aired, killing off Neil had me in tears watching, why couldn't the let Leah go of Neil. So upsetting especially with everything going on in the world today. I need Dr Neil back on the episode, who will replace him? Not happy with the writers right now. smh

Melendez was my favorite character. He brought balance to the rest of the cast. This was a horrible decision by the creator of the show. KEEP THE CAST THE WAY IT IS! The shows is good enough without these ridiculous twists. Parks is another great character. Each member of the cast brings something special to the show. I don't know how you can do it - but Melendez has to be on the show - and not just in clips. Even something as dumb as a dream sequence. There is too much sadness right now. You just added to it.

Too may changes and as much as I love Shaun, his character cannot keep the show afloat without some of the background stories. Wow, so sorry to see Melendez killed off, he was a great character. I'm also surprised to see that there maybe so many character changes for next season. Dr. Park could leave, Dr. Morgan can no longer operate, Melendez dead. The team dynamic will certainly be different with new people hope it doesn't screw up the show with so many changes at once.

I have to agree with the majority of the comments. Melendez should not have been written off. Other than the character of Shawn and addressing autism, Melendez and Claire had a storyline that was dynamic and wonderful to watch develop between them. The storylines with Shawn were both serious and funny which brought me back every week to watch. The Claire and Melendez relationship kept me longing to see them together. The unhappy ending between those characters would leave me disappointed and not care enough to watch anymore. There's enough heartache in the real world as it is. Programming is an escape from that. I want to watch drama with happy endings. This was a disappointment even though Shawn and Lea finally get together.

The season was really good, but so.sad how the finale ended. I was hoping it would go in a happier direction for Claire and Melendez. If Dr. Parks leaves that will be leave a big gap.

I so agree with all those disappointed with the finale (most depressing I have yet to see) and the write-off of Melendez. His character and his actor made the show - not Freddie H! Without the characters Neil and Claire, the show has nothing except for bloody story lines that are only an addition to television already the worst it has been in years. Never even close to a favorite show, I watched The Good Doctor for the Neil-Claire relationship and quality of acting presented by the two cast members. Without Melendez, I have no reason to watch and would prefer something on another channel. Boo to all involved in writing the finale script!
