As I continue to reiterate, "not MINES". Try that shit with your own kids & lemme know how it went, though!

There is no way to safely open these schools without vaccinating the teachers and other school workers. It’s crazy that some of these governors don’t simply do the right thing and vaccinate essential workers- that solves their economic woes and helps essential workers feel little more safer about working in a pandemic.

hell no they not they cant open schools safely! have these people ever met any kids? they are awful little humans. they gone be coughing on each other purposefully, switching masks, stealing and hiding each other masks, having tiktok virus challenges. And I know that kids dont show symptoms as much as adults but the shit mutates. all it takes is for one of these little germy summabitches to catch a variant that does affect kids and end up wiping out a whole school.

My moms a teacher in VA in northern virginia, and its been interesting hearing the way her county has been handling it. VA had originally placed teachers as 1B priority so she was able to get vaccinated in the beginning of January, but after VA found out that the "reserves" of vaccines the Trump admins had touted as available would be released was a lie, they got kicked out of the vaccine priority list. Now its become a thing where the schools are trying to push students and teachers to go back to In person learning, but not teacher who wanted to get vaccinated could, and there were a good amount of the teachers who could have gotten vaccinated who refused to. The county seems to be going about it in a weird way, where even if teachers don't have students doing in person learning, they will require the teachers to come into work to teach. Im assuming they want to reduce the "why can so and so be remote and i cant" kind of thing.

Since my mother is a Special Education teacher working with children with severe mental handicaps, its been really had for her to do virtual learning. She spends most of her days trying to teach these High schoolers life skills (IE counting money, cooking) so that they can hopefully be independent someday, so you can imagine how hard it can be to try to work with those students remotely through a computer when they normally need a lot of hands on guidance. For that kind of teaching to work it requires someone with them to work through things via computer and a lot of the parents just put their kid on to the computer and walk away. More and more of those kids have been not logging on as much lately as well and I think its been hard for both them and my mom. She loves what she does but I think lately shes been depressed because I dont think shes enjoying not being able to interact the way she should be able to with her students as well as kids not showing up to class at all. Its a hard thing because those kids will tend to be the most vulnerable kids when they go back into school but also the most likely to go back to school first, because in terms of whos the most likely to fall behind without in person learning, they probably are #1 on that list. Anyways I agree that we don't have enough data. I just hope in a few months my mom isn't having to go to funerals for her kids/ kids parents/ or coworkers because of this decision to go full steam ahead with in person learning. Sorry for the long ass post thanks yall!

I think Karen has a great point about the filibuster. Republicans don't care, but they move in a way that provides a smoke screen for their actions. Democrats removed the portion of the filibuster that made Amy Coney Barrett possible. They don't want to get their hands dirty ever.

I used to work at a Kumon learning center before the pandemic and those kids were nasty as hell. I was getting sick every other week cause they would sneeze and cough right in my face and give me this blank look like they didn't just do that shit. I gave them slack cause they were all really young but in this panoramic I can only imagine what they're like at school. Keep them little viral vectors at home!
