Eagle Scout survey on religion

When I earned my Eagle thru the local Methodist church that sponsored our Troop, I was following being reverent. I went to Scout Sunday and continued that "religious" mode until age 35. Asking God to deliver me from alcoholism,
after He did, I became a legalist for a year. God used a ministry called Walk To Emmaus to reveal the Truth of Jesus Christ. In Christ, it is DONE! Being an Eagle or Billy Graham's son does not make u a Christian, its His work on the Cross that sets me free from "doing" religion. Thanks for asking! I do believe God has blessed the BSA by its willingness to say character matters!

I don't think that Scouting is a religious organization, and I think that the mention of 'GOD" is simply a recognition that the intelligent design behind the universe deserves some honor, and as this Country and many other countries used to recognize 'God' as that creator, Scouts recognized it. Too much is made of this, much as the issue of 'in god we trust' gets brought up by the press & ACLU occaisonally.

I'd say, though, that I am an Eagle Scout because of my religious affiliation, not the other way around.
